Watching the past couple of days it seems like we're being very tentative at the plate, taking alot of strikes early. Seems like we were alot more aggressive last year, especially JP. Anybody notice the same thing or am I off base?

Taking the 1st pitch is usually a good idea.

Your pretty much suppose to take the first pitch,it's normal the batter has to see what the pitcher is throwing,if not he's gonna be guessing at the plate.

My number 1 issue tonight is that with Choi on second with no outs.

 

Nu?ez did not try to bunt him over, neither did Castro. I don't care how many HRs you hit, we need to stick to our smallball. It works.

I understand that commonly you take the first pitch, but what I'm talking about goes further than that. I think JP has watched his way to 0-2 atleast twice this series as has Nunez. It seems like we're doing alot of watching strikes 1 and 2.

just to flesh out the thought, last year i think we were alot more aggressive, came to the plate swinging. This year it looks like we've taken patience too far.

Some times you have to take the first pitch but most of the time you have to trust your instincts and swing if it is a good pitch. I do think that Pierre taking in the first at bat is the way he should start each game but after that at bat he should be ready to swing on each pitch because you never know when you are going to get the flat fastball right over the plate.

If you always take the first pitch you will miss out on a ton of great pitches because with great pitchers the first pitch is usually the best pitch you will get.

 

Once your behind on a great pitcher you should just start walking back to the dugout because that is the only place you are going.

They probably were given the sign but we trying to hck their way into the starting lineup.

But you know how much we all complain when a player swings at a pitch and pops it up or grounds out the first pitch. Working the pitcher is a good thing. For example last thursday when in the first inning the montreal pitcher forget who threw 29 pitches to 4 batters in the first inning. Then they got to him in the fourth inning possibly when he was beginning to tire

You're not going to be sucessful when you watch the firs two strikes as we've been doing this series (I can't speak for the rest of the season because I haven't been able to see the games). We've been consistently looking at 0-2, 1-2, and at best 2-2 counts. Not a whole lot of hitters counts at all. Atleast thats the way I remember seeing it the past two days.
