Hardest Record To Break

Featured Replies

folks, this is obviuosly in baseball

a lot of choices to choose from:

Ripken's Games Played Streak

Orel Hershiser's scoreless inning's streak

DiMaggio's hit streak

Nolan Ryan's K's

probably even more, but they're either too obscure or i'm just not thinking of them right now

Di Maggio's hit streak.

A garbage player can play everyday for a bazillion years and break Cal's record. It isn't unreachable.

I'm going to go and say in order it is:

DiMaggio's Hit Streak

Ryan Career K's

Ryan's 7 No Hitters

Cal's Streak

Hack Wilson's RBI record (190 in one season)

Four homers in one game (held by many people)

Five total homers hit in the span of two days (also held by many people)

Stolen Bases in a Year

Hack Wilson's streak will forever be the hardest thing to do over the course of a season. And he did it in a 150 game season if I am not mistaken.

Di Maggio's hit streak.

No, because in order to play in that many games in a row you have to be consistently good to fend off challengers to the position coming through the organization.

So it's easier to hit in 56 straight games? If it is why hasn't anyone even come close?

Everyone though Gehrig's record was too out there and unbreakable. Ripken destroyed it. No one has gotten close to Ryan. No one has gotten within 12 games of DiMaggio. Twelve Games! That's two weeks worth of baseball. And no one has gotten even close to Hack's record either.

I also forgot, Hitting .400 will take a while as well.

Like I said I'm bias but Dimaggio record is probably harder to break but the discussion wasnt about which one has more prestige its about the hardest.

i guess you cant judge which is toughest out of some of them

but I got to think Cal's, DiMaggio's, and Cy Young(wins record of 511) will not be touched

also 138sb in a year by some guy named Hugh Nicol in 1887(modern record is Rickey with 130)

I'd say Cal's consecutive games started streak is most impressive. That's 15 years of never getting injured while playing Gold Glove-calibar defense at the game's most demanding position.

Imagine if Nolan Ryan was a better pitcher and was on better teams (face it he was on some bad teams and his ERA wasn't the best.) He made almost as many starts as Cy Young. Of course bullpens can blow games and such, but imagine if we get someone equivalent to Barry Bonds now, but a pitcher, and he just manages to land on good hitting teams and not get injured.

He can be a rookie phenom, get up in the bigs at the age of 18, have great power and offspeed stuff and pitch to he is like Orosco, about 46, or with nutrition and supplements in the future, 50 years old.

Do beat cy young's record in what would be a 32 year career, he would have to average exactly 16 wins a season. It is certainly POSSIBLE, but I doubt it can happen. But it is nice to imagine.

If Roger Clemens keeps going for a few years more (who knows, he might) he can catch Ryan's K mark

Actually, Hack Wilson had 191 RBI's, that figure was changed from 190 in 1999 when they found that one RBI was omitted.

most wins all time by a pitcher

its safe

I agree, especially with the 5 man rotation.

I think someone batting .400 could be broken this year, but Bonds wont have enough at bats to make it official... :thumbdown

Ah, that's right.

Even more unreachable.

It's plate appearances per game I believe, not official at bats

Not dissagreeing, I just thought it was like 400 ABs or something....

Thats why you see guys that are injured for a while sneak in at the end with a solid month....

Can anyone clarify the rule?

In order to qualify for batting titles in averaged categories (Avg, Slg, OBP, OPS, RC, OW%, #P/PA, G/F), a player must average at least 3.1 plate appearances for every game his team has played. Sorting by qualified year-to-date excludes all players not currently on pace to reach that minimum

the shortest 9 inning game ever. One day, all the records above will be broken (it may be a century by now, but they will all be broken eventually. But the 52 minute game (or whatever it was) record will always stand

Nah. Baseball will be continue to be played well past the revolution and the end of all television and commercials.
