I can't believe some people are actually defending the guy tonight. If his name was Jeremy Hermida, there would have been multiple threads on it, already. Not even Hermida did such a thing here. It's pathetic, and quite frankly, I'd much rather see the guys who want to play even if the one who doesn't want to play is the only superstar on the team. Nice to see a change of heart Erik. If I remember correctly...I expressed a concern for Hanley's overall apathetic play just a few nights ago and you were quick to dismiss these now seemingly correct observations.

Also, the Uggla incident was completely different. That was perceived as a case of Hanley having an extremely prolonged slump and sitting out to preserve his batting title all while the Marlins' play-off chances were in doubt. None of those factors were at play here. It was a completely different scenario. This might have been a lose-lose situation from the perspective of spectators, but not in the context of actually playing the game. Not to mention the fact that his visible pain earlier in the game from the shin injury would make it difficult to brand Hanley as faking it. Hanley has been dogging it down the 1st base line quite a bit lately. At the games I haven't been the only one noticing it. Wasn't hurt then. And he has a rep for doing it. Two years ago he took himself out of the last game of the season, an inportant game to us BTW, to ensure he kept that average above .300. Last year's crap was well documented. Barden has a slightly sprained ankle. Cody took a 90-something fastball off his knee. See them dogging it? Don't try to make excuses for him. Sit the prima donna again Tuesday. Or let Uggla take him aside and explain things to him. I've noticed Hanley's lack of effort this year as well. In fact, I brought up the fact that he wasn't running out ground balls, giving up on at bat's, etc....on this forum a couple of days ago and got a lot of heat for it. I'm a big Hanley fan, but he looks sort of apathetic in some games.

Hanley K's once and now he doesn't wanna be a Marlin anymore. You guys aren't overreacting or anything. The guy is still producing like one of the best SS's in the game. He got off to a slow start in April, and is back to his amazing-self in May with a 1.092 .OPS, entering today's game. Today he gets 2 solid hits, and was robbed of a 3rd in the 1st inning. Lets ignore this, though. He failed once in a sport where a good hitter fails 6-7 times out of 10. Not to mention he didn't K against some bum; he K'd against Marmol who is known for that, and now has 33 K's in 16 innings (that's over 2 K's per inning, for those counting). But yeah, he just doesn't wanna be here anymore... Don't be ridiculous, all I'm saying is he doesn't look like he's giving it his all, and that says something to his talent considering he's still leading most SS in several offensive categories.

Fredi is garbage. I could probably coach this team better. I hate to say it, Hanley does not look good this year at all. He's not stealing bases, not running out ground balls, having crappy at bats, and, honestly, kind of has a smug aire to him him. I love Hanley, but he just look different this year.
