Trevor is gonna have surgery again on his shoulder and will miss a chunk of the season...

Towers: Hoffman could be out two more months

Padres general manager Kevin Towers said Saturday the 35-year-old Hoffman could require a second operation on his pitching shoulder, a setback that probably would sideline him for more than two months.

Towers said the problem isn't career-threatening, but he hoped Hoffman doesn't have to miss the entire season.

Hoffman, who's fifth on the all-time saves list with 352, is recovering from arthroscopic surgery on his right shoulder in October. The four-time All-Star hasn't thrown a baseball since the operation.

Towers said if Hoffman's shoulder pain persists this month, he likely would

need more intensive surgery. That could put Hoffman out for the season.

He wasn't a closer when he was here- he was mostly a reliever until they gave him a starting job, where he was much more effective. While he doesn't have overpowering stuff, you could tell he knew how to pitch. Last year's stats show that. (1-2, 1.41 ERA in 32 innings)

The marlins have yet to know what having a bad closer is like they always find someone to be a good closer is pretty amazing if you think about it.

I hope Hoffman is able to pitch this year.
