Preston Wilson Out Indefinately

DENVER -- Colorado Rockies center fielder Preston Wilson will undergo arthroscopic knee surgery this week and be sidelined indefinitely.

Wilson, who did not start for the third straight game Wednesday night, has torn cartilage in his left knee. While he was hopeful of returning to play this season, there was no timetable on his recovery.

Wilson was placed on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to April 13. The Rockies said outfielder Matt Holliday will be recalled from Triple-A Colorado Springs and will join the team Thursday.

Wilson, who led the NL in RBIs last season with 141, was hobbled for most of spring training with a sore left knee. He began experiencing swelling during the past week.

"He started to get more and more swelling," Rockies trainer Tom Probst said, "and we were not able to control it with treatment. It wasn't getting any better. We just went to the next step. He'll have arthroscopic surgery, and there is no timetable for his return."

Wilson was relieved to know what was causing the discomfort.

"Now that we know what it is, hopefully we're going to get it right and when I come back I'm going to be 100 percent," he said. "It's good any time you know what's going on in there. When you're kind of left in that gray area where you don't really know what to think, it's a little bit tough."

Asked if he was confident of returning this season, Wilson said, "I think so. But you never know."

The Rockies are already without right fielder Admin Walker, who is on the disabled list with a strained left groin.

NOOOOOOOOO ... i was fearing the time would come. :(

My fantasy team is now officially done.... well not really but Matt Lawton aint no Preston Wilson.

Anyone think he'll be back this season?

It was reported this morning that the best case scenario is 4-5 weeks but I expect longer.
