May 13, 200422 yr Is this guy hurt or what? I mean, we know his finger is hurt but if he is hurt, he needs to go on the DL till it is better he is now hitting a robust .241 thoughts?
May 13, 200422 yr yeah he dosent seem to be 100 percent he hasnt been hitting good at all if he is hurt than he needs to go on the DL but we cant have our #2 hitter hitting so bad...especially when JP infront of him is getting on base a lot
May 13, 200422 yr yeah i think its a good idea if he bunts more...i mean he hasnt been getting on base a lot using his power...so he should atleast use his speed and try to get on base by bunting...i think he will get on base more if he bunts but of course he dosents always come up in a situation where its good to bunt....but usually he does come up in a good situation.
May 13, 200422 yr Hey, we've already got 2 regulars hitting below the Mendoz line. Compared to them, Castillo is Tony freakin' Gwynn.
May 13, 200422 yr yeah...its pretty hard to score runs when you have to of your regular hitters doing very bad.....its not like we are the yankees and we have a lot of great players and we could still win and dominate even if some of our regulars play bad...we need evenryone to hit...we cant have some people just slumping.
May 13, 200422 yr yeah he should hit righty...he has a lot more power when he hits righty...he is a lot worse lefty...but I guess he likes the advantage of being a lefty when he hits against a righty...but I still think that he should bat righty even when he is facing a right hander...unless of course he is going to bunt...bc. he would want to be closer to first base...but that is something to think about: should luis castillo always hit rigthy even when he is facing a right hander?
May 13, 200422 yr no he shouldnt He's considering doing that though, because the pinky doesn't bother him as much when he hits right handed.
May 13, 200422 yr no he shouldnt so you prefer him to keep on hitting lefty even if he continues to hit this bad? we need to score more runs and castillo needs to get on base more...so we need to do somthing...making him hit righty could be the solution!
May 13, 200422 yr Author no he shouldnt He's considering doing that though, because the pinky doesn't bother him as much when he hits right handed. :plain i guess i missed that

He's hit left handed against right handers for a long, long time, it's not like he could just switch over and be awesome. Even if he is considering it.
May 13, 200422 yr well he has done a better job when he has hit right handed even though he has only hit right handed against lefty's...so I think that he will be better right handed even if he has to face right handers...

If that was the case he would have been a right handed hitter his whole career. If he switches, it'll only be because of that pinky and he'll switch back when he's healthy...unless he kills the ball, which is unlikely.

So just bc. he hasnt only hit righty his whole career dosent mean that its not such a smart idea even with his pinky hurting.
May 13, 200422 yr just bc. they never thought of having luis hit right handed all the time dosent mean that it wouldnt be a great idea for him to hit right handed all the time. Understand?
May 13, 200422 yr I think that he should just take a few days off and let Easley get some more playing time. Redmond took some time off without going on the DL, so I think Luis should do the same.
May 13, 200422 yr just bc. they never thought of having luis hit right handed all the time dosent mean that it wouldnt be a great idea for him to hit right handed all the time. Understand? They've thought of it. In fact, they taught Luis how to hit left-handed. Luis is a natural right-handed hitter. The Marlins made him into a switch hitter when they signed him 10 years ago to take advantage of his speed. I seem to vaguely remember Castillo giving up hitting left-handed for a brief period when he first came up, but that was a long time ago and I could easily be mistaken. I kinda wish he had stayed as a right-handed hitter - you can tell by watching him that he hits the ball with much more authority right-handed. But at this point in his career, I can't imagine him switching other than temporarily because of an injury. Other than a knuckle-baller, Castillo hasn't batted right-handed against a righty in many years.
