  1. Maybe not quite conflicting. That dinner as after the 1998 season but the story also states: Just one day earlier, after the Associated Press reported that a bottle of androstenedione had been found in McGwire's locker, Bonds scoffed. He was well aware McGwire had ingested more than vegetables and vitamin C tablets to become the size of The Thing. "I use that stuff too," Bonds told teammates. "The difference is Mac's doing stuff I wouldn't think of." So he's alledgedly saying he used Andro (and knew it) at that point, but maybe he just didn't start the heavier stuff until later. Or he'd started it already and just decided to run his mouth at that point. : :shrugs :: The point is, this one is all hear-say as near as I can tell.
  2. "You know what," he said. "I had a helluva season last year, and nobody gave a crap. Nobody. As much as I've complained about McGwire and Canseco and all of the bull with steroids, I'm tired of fighting it. I turn 35 this year. I've got three or four good seasons left, and I wanna get paid. I'm just gonna start using some hard-core stuff, and hopefully it won't hurt my body. Then I'll get out of the game and be done with it." For Bonds, great wasn't good enough Yep, according to writer Jeff Pearlman, Barry told Ken Griffey Jr. and several other unnamed dinner companions that he was joining the baseball arms race and was willing to stick needles in his rear end to do it. Pearlman, who was not at the alleged dinner as far as we know, quoted Barry's message to Griffey and Co. verbatim. Can't blame Barry for jealousy I think in fact Pearlman was quoting what Griffey told him Bonds said, but that's not the way it's written.
  3. He's a big kid -- and quite friendly. Nice arm motion on the mound. I'm interesting in watching him in a game situation -- but I guess I'll have all summer to do that. I want to get a shot of him standing next to fellow prospect Deacon Burns, who at 5'8" is I think the shortest guy in camp. And I think Deacon is only 5'8" when he's standing on something...
  4. If the book is incorrect, or inaccurate, wouldn't Bonds and his agent being filing a libel suit right now? But the quotes I've seen from both makes it seem like they're both ignoring it and hoping it will go away. Makes one wonder.
  5. We have gone into 9 shootouts and lost 8 of them, this is according to Dave Strader. No. What Strader said is the Panthers have not scoring in their last 9 SHOTS (3 shoot outs x 3 shots = 9 shots) including the shoot out the Cats droped to the Canes in pre-season. Some people learn to need to read. :whistle
  6. So, why does this joke of a team has its own publicly funded arena and the Marlins don't? Because Broward had the money to build an arena and Miami-Dade does not. Seriously, there have been attempts to put a Marlins stadium into Broward but they are still paying off the debt on the Sunrise Arena, so they don't have the money to build a ballpark. Otherwise it wouldn't have been an issue. Broward would have built it, no problem. I seem to recall when the Panthers franchise was granted, the needed a waiver from the NHL to play in the Miami Arena because it was not up to NHL standards. I believe the seating was below NHL minimum. In any case, they were awarded the franchise and given five years to construct a new arena. Additionally, when the construction on the Sunrise Arena started, it was SUPPOSED to be the anchor for a project that was generally refered to as "Wayne's World" a sports themed related mall with the Arena on one end and a baseball stadium on the other. After the Marlins went to the World Series the first time, Huizenga was unhappy with the season ticket sales for the following season and decide to sell the team. As a result, the sports theme mall project was also scraped, along with plans for a Marlins stadium. There's no guarantee that any of this would have gotten done even if season ticket sales had been up to Huizenga's expectations, the guy seems to come up with bright ideas and then drop them like hot potatoes. Remember when he sold stock in the Panthers? In short, all of the Marlins' current problems can be traced back to one guy -- Huizenga.
  7. Nah, I think we should be calling them the Florida Possums instead. After all, they play dead at home and get killed on the road. OMG! That is so funny. And so true! I was going to say it looked like the AHL vs. the NHL out there, but that would be insulting to the Panther's AHL affiliate.
  8. We also got Scott Tyler from the Twins for Castillo, but I don't know how good he is. Scott T. had an outstanding season in Low A which earned him a spot on the Twins 40-man roster. He wasn't bad at High A Fort Myers, but the wasn't really outstanding overall either. He had some very good games, but the consistancy was lacking. Some of the guys questioned how he got on the 40-man in the first place, but...as I said, he was coming off an outstanding season in Low A. On the whole I'd say he earned a promotion to AA. He'll got into the system and maybe turn into something for you guys. He can start or he can pitch middle relief. Big kid though, might actually be able to swing a stick if he needs to.
