Wrigley Field Falling Apart......

I don't think the Cubs could play there anyway due to the conflicts possible. Miller Park would be easier because of the way the NL schedule is done.

Hey, beer man! Beer man?

Sox cutting back on serving the suds at Tuesday night games

Good luck getting a beer delivered to your bleacher seat on Tuesday night games at U.S. Cellular Field.

The White Sox have halted hawkers from stalking the outfield seats during Pepsi-sponsored half-price nights.

Why? Too many fisticuffs in the stands.

"We were finding that we draw a very young crowd on Tuesdays that come in big groups. It wasn't just two people squaring off. It's two people squaring off with eight friends each behind them," Sox spokesman Scott Reifert said. "This is something that happened on a couple Tuesday nights that was not very pleasant for a lot of people, including season ticket-holders.

"Our concern is to change the atmosphere, attitude and fights we were seeing on Tuesday nights ? and it's working."

The beer-sale restrictions, which started June 8, limit beer sales at outfield concourse kiosks to one per person.

Greg Temple, 58, of Oak Lawn goes to about 20 games a year.

"It's not a bad idea," he said of the cutback in brewski vending. "Some guys get a little out of control in the late innings."

Sox security officials haven't decided if the outfield seats will remain beer-vendor-free on Tuesdays for the rest of the season.

"We can adjust. We're not wed to anything, but we're certainly more concerned about having a safe environment for fans, and a fun one," Reifert said.

Will fans balk at the beer ban after awhile? Rhonda Johnson, 26, of Markham goes to a Sox game every other week.

"I guess I understand it, but it'll be annoying," she said.

Annoyance aside, the team is making a concerted effort to curtail rowdiness in the stands, like the kind that grabbed national headlines in September 2002.

Fueled in part by a lot of beer, Alsip resident William Ligue and his 15-year-old son took the field in a sneak attack on Kansas City Royals coach Tom Gamboa.

Beyond the Tuesday night limitations, Sox security guards ? all off-duty Chicago police officers ? have the authority to curtail beer sales on any day in any part of the park.

"We can adjust in the middle of a game given a situation ... restricting beer sales in a certain section or the entire outfield based on the atmosphere security personnel are dealing with," Reifert said.

"Safety and security is first. If we have to stop beer sales in the fourth inning, we will do so."

Compare the fights you have in baseball stadiums to the fights they have in Europe over soccer...at least people get arrested here when they get in a fight at the stadium! The USA is a great country for this.
