May 4, 200422 yr To read other teams, head to http://www.foxsports.com/content/view?contentId=1021690 Miami-Dade County and the City of Miami last week agreed to a $367-million plan to build a stadium southwest of the Orange Bowl. Many hurdles remain, but it's a first step ... P Darren Oliver (8.54 ERA) will probably lose his spot in the rotation. Once he does, Justin Wayne will be his likely replacement. Other possibilities include minor leaguers Michael Tejera, Kevin Olsen and Trevor Hutchinson ... Alex Gonzalez could start losing time at short to Damion Easley unless his hitting picks up ... Lineup: C ? Ramon Castro, 1B ? Hee Seop Choi, 2B ? Luis Castillo, 3B ? Mike Lowell, SS ? Alex Gonzalez, LF ? Jeff Conine, CF ? Juan Pierre, RF ? Miguel Cabrera ... Rotation: 1 ? Josh Beckett, 2 ? Brad Penny, 3 ? Dontrelle Willis, 4 ? Carl Pavano, 5 ? Darren Oliver ... Closer: Armando Benitez.
May 4, 200422 yr I would like Wayne to get a start. Yes I know he's been good in the pen but I just think this kid has improved overall and would do well as a starter too.

But then who do we use to setup for Benitez? I think Bump is too unreliable for that role and all the other guys are just as unreliable. Wayne is our new setup man and that is a VERY important role on this ball club. We will be in a lot of close games and we need someone who can come in and hold the lead for Mando.

I honestly do no think his stuff is good enough come the 6th and 7th innings. He has been a great reliever 1. Lets not ruin his confidence and 2. We need someone reliable in the pen.

Hell he lost it the other night after going just 2 innings... He is a 1 or 2 inning guy...that's it. He is far mroe valuable in the PEN than as a starter. But that being said who knows what they'll do. If Oliver has another bad outing next time we may very well see Wayne starting.

So you're saying you'd rather lose the game in the 1st inning than the 8th?

So you're saying you'd rather lose the game in the 1st inning than the 8th? You have a much better chance of winning a game with 8 innings left to play than you do with 1.... In most of OLIVER's starts he has gotten the run support......but the Bullpen has been unable to hold leads. So while Oliver may have sucked in those games it was our bullpen that failed us. Not that that excuses Oliver for sucking but he is not the only one to have failed the team in games where he has pitched.

Maybe a Wayne-less bullpen won't have to be relied upon as much with Justin in the rotation than Darren?

No the point is if we are going to have a shaky pitcher on the mound I would rather he be up there early int he game instead of late. Cause if we blow a lead int he 8th it is a lot harder to come back and win than if we blow a lead in the 2nd or 4th. Wayne is not gonna thow more than 7 innings...
May 4, 200422 yr I think Wayne is better in the 'pen, he just seems to thrive there. I mean, as a starter, he's got to go through the line-up twice maybe three times an outing, as a reliever, he may not even have to go through the lineup once, giving him a big time advantage.
May 4, 200422 yr Justin Wayne, while has a starter's arm, does not have starter stuff. His stuff is good the first time around the order, but he does not have the kind of pitches that can sit people down two, three, four times in one game. I'm sorry, but that is the blunt truth. In this sense he is perfect for our pen, because that first time around he is extremely effective, however after a second shot things start falling apart. Free Phelps (Or Hutch)
