The Miami Dolphins front-office search has taken an unexpected turn.

Dolphins great Dan Marino told SportsLine.com that he has accepted a job as the team's new head of football operations. Marino told SportsLine.com that he will not be joining the team until after the Super Bowl and his broadcast duties are complete.

Marino has talked with team owner Wayne Huizenga about such a position for a while, but met with the owner again Monday to finalize the deal. It is expected that he will work with both Dave Wannstedt and Rick Spielman, who should be retained in the deal.

Marino is a sure-fire future Hall of Famer and current analyst for The NFL Today on CBS.

I had a feeling....

Wow I didnt expect this. I'm not sure I want this he has no experience in football operations. Even though he probably will work closely with Rick Spielman. I just hope they leave Dave out of drafting players.

maybe we can draft a QB now

this is to sell tickets and get the fans back into the dolphins IMO, there we're other people with experience out there who should have been picked, they all got to start somewhere I guess

posted in wrong section, sorry

I would have rather have Randy Mueller who has experience and did a pretty good job in New Orleans.

An excerpt from ESPN Insider Rumor Central

Jan. 12 - ESPNNews is reporting that the Dolphins will hire Dan Marino as their general manager Monday. Former Packers GM Ron Wolf is expected to serve as a consultant.

At least he will be getting help from a Great GM in Ron Wolf.

Unexpected but I hope he does well.

wow :o

i remember when the search started someone mentioned Marino would love the job but i didnt actually think this would happen, his name was never really mentioned. i feel like dagreatone, i dont know what to think about this because he doesnt have the experience. but damn this is exciting, i do like that wolf looks like he will be involved

Marino is the best man for this job. He was the best QB ever and can draft us a real QB or even sign one and let yardstick for a nose go.

i just heard it on fox news... dolphins will officially announce it during a press conference at 5:00pm

where teh f*** did this come from.....

yo i love DAN as do many other phin fans......

but, what the hell does he know about GM ing????? making comments on a CBS broadcast doesnt make you a genious on football talent......

POINT BLANK this desiison upsets me..... cuz i wantted Muller or Ted T Ron Wolfz boy......

but one thing does come in with teh 20th pick we are DEF getting us a QB

it looks like wolf is going to be a consultant so he wont be alone

i dont know how much personnel know-how he has and i know he isn't the brightest (his wonderlic score is awful), but i'm still a humongous fan of this just because of how much i love that man.

i think we'll be fine. there's no doubt that they're going to surround him with the best guys available.

My favorite thing is that Dan is now Dave's boss.

i just seriously hope this works out. his playing career ended on a really low note and it would be horrible to see him fail in the front office. i hope he doesnt turn out like matt millen, please God no.

they just mentioned it during a wqam update

i'd love to see dan work overtime as our quarterbacks coach... we have a vacancy there, you know

Cape how is he the best man for The Job when Wolf was a canidate?

The Dolphins didn't learn anything from Jordan in Washington and it appears that they just set themselves up for a very bad situation.

If Marino blows(Which in all likelyhood will happen), can you imagine the fallout from the man who fired Dan Marino?

ok... director of football operations is not the same as GM.

im hearing dan isnt going to be the GM, he's going to be president of football operations, im guessing spielman is the new Gm, i guess we'll find out at 5

(crosses fingers, hoping Wolf will be the secret GM)

i would dirty my pants if that happens

let me take some "stuff" so i could at least pretend it'll happen :shifty

Don't be so negative. I think this is a pretty good idea. Let's hope he does well.

DAN THE MAN IS BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!

he will do great.

publicity stunt? :shifty

Yea, I mean, so what if he is inexperienced as a GM. There's a first time for everything. Plus, we all know Dan loves the team. That's what we need. Someone who really cares about the team rather than someone else who's just there. I think he'll do a fine job. Give him a chance.
