Yeah that’s probably it. I mean of course Derek Jeter has been MLB’s golden boy for the past 25+ years. So I’m sure they liked having him there from like like a marketing standpoint I mean the Marlins sale had to get approval from at least 75% of all other owners. So if the other owners don’t like a new ownership group that can stop a sale from happening. And I’ve read some people online saying that Sherman and Rob Manfred are best buddies. Although I’m not sure if that would have made a difference. But at the end of the day.. Loria was just looking to squeeze every last penny he could on the sale of the Marlins. From what I understand he wanted 1.3 billion and the Sherman/Jeter group offered 1.2 billion. Apparently the Jorge Mas group offered around 1.1 billion. And for Loria he was just going to take the highest offer. Even though it was probably overpriced. But hey he got as much money as he could. I also read that after the sale to Sherman and Jeter, Mas tried to join in as an investor but with the condition of having control of the team and he was rejected because Jeter wanted to have control. 😂 Of course none of this matters. Jeter is gone and Sherman is the owner and I don’t think that is changing anytime soon with MLB record profits and Sherman’s goals of winning while having the lowest payroll in baseball. It’s a great deal for him. Why would he want to sell the team? 😂
