January 26, 200422 yr Boone could be out for season with torn ACL By Tom Verducci, SI.com NEW YORK (SI.com) -- New York Yankees third baseman Aaron Boone could miss the entire 2004 season after suffering a major knee injury last week while playing basketball in violation of his contract with the club, according to two baseball sources. The sources said doctors believe Boone suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament. The Yankees will seek all or some relief from the $5.75 million they were to pay Boone this season. Boone, whose dramatic home run ended the epic seventh game of the 2003 American League Championship Series against Boston, avoided arbitration Dec. 1 when he agreed to the one-year deal to return to the Yankees. His contract contains a standard clause that prevents the player from engaging in activities considered to pose significant risk of injury. Basketball is specifically mentioned in the clause as a prohibited activity. Boone is eligible for free agency at the end of this season. The Yankees expect that Boone is out for the year, though there is chance he could return in August depending on his rehabilitation. New York has no full-time replacement on hand to play third base. Utility men Miguel Cairo and Enrique Wilson have never played the position regularly in the big leagues. Prospect Drew Henson hit .234 in Class AAA Columbus last year and is not considered ready for the major league. Boone, who turns 31 in March, hit .254 in 54 games with New York after the Yankees obtained him in a trade with Cincinnati on July 31, 2003 at the cost of their best pitching prospect, Brandon Claussen. Though Boone also struggled in the postseason, he hit a walkoff, 11th-inning home run off Tim Wakefield of Boston in Game 7 of the ALCS to put the Yankees in the World Series. link
January 26, 200422 yr HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHHAHHAHAHAHAH HAHAHAHHAHAAHAHAH HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH sorry for that pubes moment doods.
January 26, 200422 yr well, time to get out your wallet Georgie, gotta buy a machette to slice him up, not to mention buy an all star 3rd baseman in the middle of the season
January 27, 200422 yr luckily he sucked! His ops outside of GAB was .7195....0015 worse than mike bordick! A lieber for koskie trade is very possible, but it would significantly weaken the Yankees rotation, forcing them to use depaula or sign Ron villone to a minor league deal. The Yankees can sign Maddux (like a bunch of dopes) or Ron Villone, who's adjusted era was 107 (Great pitcher andy pettitte had a 109, just 2 better. I personally would go the Villone route. However, the Yankees can trade for jeff cirillo because we love getting crappy hitters with huge contracts, but he has a good glove. The Yankees can go with Almonte or rush up Cano (who's great with the glove.) This isn't bad news, because Boone is a bad player.

Aaron boone sucks??? ... woah and Ron Villone is better than Andy Pettite LOL you need to stop looking at numbers on paper and start looking at actual performances. This isn't bad news, because Boone is a bad player..... woah, incredible
January 27, 200422 yr Villone pitched in a pitcher's park and wouldn't be a horrible 5th starter. Where did I say he was better? Furthermore, one homer doesn't make someone a good player. Is bucky dent a hall of famer? That bomb against wakefield is a non-argument. Enough said! And if the numbers don't prove Boone is bad, him striking out at everything and never making contact proves he's bad.
January 27, 200422 yr He's just a Yankee, so he is expendable! :rock :elefant :balloons :party :arms :cheers :lolup :lolup :jackass :killthemall Another one bites the Dust! :skippy :encore :deadhorse :deadhorse :drool :ban
January 27, 200422 yr ...and the spotlight of the NY media ...and crappy coaching from stottlemyre... Guys, by no means Ron Villone better than andy pettitte. Look at their career eras (4.91 compared to 3.94) and K/bb ratios (pettitte is twice as good), but look how pettitte won 21 games with the not-so-great over 4 era. Villone is a 5 starter who did medicore last year. Would it be the end of the world of the yankees acquired him instead of overpaying for old maddux? no. The Yankees should be increasing payroll no further. And I have WATCHED Boone a lot. His defense is extremely overrated because he seems to be lacking proper defensive instincts. His approach at the plate is more awful than his away ops. To be perfectly honest, he was not all that good. If the yankees make no trades, would enrique wilson, miguel cairo, robinson cano, or erick almonte be any better? No. But still, Boone was a bad player and if we can get a guy like Koskie, we have actually upgraded the team. P.S. I know you guys were expecting an sad outburst from my part...sorry to dissapoint you.
January 27, 200422 yr Personally, I would let Erick Almonte try for it. He did a pretty decent job filling in for Derek Jeter last year (although he had a high error total) and with his experience last year, he could be ready to try again. I think they will either sign or trade to get a third baseman, but I hope they consider Almonte before doing anything.
January 27, 200422 yr yeah they'll get someone, and NY will forget all about boone ... the closest thing they'll remember is boomer. now soriano ... you say that Koskie would be an upgrade over boone ... your out of your mind, boone is the 3rd best 3rd baseman, and hes got an edge over Rolen and Lowell because Boone can actually run. oh and by the way Boone is a gold glove caliber player ... even though he completly blew it in the playoffs, in his career he has been a tremendous defensive player. theres no way for an upgrade unless you get Lowell or Rolen ... and i dont think thats gonna happen, unless no stadium
January 27, 200422 yr you obviously don't know your baseball. Koskie plays on turf and is one of the ebst defensive 3rd basemen in the AL. He had a .393 obp last year...he's way better than boone. you just don't know who koskie is or seen him play. he's a huge upgrade over boone. the yanks did sign homer bush this offseason, so they might just fiddle around with the infielders.
January 27, 200422 yr hahahahhahahah lmao HOMER BUSH... he is terrible. Definitely not Yankees caliber. They will get somebody before the line if not before the season believe me there is no way Steinbrenner is gonna let Homer Bush start for a full season.
January 27, 200422 yr How the Yankees react to this news has an impact on the Marlins or any team's Wild Card chances. If the Yankees snag a infielder (not just 3B, Jeter and/or Soriano could move to third) from another team it may weaken the team enough to give some teams a better chance with the unbalanced schedule.
January 27, 200422 yr i do know koskie hes good, but hes not aaron boone good, and im sure everyone in here would agree.... yeah koskie has a better obp ... but boone is a 20-20 guy at 3rd base.... and koskie is good defensebly but so is boone. your basically calling me an ignorant and saying that i dont know my baseball cuz i dont sit and do math all day... screw that, its my opinion, and surely i dont think that in 54 games you can judge a player, especially in NY.
January 28, 200422 yr Uh, 105 games last season outside of GAB gave boone a .7195 ops Koskie is DEFINITELY better.
January 28, 200422 yr Author i do know koskie hes good, but hes not aaron boone good, and im sure everyone in here would agree.... i think id rather have Coskie :batman
