Heckeroo
i've seen a lot of chatter about this today on ESPN, and i think the answer is clear, at least for now John Wooden 88 game winning streak, 10/12 final four streak, the numbers are mind boggling PS: if i spelled duke's coaches name correctly, i am god (no research)
nc marlin
I saw this and I was like why no love for Dean Smith?
Heckeroo
I saw this and I was like why no love for Dean Smith? i was just saying these 2 because that's who they're talking about on ESPN right now my top 5 all time greatest college basketball coaches: 1. John Wooden 2. Dean Smith 3. Mike Krzyzewski 4. Bobby Knight (crazy, but he can coach) 5. Eddie Sutton

TarHeel324
ill take wooden here, but think that dean is the greatest sure im biased, but look beyond his numbers. he put together the cleanest program, never a violation, never a problem. also his teams were the first where the guy who received a great pass recognized the guy who gave him the ball. UNCs recent tailspin speak to how great he was an how devastating it was to lose him and if were talking about numbers, he has gone to more final fours than anyone else, won a few titles, and won more games than anyone else

TarHeel324
He also invented putting your fist up in the air when you need to come out. yeah he was an innovator he was a better person than he was a coach. that says a lot

Das Texan
if i'm correct.....there were a lot fewer big programs in the 70s that UCLA had to compete with. and there were no scholarship restrictions also. but the man could coach.
rferry
1. Smith. Rarely won it all, but was close enough. Successful during the old game and even more successful in the recent game. 2. Wooden. UCLA got nearly a free pass each year avoiding the top east coast teams until the Final Four of the tournament. They had top talent sitting on the bench. Despite all that what he did was incredible. 7 straight national championships, and 10 in 12 years right? 3. Coach K. For K to be in this debate we must value Duke's postseason success more than what they do in the regular season. But Duke, while having immense talent on the bench (see Dockery), have only 3 national championships.

BullDurham
1. Krzyzewski (spell it right next time, FishFan, or I'll kick your @$$), because he managed to do 3 times what Dean-o did twice. Would have been 4, but Duke managed to play in what ESPN sportswriters called "the worst officiated game in Final Four history." (and that's IN SPITE the CT bias I'm sure many from ESPN have) I'm not saying Duke would have won, but we also don't know whether UConn would have won without the poor officiating, either. 2. Wooden, because of his immense title run (I'm dropping him to 2 because of Sam Gilbert) 3. Dean-o. He's dropping this far because he only won once with MJ and Worthy and none with Antawn Jamison, Jerry Stackhouse, Rasheed Wallace, and Vince Carter. If you think K should drop this low because he *only* has three, then I'll drop Dean-o down this far for that reason, too. Oh, and if K is "Krybaby", what does that make Roy "I could give a $#*+ about North Carolina" Williams?
