  1. It is impossible to compare the 72-73 Dolphins and the 04-05 Patriots. What Miami did in one season may never be seen again ( the 85 Bears came the closest ) Game-by-game results +--------+-------------------------------+----------+---------+ | Week | Opponent | Result | Score | +--------+-------------------------------+----------+---------+ | 1 | at Kansas City Chiefs | W | 20-10 | | 2 | Houston Oilers | W | 34-13 | | 3 | at Minnesota Vikings | W | 16-14 | | 4 | at New York Jets | W | 27-17 | | 5 | San Diego Chargers | W | 24-10 | | 6 | Buffalo Bills | W | 24-23 | | 7 | at Baltimore Colts | W | 23- 0 | | 8 | at Buffalo Bills | W | 30-16 | | 9 | New England Patriots | W | 52- 0 | | 10 | New York Jets | W | 28-24 | | 11 | St. Louis Cardinals | W | 31-10 | | 12 | at New England Patriots | W | 37-21 | | 13 | at New York Giants | W | 23-13 | | 14 | Baltimore Colts | W | 16- 0 | +--------+-------------------------------+----------+---------+ Postseason AFC Divisional Playoff: won 20 - 14 vs. Cleveland Browns AFC Championship Game: won 21 - 17 at Pittsburgh Steelers Super Bowl: won 14 - 7 at Washington Redskins I remember the 52-0 game against the Patriots. Pete Rozelle was so horrified by the score he called the Orange Bowl to instruct the officials to keep clock on running time.
  2. http://patriots.bostonherald.com/patriots/...articleid=46150 FOXBORO - Contrary to popular opinion, the Patriots are not about to tie an NFL record for consecutive victories over two seasons. According to the NFL, the Patriots have won 14 straight - 12 at the end of last year and two this year. In their ``2004 Record and Fact Book,'' the ``most consecutive games won'' is 17, set by the Bears between 1933-34. Their 1941-42 team, as well as the Dolphins' from 1971-73 and 1983-84, had 16 and the Chargers and 49ers each had 15-game winning streaks. That first Miami group won its last game of 1971, all 14 games in 1972 and their opener in 1973 before the streak ended with a 12-7 loss to the Raiders. They won their next 10 before losing again, but rallied from that loss to the Colts by sweeping the rest of their games and taking their second straight Super Bowl title. But none of the playoff victories in either championship season was included in their ``official'' win total. Nor are New England's.
  3. Selig is running out of time concerning the Expos. The DC city council says October 1 is the drop dead date for next year. The Baltimore owner is fighting. Numerous reports including the NY Daily News and Washington Post hint the Orioles are considering moving to the NL East. NY Daily News Bill Madden Washington Post Meanwhile the White Sox of all people have expressed an interest in moving to the AL East. Their thinking seems to be they would be noticed more in the third largest market playing in the same division as Boston and New York. Toronto would also love to move to the Central and then have 2 rivals close by (Cleveland and Detroit) So lets assume the Orioles move to the NL East, you would need a team to come to the AL. The prime canidate would be Florida. The Marlins would be assured of sellouts anytime Boston and New York play there as the east coast of the state has millions of transplanted northeasterns. So when the dust settles you could see AL EAST Boston Yankees White Sox Tampa Miami AL CENTRAL Toronto Detroit Cleveland Kansas City Minnesota NL East Washington Baltimore Philadelphia Mets Atlanta At first glance nobody loses on this deal Orioles pick up rivals 40 and 90 miles away Tampa and Miami become rivals Jays get Detroit and Cleveland White Sox get more media attention in Chicago.
  4. Well JWH just exploded on SonsOfSamHorn over this story What is amazing is until yesterday, we had no idea http://p086.ezboard.com/fsonsofsamhornbost....topic&index=20 It's been a national story for awhile. I remembering hearing it from the late Doug Pappas this spring. Nothing we Marlins didn't already know about the man's character. 466106[/snapback]
  5. We just heard about this in Boston. What is the real deal? This week Clark Booth points out that John Henry just got his head handed to him in a Florida court and wonders why the Globe ignored the story. http://dotnews.com/booth.html Quote: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The judge asserted that while Henry was the Marlins principle owner the team "committed intentional acts designed to collect more insurance benefits" (than were deserved) to the tune of $2.7 million. In Judge Ronald Friedman's ruling Henry was chastised for his business practices and targeted quite specifically with the judge stating that the wrongful conduct occurred "at the highest level." Serious stuff. But apparently the kids at the Globe don't think it's a news story. On the other hand had it been George Steinbrenner who was on the receiving end it would have been stop-the-presses time, one suspects. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In any event this is how the Ft Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel saw it http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/basebal...-sports-marlins
  6. We were finally able to close the topic from hades http://forums.redsoxnation.net/index.php?showforum=26 8,052 replies and Sox fans STILL think the trade will happen :banghead

  10. As a long suffering Red Sox fan who once again is in hibernation after a tragic end to a baseball season that ended with a Marlins victory, I wonder how So Florida baseball fans feel about your former owner John Henry who now owns the show in Boston. Henry has been well received here (but after John Harrington, Saddam would have been too) but we have heard he is despised in South Florida. Henry blames one person for that, Hank Goldberg who Henry says had no reason he knows of for it. I bring this up, because Peter Gammons was talking at Harvard last week that the RICO case involving Loria, Selig concerning the transfer with the Expos could get ugly and soon. There is a chance that the courts may send Loria back to Montreal and Henry back to Miami and throw the rigged sale of the Red Sox into court as well. MLB is terrified of this case because they can not explain how Loria's partners in Montreal suddenly wound up with part ownership of the Marlins. I saw first hand how bad Loria and his stepson did everything they could to destroy baseball in Montreal and I am sure Selig thought they could do the same thing in Miami. People in Portland, Maine where the Marlins had their AA club loved John Henry and jumped when they could become a Sox farm team. We have seen nothing in 2 years to indicate he is a bad owner but now how is he looked at there, and how is Loria received? BTW we watched you win the Series in NY with bittersweet emotions knowing that we should have won the ALCS until Grady Little choked in Game 7. Sox fans believe we would have beaten the Marlins but we will never know. I can't take away anything your team did, especially the comeback against the Cubs on the road. I hope you get the ballpark you need and that South Florida will finally support baseball. I think there is hope there unlike St Pete/Tampa which IMHO will never support the game. I just wish we would have had the chance to play you, it would have been fun.
  11. I guess it will come down to the game in Foxboro. Thinking here in Boston, if Pats get by Colts next week at Indy, they will run the table. Oh ya congrats on beating NYY, but thank Grady Little for your series win as the Sox would have beaten the Marlins.... But....
