Accident in the Youth Fair

Featured Replies

I don't have any news sources to quote at the moment, because it has not been reported yet. But while I was at the Youth Fair today there was an accident on the gravitron. Apparently during the ride one of the panels and/or the door came loose, and some people came flying out of the ride. Naturally, as would happen with any story that is new and in a crowd like this, the tale varied from person to person I talked to. From what I gathered there was somewhere between a couple and a handful of people thrown off the ride. One guy said two kids had died, but for the most part the reports were that they were still alive. I saw paramedics treating at least one body that lay on the floor. They were completely surrounding the body though, I could not tell if it had life or not.

That's all I know so far. I'm sure we'll hear more tomorrow.

That is why I am not too fond of carnival rides. Scary stuff, man. Wow.

Yeah, the sad part is I was going to a ride yesterday (not the gravitron) but I decided against it because the carnies looked like they were having trouble getting it to work properly. Scary stuff knowing something like this could have happened to you if you had made one or two choices differently.

but the food is expensive as fcuk. id rather just take in mcdonalds or something

Elephant Ears, Corn on the Cob, etc.

I wonder why no one has reported this yet, you would think something like this would make big time news in the community.

Amusement Ride Injures 7 in Fla.

MIAMI - An amusement ride broke open and ejected several passengers at a county fair, injuring seven people including a teenage who was in critical condition.

A piece of paneling came off "The Gravitron" while it was running late Friday, Miami-Dade police spokesman Juan DelCastillo said Saturday. The ride spins at high speed to generate centrifugal force that pins seated passengers against its interior wall.

A bolt that held the panel in place sheared, said Liz Compton, a Department of Agriculture spokeswoman.

About 40 to 45 people were on the ride when the happened, said Phil Clark, chief executive of the Miami-Dade County Fair and Exposition.

Three of the passengers were hurled out through the opening left by the panel, DelCastillo said. There was no immediate word on how far the three people were thrown.

A 16-year-old who suffered head and upper body injuries was in critical condition at Jackson Memorial Hospital, DelCastillo said. Six other people suffered injuries that weren't life threatening.

The ride passed inspection before the fair opened March 18, Compton said.

The fairground was closed after the but reopened for normal hours Saturday. The ride was impounded and an engineer planned to inspect it on Monday.

Agriculture officials do not believe the "Gravitron" has been involved in any other s in the state, but the agency was trying to learn if any other fairs were using a similar ride. Those rides would be re-inspected.

This is from Yahoo. Front page.

I went to the fair but I didn't go on any rides. I just ate. . . and ate.

i ate and ate and ate and ate

and ate some more

man that food is spectacular. elephant ears, kastle burgers, curly fries, cheesesteaks.....

i ate everything

One of the many reasons I'm not a big fair fan...people have asked me why I don't go and this is one of them...I don't feel safe......

Nothing is safe these days.

I always refuse to go to carnivals because rides and food are overpriced. I rather go to Six Flags and get unlimited rides for over $30.

But its true the food is really expensive $4 dollars for an elephant ear $3 for a corn. Its crazy and almost $3 for a damn soda with no free refills. :banghead

DAMN RIGHT!! WOOOO!! :afro

I mean you probably have a greater chance of injuring yourself or even killing yourself just driving to the supermarket than riding a carnival ride.

I try to view the rides and see if their steady or not and try by best to avoid those but I'm not going to give up the fair totally because of one incident this year.
