post game 8/13/08
I'm begging for Willingham to be benched, and I can tell you the last guy I want replacing him is Lo Duca. Thats just insane. You should be ashamed of yourself for suggesting that. The only options for Willingham are Gonzo temporarily or if Maybin gets called up, moving Ross over. Thats it.

Is Josh Willingham done for the season?
BS and you know it, I was calling for his benching before the game started. I'm just rubbing it in now. This is a classic case of "I told you so".

Bump, Josh tearing it up again tonight. Its a good thing Fredi left him in there instead of going with Hermida, really riding the hot hand. Because Hermida was the hot hand? This is a classic case of playing the result. BS and you know it, I was calling for his benching before the game started. I'm just rubbing it in now. This is a classic case of "I told you so".

8/13 Cardinals vs. Marlins
Jaques Jones now goes within that group as horrible marlins How can he count, he was only with us for a week.

Possibly the most frustrating pitcher in Marlins history was Pat Rapp. Every year he was going to be the ace, but usually sucked. Yeah but I wasn't a fan til '96, so I missed his first few failures as "ace". I only knew him as a crappy pitcher. Nate Bump was the man. Great long reliever.

haha, remember Brian Meadows? Brian Meadows was Mark Redman of 2003, except on a crappy team. I liked him.

Also a guy who I could never decide if I loved or hated: Jesus Sanchez. I swear, 1 start I thought he could be one of the future aces of our staff, the next I wanted him off the team.

I vote everybody on the 1998 team No way, there were some keepers there. Alex Gonzalez, Luis Castillo, Ryan Dempster... And, the legendary DAVE BERG!

Julian Tavarez deserves a spot on the all-time crappy Marlins list. So does Todd Dunwoody (even though he never got to play in the bigs much).

This is my top 3 least favorite marlins of all time 1. Dan Milici 2. Brandon Looper 3. Jorge Julio Wow...a little tough on Looper, man. First of all, Julio is an automatic #1. :lol Looper wasn't even the guy I hated most when he struggled in the bullpen...it was usually Vladimir Nunez moreso than Looper for me. I used to HATE Vladimir Nunez. Him and his stupid sidearm delivery. Looper I think gets the extra hate because he was forced to close when he wasn't ready for it. Also think about who he was replacing, the Iceman (one of my all-time favorites) and Alfonseca (shaky but a fan favorite).

Josh is just slumping. More looking at strike 3. (Although I think that was a ball) I still say he's hurt. Looking at strike 3 is a sign of slow batspeed, and thats something I've definitely noticed with him. Its part of why he's not hitting any doubles or homers lately. He's normally as good a pull hitter as Cantu when he's on.

Looper brings back some not so fond memories Its really weird to see him as a starter now, and a successful one too. My memories of him are as a failed closer who basically lost his job to Urbina in 2003. He was great as a setup guy though. How many pitches does he have now? I remember he had the same problem as Lindstrom, couldn't throw anything effectively but his fastball.

Btw I'm only arguing this so vehemently because I can't watch the game tonight, don't get Sun up in Tallahassee, only FSN...

8/13 Cardinals vs. Marlins
All I'm going to say is, I have watched the past 3 games, all of them. Josh looks bad at the plate, he is late on fastballs, and he is normally a good fastball hitter. Jeremy is slightly colder, but in the long run Josh has been bad for a long time now, and is not being benched nearly enough. If it only takes 3 bad games for Jeremy to get a night off, then what the hell does Josh have to do, because he's had the lion's share of sh*tty games this half. This should be the end of the argument. Josh hasn't been great, I'll agree. But he's been better than Jeremy. Its the end of the argument if you manage your baseball team based on 3 game stretches, and bench a guy every time he has 3 bad games. Whatever. 6 games without hits vs 5 games with hits this month. Three bad games? Not so much. So you changed your criteria to the month. In that case Josh is hitting .206/.263/.324.

But if we base it on a month, neither has Josh (or 2 months for that matter). And he is slower and the worse fielder.

The way Hermida has been playing lately he NEEDS a day off. Yeah, 2 bad games. Horrendus. Never been done before. Meanwhile, everyone is loving Gonzo b/c he had 2 good ones in NY. When a player struggles they usually give them a day off... and don't give me that 2 bad games crap the guy is hitting in the 250s for the year, hardly an important part of the lineup. Hermida's .834 .OPS in the 2nd half is better than "Hammer's." Alright let's get statistical... Hermida in July .232 .311 .516 .827 In August .231 .311 .231 .542 Willingham In July .229 .385 .325 .710 In August .216 .268 .324 .593 Conclusion they have both been sucking it UP! I agree, tiebreaker? Hermida is faster, a better fielder, and is healthy.

3 games? When did 3 games become better than an entire of half of baseball? How many AB's does he have in those 3 wonderful games? 10? Take ONE hit off, and he's hitting .200. He's not really making a difference, offensively, right now...and he's the one with the bad back. Gonzo's REAL position is LF. Makes sense to sit Hammer out, imo. But the point is that this .300 shows that Hammer could finally be coming out of his funk while Hermida has been struggling in the last few games. Bah, why am I even arguing this, I was against this move! Its the stats, you're giving into them. Trust your eyes Rabb, you know them to be true! Don't give into the statside!

Hitting .300 over the last 3 games. That's not suckage. If you go 3 for 10 in 3 games, you hit .300. 1 of those can be a weak infield single. If you don't get that weak infield single, you're hitting .200. :banghead Enough with the stats...

Ugh...I hate this. Hermida gets the night off, yet the guy who should be sitting is Willingham. Worst RF arm ever...Gonzo. C'mon Ricky...settle down...PLEASE! :pray Hammer has a three game hit streak and Hermida is 0 for his last 8 and 2 for his last 15. Why should Hammer be sitting? Are you watching the games? This is one of those cases where the way they're playing is more important than a tiny statistical sample. In the middle of a playoff run, you go with who's hotter, especially when you're struggling at the plate. At the moment, Hammer is hotter than Hermida. Willingham is not hot. He's the opposite of hot... he's just sucked slightly less than Hermida over a 3-game stretch, while he has consistently sucked for 2 months now overall. I don't have the stats on hand, but I wouldn't be surprised if he has 3 total hits in this hit streak, they're all singles, and they were all unimpressive.
