Marino new Dolphins GM

Featured Replies

I don't like this move.

I like bringing Marino in, but not as GM.

I think the dolphins should have made Ron Wolf the GM, and gave Marino some non GM experience before easing him into the job.

Maybe i'm wrong, but I dont like hiring a GM with no experience, but we will see what happens.

Rick Spielman is the official GM and Dan is the Head Of Football Operations.

this is dicey if you ask me, but im not a Phin Phan so please dont ask me...

Oh, well I like Marino as head of football operations instead of GM.

But why did they hire Spielman as GM and not Wolf?

According to John Clayton, Dan may end up owning the team in a couple of years

Now I REALLY like that idea :thumbup

I can't judge this move.

It's kind of shocking, and I really don't see how he's qualified. But I have to assume I don't know the whole story. This is just really surprising...

Also, isn't Wanny the guy who basically sent Marino packing? If so, I wonder how that relationship's going to work out. Marino first move: fire Wannstedt? Say it's so, Danny Boy...

I wish, but after he received an extension, he's not going to be fired until after this season.

I wish, but after he received an extension, he's not going to be fired until after this season. Yeah, I don't really expect Wanny to be fired by Danny. I'd bet Danny was asked his position on Wanny before he even took the job, and I'm sure Danny said they could work together.

But, I wonder what would happen if Danny went to Wayney and said it's either me or Wanny...who would Wayney fire?

I wonder if he's going after Manning as his 1st move in the offseason.

that would be quite a move.

Aren't they familiar with each other (as in friends)

I wonder if he's going after Manning as his 1st move in the offseason.

He would but by the time we get to pick he will be long gone.

Colts quarterback Peyton Manning will finish his quest for the MVP award Sunday against Houston. A big performance could lock up the trophy but also could be Manning's final regular-season game as a Colt.

Indianapolis is in danger of the losing Manning, who is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent after this season. Most Colts fans would contend that the team can't afford to lose him. In reality, the team might not be able to afford to keep him.

To prevent Manning from hitting the free-agent market, the Colts will have to use either a nonexclusive franchise or exclusive franchise tag on him. Under the terms of the NFL's franchise tag spelled out at the league's Dec. 9 meeting in Dallas, the Colts would be obligated to pay Manning 120 percent of his $15.36 million salary-cap number from this season, a whopping $18.43 million.

Manning's salary would eat up 23 percent of next year's projected $78.1 million salary cap. The Colts, though, are expected to be only $1.2 million under next season's cap with just 40 players under contract, so they'll have to come up with a whole lot more wiggle room.

The Colts could try to use the nonexclusive franchise tag, which obligates another team to surrender two No. 1 draft picks to sign another team's top free agent. Perhaps a team or two in need of an upgrade at quarterback would be only too happy to surrender two No. 1s for a more sure thing than anyone coming out of the draft.

Whether from Indianapolis or some other team, Manning is on the verge of commanding a $30 million-$40 million signing bonus that is going to send shock waves through the league and could blow up its existing salary structure.

no, he's not

The Phins will draft Phillip Rivers at #20 (Marino clone), and bring in a big name WR.

foooooools........

"oh ya we are gonna get Manning......"

okay, yes the Colts are gonna face some cap issues but i allready heard the owner of the colts say his #1 priorty is to sign Manning and make him the highest paid football playa in the game.....

so 4get about it......

and i also agree on drafting Rivers and getting a big time WR......

sorry to break it to you, but we have cap problems of our own for next year. like we can afford an $18 million QB... lol. i'd love to have peyton, but i just don't see how it's possible. and you know the colts aren't going to just let their MVP run away after they win the super bowl.

i'm thinkin we'll decide to pick losman in the 1st round if we cant find anyone better as a FA. i'd rather stick needles in my eyes than have us sign warner or brunell.

oh, and philip rivers has very little pro potential. his arm isn't the strongest and his mechanics are terrible. i'll be shocked if we pick him in the 1st round. he's going to be a bench guy.

Alkazoid you couldn't be more wrong on Rivers.

He is in my opinion and that of many others the best QB in the draft.

Rivers would be the best choice for the Fins.

Mannining (Eli) will be taken, as will Rothlisburger.

Ryan Dinwiddie, Phillip Rivers, J.P. Losman, and Josh Harris should all be available.

And as I thought, Ron Wolf stays on board with the Green and Gold as a consultant, with what I believe is 1-2 years left on his contract with us. I highly doubt that when his contract is up, he'll get involved the NFL anymore.

And Peyton Manning, so all Fins fans know, has NO CHANCE OF GOING TO MIAMI, NONE, ZERO. He is staying in Indy, they'll cut James and Harrison if worst came to worst. Manning is the next Favre and the Colts know it.

if the colts let go of manning they're just dumb. you dont let the Co-MVP just walk away. they're gonna have to let some people go so they wont be as good next year. this is the colts' year to win it all.
