ESPN and the Media In General...

Featured Replies

Yes I know, Foster is the program director and a big Marlin supporter.

Carl Foster is the biggest IDIOT in sports programming in South Florida!

Listening to a Foster show is torture. He gets his facts wrong at least 50% of the time, and his show is mainly those stupid sound effects "drops" and him shilling for all of his products (iBid USA, Champions Sports Drinks...).

I will never forget his classic blunders like asking Dick Anderson what it was like playing as a member of the Killer B's defense (being that Dick Anderson RETIRED about 5 years BEFORE the Killer B's) or asking Dontrelle Willis if he watched Luis Tiant pitch in person (Dontrelle HADN'T EVEN BEEN BORN YET!!!).

You may like him, but he's a moron and Anita Marks is totally useless on the air! I can't believe he's got another show, but then again, it isn't like they hire him, he's paying for the airtime.

I didn't say his show, I said as program director.

It's not like WQAM is any more accurate about baseball.

Griffeys 500 is absolutely HUGE, i've already got my Tivo set to record the Reds game tonight just incase he hits it because i'll be at the Sox/Fish game and when I get home i'll want to watch him hit the ball, hear the live call, the experience afterwards, etc. rather than just see a highlight on sportscenter or bbtn. Hopefully Boog will keep all of us listening to the radio playbyplay in the stadium updated on Griffey :) .

Out of all the outlets, the one who gives you the breaking Marlins news on injuries and trades, etc. has been 610 WIOD. That is where I heard AJ needed Tommy John and was injured first and where I first heard that DW was being called up.

ESPN has broadcasted atleast 5 Braves and Cubs games this year that were being shown at the same time on WGN or TBS.

How many Marlins games have they shown? 2, and one of those an excuse to showcase the new Philly ballpark.

And guess how many Marlins games have been announced on ESPN's upcoming schedule. None yet for remainder of the season. But they have the Orioles - Devil Rays and Dodgers - Rockies games locked up. Woo.

The only 2 First Place Teams in Interleague play that Are Duking it out this week are the Marlins and Chisox, yet all the Media Coverage is Griffey and his quest for 500 Homers (Whoopdedoo). Or Cubs vs Astros...blah blah blah... No where do you see anything about the Sox vs Marlins... Ohh well. The Media has never liked the Marlins anyways the only reason they have even received any attention at all is cause they won the World Series.... lol

Well its sometimes good that we dont get any respect. And that teams dont think much of us because in the 2003 WS the Yankees thought they had the series in the bag already. And IMO I think that they took it easy at the beg. because they thought they had nothing to worry about. Atleast the fans thought they had nothing to worry about because most people by far thought that the Yankees were going to win even though that has a lot to do with their being more Yankee fans than Marlin fans. But anyways when people dont give you respect and teams dont think you are that good than you can surprise them and beat them instead of them preparing so hard to play against you and beat you.

I'm going to tell you, ESPN's baseball coverage is getting worse than when NBC was debating whether to air baseball or the Presidential debates in 2000. Heck, CBS had a better presentation of baseball and more variety in the Early 90's than ESPN has today even though ESPN has freedom to choose their games.

I hope FOX snatches the rights from ESPN for good or MLB requires ESPN to show more teams on a more balanced schedule.

Fox isn't going to do away with their Sunday night programming or the programming on other weeknights so then you're only going to get one or two games a week from them which is what they are doing now. Then there is less baseball televised nationally which is not a good thing. I enjoy Sunday Night Baseball and all ESPN broadcasts and would not be happy if they lost the rights to MLB.

ncmarlin,

Fox has FX and a new Fox Sports Channel in the works to bid the rights away from ESPN, as well as developing a new MLB TV with the owners.

BTW why didn't FX renew their contract with MLB?

When Disney bought the Family Channel from FOX, ESPN bought the FX rights. that is why ESPN now has the DayGame.
