May 22, 200323 yr what's wrong with having most of your players on a 1 year deal... "you get paid for how you play" why would we want to be burned like we were with CJ and Preston? according to your conspiracy theory, Loria should just have a firesale and that we should get crap players back....why hasnt this occurred yet? why keep trying?
May 22, 200323 yr Because he can't be TOTALLY blatant....he has to keep up some semblance of trying. However by late July if the fish are, say, 20-25 games out of 1st place, don't be surprised with dwindling attendance (3,000 to 5,000 per game because of the bad record) he will use that as the excuse to gut the team. Having no one on more than a 1 year contract means that you will be bringing in more Hollandsworthless'es, not any potential All-Stars.....why would an established star come to a team without any proven players on it and settle for a 1 year contract ? Why do you think Col?n turned us down ? He knows this team is an ?nemtha, a scourge on baseball.....an embarassment. They have no future as long as Loria & Samson are involved; they are a cancer on the sport, and do it more harm than Huizenga could ever dream of doing. I wonder how serious the Col?n talks really were.......it seems as though what I have heard that they were considered a joke by Col?n & his agent.....more for show than substance.
May 22, 200323 yr Colon wasnt a free agent so your little story is a bunch of BS........in fact, Expos GM Omar Minaya said we offered to Expos the best deal but he didnt want to trade w/in the division you say no All Stars would want to sign here, especially for 1 year deals.....cough Pudge cough Loria and Co have done nowhere near the harm Huizenga did, in fact, they havent harmed it at all
May 22, 200323 yr pudge signed cause nobody else was giving him the money he wanted. pudge at this stage in his career is not worth 10 mil a season....everyone knows that but pudge. how much was baltimore offering? 7? he figured he could stay at home for a year...make his 10 mil and see if there are any idiotic teams out there to pay him the salary he desires next year.
May 23, 200323 yr Also, Pudge knows he HAS to perform this year in order for an 'idiotic' team to pay him next year. It is early. Good players are struggling, it happens. Pudge has only recently struggled. He will snap out of it. And for God's sake, if the Marlins didnt sign Pudge the media and other nay-sayers would be all over the front office again. They cant seem to do anything right in the eyes of some. Face it, Loria and Co. are here to stay. That may be the scariest thing of all, but I still have yet to see a good reason given to support any conspiracy theory.

He should have been a "star" of Free Agency this year, but was passed on by all but the Marlins. I think we are seeing why....he's not contributed very much to the team so far, his catching skills are certainly not what they once were and his curious abcense the last week (when there was no real excuse for being gone) has been devastating to his supposed image as a team leader. Just when they need him the most, he's gone. Sorry but your Pudge argument doesn't wash....nice try though. As for Col?n....he was in negotiations for a longer term contract and when the Marlins refused to negotiate for a longer term deal he told the Expos the Marlins were off his list of teams available to trade to.....if you want to believe the crap the Marlins give out to cover their tracks, fine but it's a bunch of BS from Loria & Samson. They got snubbed from Col?n because they couldn't get him to a long term CHEAP deal.

Jonny when they contract the team and take their money, will you then at least admit that it could have been a partially contrived conspiracy ?

May 23, 200323 yr I'm sick of hearing comparisons to other small market teams which are "successful". Depends on what you call success. the A's and Twins successful? Last time I checked they've won the same number of World Series as the Marlins in the last 5 years, ZILCH. good lord man, if that's your only criteria for having a successful team and getting enjoyment out of a sport then you must be a very depressed sports fan. only 1 team wins each year and it's likely not going to be yours. that's just the way it is. they've won the same number of World Series as the Marlins in the last 5 years, ZILCH. uhh, this would also include every single team except like 3.

Man.. then the Braves are a piece of crap.. they totally suck and Seattle Mariners are TRASH! How about them Cards they also suck! Last time I saw the Giants suck too. (All teams who haven't won the World Series in the last 5 years)
May 23, 200323 yr Jonny when they contract the team and take their money, will you then at least admit that it could have been a partially contrived conspiracy ? If the Marlins are contracted, what difference does it make whether there was a conspiracy or not? The Marlins would be gone and unless YOU were going to take this to court, then I see no reason to either believe it or worry about it. And you still have yet to prove or even find anything to suggest that there is actually a conspiracy taking place or even that the Marlins will be contracted! You only have speculation. :banghead
