Libelula
MIAMI -- Marlins catcher Mike Redmond suffered a chipped fracture to his left pinkie after his finger was inadvertently spiked Friday night by Braves second baseman Marcus Giles. An X-ray revealed the chipped bone. Redmond, who is splitting catching duties with Ramon Castro, had his finger examined by Dr. Brian Fingado after Friday's 6-1 loss to Atlanta at Pro Player Stadium. Despite the injury, there is a chance Redmond will be in the lineup Sunday. The injury occurred in the seventh inning. After walking and reaching second base on Abraham Nunez's walk, Redmond dove back to second after Juan Pierre's hard line drive was caught by shortstop Rafael Furcal. Looking to double up Redmond, Furcal flipped to Giles. Redmond dove back safely headfirst, but the second baseman's spike clipped the tip of his left pinkie. Redmond remained in the game and was replaced by Castro an inning later. "It's sore," Redmond said. "We'll see how it feels tomorrow. We'll see what they say." Castro is scheduled to start Saturday, and the Marlins are hopeful Redmond will return to catch Dontrelle Willis on Sunday. Willis is off to a 3-0 start and he hasn't allowed an earned run. The 32-year-old Redmond has caught all three of Willis' starts, and is credited with handling the 22-year-old effectively. "We're getting Red checked out with an X-ray," Marlins manager Jack McKeon said. Asked if he thinks Redmond will miss any games, McKeon said: "Right now, I'll say no. The guy stepped on it. Just got the tip on it. He wasn't going to play tomorrow anyhow." Redmond is hitting .406 (13-for32), and he has one home run and seven RBIs. Castro is off to a 6-for-29 (.207) start with one homer and three RBIs. It's nice to hear that he might be in the line-up. Hopefully he'll be ok. TSwift25
It's a good finger to hurt, your non-throwing pinky doesn't get a whole lot of work in. Red's a tough guy...he'll play through it :thumbup

AJBurnett34
Damn, right when he had a hot bat in our lineup. Well we havent seen much of Castro lately, but Redmond starts almost all the day games. So redmond might see action today and rest for a couple of days and let Castro catch.
