March 19, 200422 yr Well, I was finishing up my nap when I turned on my favorite cultural train wreck, MTV, when I saw this show, "I want to look like a celebrity..." WOW! What a sick-sick-sick world we live in. Here's the premise: You take some poor heel, who's either A) not good looking or B) comfortable with themselves and then you MAKE THEM OVER! Like their favorite celebrity even! Like, wow. So, the first show's about these two teens, who I'm not afraid to admit, fit into the pizza face category. Not terribly attractive dudes, but who cares? We're men, dammit! We don't have to be pretty. So, the camera follows around these two men as they displace their homoerotic feelings about wanting to look like Brad Pitt (never gonna' happen) and how they need to have this surgery. So they get it, and are now two hot looking studs (not really, but it is an improvement, granted I think them getting the acne cleared up had something to do with it; by the way that part wasn't in the show). So, now they want to get into acting. They get a "WARDROBE" and get their headshots. Okay, WTF!? Being a former actor I happen to have some insight into the biz. These guys have no formal training and want to be famous actors to impress chicks. Now, how could these two idiots, not ever having taken the stage even dream of becoming famous actors? What, does it not take at least SOME work to be good at it? Apparently you don't have to have training or experience in the field anymore, you just need to be some good looking guy (not true). Okay, this show makes me sick for a few reasons... 1) What is wrong with people that they can't accept themselves for who the hell they are? I understand self-improvement and wifting weights and that sort of thing. But full blown surgery? WHY!? 2) Why model yourself after someone you clearly aren't and never will be? Sure, I'd like to look like Brad Pitt, who wouldn't? But I'm not going to be depressed about it and sit around moping and be a loser because of it (I have other things to be depressed about). It's not like having the surgery and looking good means you'll be a millionaire actor and have all the babes wanting you. 3) One of the brothers did all this crap for a girl. A GIRL! And the best part is, she said he looked sexy, but then said her feelings hadn't changed about this poor schmoe/dork-ass loser. So far both of these men, er, boi'z are 0 for 3. Why the hell would you change yourself for a girl!? I mean, don't get me wrong, I love the ladies. I've done some pretty dumb things to get into some girls pants and all, but never anything so far out of character that I later regretted it (okay, maybe once in high school; but it was high school who cares!?). Listen, if some dame doesn't accept you for who you are, then screw 'em. Same with chicks and dudes. Some guy says he doesn't like you for some stupid reason, screw 'em. Find someone who respects you for who you are. Why the hell would anyone want to "become" someone else to try and fit the mold of what someone elses image of perfect is. I am a man. That means I am a farting, fighting and f---ing machine. All I ask for is some nasty meat to eat, the occasional special lady friend (maybe more than friends) and lots of pals to hang out with. I wouldn't change my single life now for some pretend life with a hot chick for anything. Sure, the sex seems nice in theory, but I'd have to pretend I was someone else and that's not cool. So, why the hell would anyone want to look like someone else? Better yet, is this phenomenon or trend going to grow because of this show? (sidenote: I could have easily flipped the channel to this idiotic program, but the concepts made me so angry I had to sit through just so I could feel this modicum of outrage like surging liquid nitrogen flowing through my veins. Now that I know the crappy premise, I will duly flip the channel like a well-informed American)
March 19, 200422 yr That show made me sick as well. No, they were not the best looking guys in the world, but they should be insecure about themselves. This shows what kind of society that we live in today. There are a lot of shallow people in this world that go off of things just based upon looks. People should like you for the content of you character and talent instead of your physical attributes. I know a few guys who'd change thereselves for a girl, and it's quite sickening to witness. This one guy I know (who I liked) became mormon, and got baptized because he liked her, and stopped talking to me because he was afraid that his girl would get jealous! Pretty so, he'll probably be wearing Abrocrombie and Finch and listen to Justin Timberlake all for her. It's disgusting, in my opinion. Bottom line, you don't need to change to impress someone and ya shouldn't be unconfortable with who you are because you shouldn't be judged on your looks anyways.
March 19, 200422 yr Very well said!!! If there is one thing I hate in this world (besides gossip), it is guys who are so damn ignorant, that girls have to look like supermodels to impress them. I once had a boyfriend who would tell me I was "too fat". He made me feel pretty crappy about myself. I felt so self-conscious about myself, it wasn't even funny. Then this one time, I had a friend who I had a crush on. We were at the public library and he was looking at a website of race cars and it had models wearing almost nothing. He had the nerve to look at me and tell me, "If you would lose weight, you would look like that and look BANGIN'!" I looked at him with a WTF kind of face and you can pretty much say I stopped crushing on him after that. Now my boyfriend, every chance he gets tells me I am beautiful and that I am perfect. I admit that when I started dating him I was a little insecure about myself (and I still am a little), but he has made me feel good about myself. BAW is right. If a guy/girl wants you to change who you are, forget them. They're not worth your time and they don't deserve you. You can find someone much better who will make you feel like a queen/king. I know that for a fact. I am living it right now.
March 21, 200422 yr the show is more than lame ... i havent seen it but im sure it sucks .... MTV is the devil
March 21, 200422 yr Guys can make girls feel so low.... It sucks. it works both ways Yeah it can work both ways, although I would not ever do that to a guy. You like him/her for who that person is. People can be so shallow.
March 22, 200422 yr Yes, it definitely can work both ways. There are girls who are just the biggest snobs and have the nerve to tell a guy to change something about them or they don't like something about them. What you see is what you get.
March 22, 200422 yr Stupid shows like this one exist because there are people out there who actually watch them. Never seen it, never will. You see I use a thing call "Remote". :mischief For info. look at my signature.
March 22, 200422 yr I forgot what channel it is on, but there is a show that they get a few ugly people, give them plastic surgery, and make them look gorgeous. I was watching the commercial for it and I was just disgusted. I mean, I understand that some of us want to look beautiful, but damn...plastic surgery? Yeck....
March 22, 200422 yr No,it wasn't Celebrity Makeover. It was something else. I just totally forgot what was the name and what channel it was on.
March 23, 200422 yr It's called Extreme Makeover... my friend made me watch it once.. i swear :shifty
March 23, 200422 yr It's called Extreme Makeover... my friend made me watch it once.. i swear :shifty Is that the show where they get people off the streets to get makeovers and most people don't want it?
March 23, 200422 yr They shouldn't put shows like this on the air. I agree. I saw Guerrilla Makeover on Pay Per View and got some baaaaaaaaaaaaad ideas. It's a long story. All I can say is my dog is now afraid to come near me.
March 23, 200422 yr Author Stupid shows like this one exist because there are people out there who actually watch them. Never seen it, never will. You see I use a thing call "Remote". :mischief For info. look at my signature. This show was so bad I couldn't turn this channel. Besides, sometimes it helps to get angry. You get stuff accomplished that way. So, sign me for Partnership for the Idiot Free America that doesn't give a crap.
