Friday's Starter

Featured Replies

ESPN is projecting that Beckett will start against Ortiz on Friday when the Marlins play the Braves in Atlanta. This would normally be Oliver's turn.

Does anyone know if this has been decided? Would McKeon skip Oliver so he could get his ace in the game? This would effectively be going to a four man rotation on weeks when there is a rest day.

I doubt that Beckett will go on Friday. Its too early in the season to be doing stuff like this, especially with a team like the Braves that are struggling right now. Expect to see Oliver pitch this friday.

This would also skip over Jared Wrights start as well.

So it really doesn't make any sense.

Just wondering why ESPN is showing this.

ESPN has really gone downhill in the last several years, so I wouldn't exactly how much weight to what they have to say.

Take it for what it's worth...but Sportsline.com is listing the Oliver-Wright matchup for Friday.

I wouldn't do it. It doesn't really buy you that much. You're just flip-flopping Beckett and Oliver. Beckett would start Friday and then Oliver would have to go Saturday anyways because Penny won't be ready to go until Sunday. So you would've split up Beckett and Penny. You can make the argument that you want a different type of pitcher between the two hard throwing righties, but if they'd wanted to do that, they'd have done it to open the season.
