Kendall in Teal?

Featured Replies

The Jason Kendall to Chicago talks seem to have died down. We still have a good $8-9 Million left in payroll, and the Pirates have said they are willing to eat up half of his contract to get him off the books. Could he be a possibility?

Redmond/Castro works for me

So you would rather have the Castro/Redmond tandem than Jason Kendall for half the price?

May I ask why?

May I ask why? two bodies better than one...don't have the attitude problem...both are good catchers...both can be very good clutch hitters...both are inexpensive...both are currently in teal

anymore needed?

You'd think after Pudge we all would stop looking for egoistic, backstabbing catchers to add to this team for a ride.

If you played in Pittsburgh, you'd have an attitude problem too. Kendall isn't a good catcher, he's a great catcher. Kendall hit .314 with an OBP of .414 with RISP. Kendall is worth it for half the price.

Kendall would give us three leadoff type hitters...

Can you really have enough guys that hit .325 and get on-base at a .399 clip?

He doesn't bring much power, but he still has a .815 OPS.

Imagine.

Kendall .399

Choi .392*

Castillo .381

Conine .370*

Pierre .361

Lowell .360

Cabrera .360*

* 2004 projections

Let's wait until Castro's trial.

I'm going with WC on this one...Kendall would be just what we need to complete this team and scare the sh-t out of the Phillies.

He hits well in PPS

Only 8 ABs but 5 hits. .625 AVG

If Kendall could be had for 4 million dollars he would be just what we need for this team and we would be set for 2004.

Exactly.

I'm the most pro-Castro guy here, but Kendall is just a damn good hitter, and he's a prototype hitter for PPS. The guy could win a betting title playing for us.

all are good catchers

Im sorry but what attitude problem does Kendall have?

He has hissy fits when things he doesn't like happen.

i.e. Boog is interviewing him before a game against the Marlins and asks about the Giles trade and something about if he feels the team wants to win because the Pirates weren't acting motivated and he totally explodes on everyone on the team and Boog.

I don't think theyd just want Redmond or Castro. They'll likely want some decent prospects (Wayne? Aguila?)

P.S. His 2003 stats at PPS seem like a fluke. He's 8 for 30 the past three years. Still he's a good hitter whose speed and gap power are built for PPS.

On another board I post on we all have baseball-related avatars. Most Pirates fans had one featuring Brian Giles until after the July fire sale. The most popular avatar soon became a Pirates background with a gapping black hole where Giles once was with '???' above it.

You can't base the man on one interview. That's just ignorant. And the guy has the right to be mad. He's stuck on this team that has no chance of winning. If that were you, wouldn't you be a little upset?

I would love to see Kendall on teal. The guy fit well with his speed and our line up would be sick.

Cape,

What are you bringing up Pudge attitude problems? Didn't we go all the way and won the WS?

  • Author

Yea, like I said Cape, if you play for a hopeless team that trades away all of its stars (except you), you'd be ticked. In fact, I don't see Kendall as having attitude problems, but as a fierce competitor that wants to win, and I want a guy like that playing for me.

Whoever said that Castro/Redmond > Kendall, needs to wake up. If we have the money, why not spend it on a great player? Can you imagine having a guy built for PPS, that can hit .320?

And if you were on Pittsburgh, and the whole franchise was traded away and you were suck, would you be happy?
