  1. QUOTE (Rabbethan @ Aug 20 2008, 11:20 PM) * sh*t, Hanley out of the game. damn it that sux big balls Much as I like Hanley, he is a PRIMA DONNA BABY of the highest order. He reminds me of those basketball players who are always writhing on the floor in pain, lol.
  2. Pitcher's BEST FRIEND!
  3. I swear, walks are Olsen's KILLER. Every pitcher's killer.
  4. Now let's see if Olsen can keep the lead. At least it's just a SMALL lead. He pitches better with either a small lead than a big lead where he often loses focus. Go SCOTTY.
  5. Yeah, but not a LOUD RBI like this one. There's rbi's and RBI's!
  6. Well LOOKEE HERE! Maybe getting dropped down to the #8 spot WOKE THIS KID UP! Way to go, HERMIDA!
  7. This kid is pretty nasty; Cody can't get around on his fastball so far, every fastball is fouled down the 1st base line.
  8. I think Jacobs is like 0-24. But he did walk yesterday. I would have rather seen LoDuca at 1st base for Jacobs and Baker catching. Jacobs, Hermida, Willingham, all three are killing us these days.
  9. When was the last time Hermida had a productive game? He's hitting .182 in August. Jacobs is like 0-22 or 23 Willingham...well you see for yourself. What's up, Magnus?
  10. Looks like some of ya'll agree with me. Look, baseball is the most stat oriented game there is, and that is one of the great things about it. Lots of these STATS weren't even in existence when I first started watching baseball, but they are certainly good tools in grading a ballplayer, sand I DO NOT dismiss them. But you can also end up getting LOST in the STATS to the point that you start believing NONSENSE! Some guys go overboard with stats, and I don't think that's good at all. A few years back I was having a conversation with this guy who is a real stat freak, and the dude was making this GREAT CASE based on statistics on why Christian Guzman was a better shortstop than Derek Jeter. And he made a wonderful case, and he sure had all his t's crossed and his i's dotted, but THERE IS NO WAY IN HELL I'M TAKING CHRISTIAN GUZMAN OVER DEREK JETER, LOL! Well, defensively, Jeter is a terrible shortstop. And these days, I would take Guzman over Jeter as well. As is your right. However this was about five years ago. And even now the guy still plays hard, has great instincts, and is "baseball smart". Therefore even these days there are certain teams that I would still want Jeter on if I was a GM. A team full of young guys in need of veteran leadership, a team in need of someone to teach kids HOW TO BE A WINNER and how to be a PROFESSIONAL, I'm still taking Jeter even with diminished skills. But that's just my opinion and I only posted it as an example of why I don't get OVERLY immersed in stats. Anyway, if any of you feel differently, great. I'm not going to try to convert you to MY WAY OF THINKING or tell you guys how to post, or how to say things. I'm not looking to APPROVE of your posts or opinions. And I don't care if you approve of mine.

  12. I would have probably preferred LoDuca at 1st base for the slumping Jacobs and also because Baker is HOT and fired up playing in front of his home town. So I like LoDuca in the lineup batting second, but not catching.
  13. Just one question....how do you feel about stats? More specifically, things like OPB, SLG, and WHIP? Stats are useful, there is NO QUESTION about that. But I DO NOT judge a ballplayer solely on stats. Look, some of you guys might feel differently, and that's cool. But I've been watching this game long enough that I put a high premium on intangibles, such as baseball smarts, instincts, heart, and desire. In addition to a guy's stats, HOW DOES HE PLAY THE GAME? Is he "baseball smart"? Does he hustle? Is he THINKING out there in the field, on the mound, or at bat, or is he just reacting? Is the guy a WINNER? Some of these intangibles cannot be measured by statistics. Guys either HAVE "IT", or they DON'T.
  14. Good to have you here :thumbup Finally someone else who saw Gibson pitch. There really is no way to explain how different the game is today especially the buddy-buddy relationships you see on the field between players on opposing teams. Can you imagine Bob Gibson saying anything remotely friendly to an opposing player...on or off the field? I just laugh out loud thinking about how players from the fifties, sixties would look at today's game. Gibson wasn't even friendly to his own catcher, McCarver, never mind the other team! Guys like him, Drysdale, Marichal; they took this game SERIOUSLY. I'll never forget Gibson in the World Series against Boston & against Detroit. The Cards basically won those because they gave Gibson the ball for THREE out of SEVEN World Series games, and he was damn near unhittable!
  15. I enjoy being young and doing stuff, but I already have arthritis in my knee(s), it's not comparable really, but I'm just looking forward to being able to reflect on a lot of cool stuff and tell people about things they never got the chance to see Edit: Also, a 50 year old called me dude, this guy has the potential to be quite awesome LOL...yeah, I don't believe in ACTING my age, even though I might FEEL like I'm 50 don't mean I gottta act like an old man. If any of you guys met me you wouldn't think I was 50 either; I take care of myself for the most part, still get a lil' work out in, etc. To everyone that has welcomed me, THANKS, FELLAS! I'm gonna try not to be too much of a STUNAD over here, lol....
  16. Not a big fan of the pickup because I thought it might cost Baker some playing time which would be NUTZ; trust me when I tell you guys that this Baker kid is gonna work out very nicely for us, you can't teach that kind of sweet lefty swing! But on the other hand, I could see LoDuca possibly getting some run at 1st base or the OF against lefties and in the #2 spot which has basically been a black hole for us this year. Hermida is NOT a #2 hitter (I think Baker has the potential to be a #2, but I don't think Fredi makes such a BOLD MOVE) and LoDuca does at least make contact and has the ability to move the runners and make "productive outs" (sac flies, RBI groundouts, etc.), something we have been terrible at. So while I'm not a fan of the move, I can see why it was made.
  17. That is one of the most awesome things ever... I can't wait till I'm 50 and I can brag to people about watching Maddux, Glavine, Smoltz, A-Rod, Hanley and such... You sound like a great guy, welcome aboard LOL....dude, don't even JOKE like that, lol....when you're over 50 everything hurts when you wake up in the morning! And like it or not, you SLOW DOWN. Like I said, I usedto play baseball and softball too, but just don't anymore, cause I can't play the way I used to. Yeah, I could go join a "senior league" or something, but it ain't the same. I still go to the batting cage every once in a while though...but find it hard to even get around on the 80 mph machine! So enjoy being YOUNG, my brother!....lol...
  18. Hey guys, I just joined up over here, figured I'd say whats up. My name is Alex, I live in Hollywood, 52 years old, played a lot of baseball as a kid and as an adult in various leagues, until I just got too old, lol. Been a baseball fan my entire life; I remember the 1962 Mets, the Yankees of the 60s, and all the great players of that time: I grew up watching Whitey Ford, Mickey Mantle, Bob Gibson, Roberto Clemente, Sandy Koufax. Went to plenty of games where I got to see them play in person. I learned to love this game and I learned to LEARN this game. Moved to Florida in 2000, but only became a Marlins fan during the 03 season when that team got my attention during the summer; I predicted their eventual success to all my buddies back home by early August. I told everybody that this seemed to be one of those rare "teams of destiny" that come up every once in a while, and I was proven correct when they got to the WS versus my New York Yankees. I had to make a choice, and it was a no brainer, I chose the young and exciting Marlins and have been a huge Marlins fan ever since. As for other things about me, I'm a fan of all sports except hockey, and I enjoy smoking fine cigars. I'm passionate and opinionated about my teams and I respect everybody that gives respect. Looking forward to contributing over here.
