  3. -Alan Schwartz This spring, Major League Baseball's Internet portal, mlb.com, will install in select parks a three-camera set-up to measure pitch speeds, locations and breaks-to automate the collection of pitch data that until now has been generally eyeballed. This is only the first step though, in mlb.com's three year plan to have up to six cameras in every major league stadium capturing EVERYTHING-from line-drive trajectories to outfielder running speeds. I personally think thats pretty kool
  4. i vote for 8 Mile Expos..Eminem can be theyre bat boy..im sure that'll raise the fan base in detroit
  5. hey..i think he can handle this job..i mean he did do pretty good at CBS for gettin the most of his picks right in the 2003 NFL season ..lol..he obviously knows how to get the ball into the endzone..lets see wut he does
  6. just goin back..remember in 2001 (i think it was) where the marlins Charles Johnson got injured for a period of time..they had to switch remond and castro at the Cather position..they would hit at the *th spot in the lineup, not very impressive if u ask me..and thats before the team was in contendership..i guess wut im trynna say is..id rather have kendall who is a proven Catcher at half price..then trade him next year in the offseason, and keep our bullpen which isnt as bad as sum may put it..i mean we did win a championship with that same bullpen..and we added a few relievers..than to have to switch between redman and castro at the 7 or 8 spot..kendall would be put at the 3rd spot where pudge was at..conclusion equals kendall over redman/castro combination any day
  7. -By John Sickels Mark M. From Chula Vista, California, asks: I see the Athletics traded left-handed pitcher Bill Murphy to the Marlins to complete the Mark Redman deal. As an Oakland fan, should I be concerned about this? How good is Murphy? I saw Murphy pitch for Double-A Midland in July, and I was quite impressed with him. He was picked in the third round in 2002, out of Cal State Northridge. His fastball is good for a lefty, reportedly hitting 93 mph at times, though he was working at 89-90 in the game I saw. It looks faster than that, however, because he mixes it well with his curveball and changeup. He also has a deceptive delivery. I thought his delivery looked a bit stiff in the contest I witnessed, but so far it looks like he's going to be fairly durable. He pitched 147 innings combined between Class A Kane County and Midland without trouble. Murphy posted a 3-3 record and 4.09 ERA in 11 starts at Midland, with a 34/26 K/BB ratio. I think he can do better than that, but he will have to improve his command from "good" to "excellent" to get the most out of his ability, since he doesn't usually blow the ball by people. For me, he projects as a No. 3 or 4 starter, probably ready in 2005. I don't think he'll have a spectacular career, but I can see him as a solid contributor. He could end up being quite similar to Redman himself down the road. Their arsenals and styles are somewhat similar.
