August 6, 200422 yr John Kerry is a fraud. Everyone who served in the military with him called him a p***y. In an election year you will find people who served with him saying opposing things, why because they will say what is needed to justify their beliefs. Who is telling the truth? You (beinfest4prez) are certain that he was courageous and heroic just as anti-kerry people are sure he was not. There really is NO way to prove it based on just testimony; unless film is found of kerry displaying bravery or otherwise there is no concrete proof. 498280 One can only look at the facts without pretty adverstising and phony patriotism... The ones bashing Kerry now, praised him before. Enough said.

You (beinfest4prez) are certain that he was courageous and heroic just as anti-kerry people are sure he was not. There really is NO way to prove it based on just testimony; unless film is found of kerry displaying bravery or otherwise there is no concrete proof. How about the testimony of those who were on his boat with him? Just throw them all out to be liars? How about a general understanding? How about when John McCain condemns the ad as pure false crap? How about when the Bush administration says they dont support the ad and say the recognize John Kerry's heroism? The people ON his boat testify to his honor. The people who say he is lying were on other boats. So pretty much everyone on his boat lied at the time right? By your logic, any ad is open game as long as the accusations cant be proven false. WASHINGTON (AP) -- Republican Sen. John McCain, a former prisoner of war in Vietnam, called an ad criticizing John Kerry's military service "dishonest and dishonorable" and urged the White House on Thursday to condemn it as well. "It was the same kind of deal that was pulled on me," McCain said in an interview with The Associated Press, referring to his bitter Republican primary fight with President Bush. The 60-second ad features Vietnam veterans who accuse the Democratic presidential nominee of lying about his decorated Vietnam War record and betraying his fellow veterans by later opposing the conflict. "When the chips were down, you could not count on John Kerry," one of the veterans, Admin Thurlow, says in the ad. Thurlow didn't serve on Kerry's swiftboat, but says he witnessed the events that led to Kerry winning a Bronze Star and the last of his three Purple Hearts. Kerry's crewmates support the candidate and call him a hero. The ad, scheduled to air in a few markets in Ohio, West Virginia and Wisconsin, was produced by Stevens, Reed, Curcio and Potham, the same team that produced McCain's ads in 2000. "I wish they hadn't done it," McCain said of his former advisers. "I don't know if they knew all the facts." Asked if the White House knew about the ad or helped find financing for it, McCain said, "I hope not, but I don't know. But I think the Bush campaign should specifically condemn the ad." (Special Report: America Votes 2004) Later, McCain said the Bush campaign has denied any involvement and added, "I can't believe the president would pull such a cheap stunt." The White House and Bush-Cheney campaign did not address McCain's call that they repudiate the spot, though a Bush spokesman said the campaign does not question Kerry's highly decorated war service. McCain is co-chair of Bush's campaign in Arizona. 'Old wounds' In 2000, Bush's supporters sponsored a rumor campaign against McCain in the South Carolina primary, helping Bush win the primary and the nomination. McCain's supporters have never forgiven the Bush team. McCain said that's all in the past to him, but he's speaking out against the anti-Kerry ad because "it reopens all the old wounds of the Vietnam War, which I spent the last 35 years trying to heal." "I deplore this kind of politics," McCain said. "I think the ad is dishonest and dishonorable. As it is, none of these individuals served on the boat (Kerry) commanded. Many of his crew have testified to his courage under fire. I think John Kerry served honorably in Vietnam. I think George Bush served honorably in the Texas Air National Guard during the Vietnam War." McCain himself spent more than five years in a Vietnam prisoner of war camp. A bona fide war hero, McCain, like Kerry, used his war record as the foundation of his presidential campaign. The Kerry campaign has denounced the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, saying none of the men in the ad served on the boat that Kerry commanded. Three veterans on Kerry's boat that day -- Jim Rassmann, who says Kerry saved his life, Gene Thorson and Del Sandusky, the driver on Kerry's boat, said the group was lying on all fronts. They say Kerry was injured, and Rassmann called the group's account "pure fabrication." The leader of the group, retired Adm. Roy Hoffmann, said none of the 13 veterans in the commercial served on Kerry's boat but rather were in other swiftboats within 50 yards of Kerry's. The group claims that there was no gunfire on the day Kerry pulled Rassmann from a muddy river in the Mekong Delta and that Kerry's arm was not wounded, as he has claimed. "What we have is a fabrication that led to Kerry getting his Bronze Star and his last Purple Heart," said Thurlow, who said he commanded a swiftboat near Kerry's. Let me ask you this legacy, they are saying they didnt see the whole Rassmann events. They are saying Rassmann and everyone else is lying and they are telling the truth. Lets assume for a second this is true. They also lob this in there: "When the chips were down, you could not count on John Kerry," one of the veterans, Admin Thurlow, says. Essentially they are arguing now that John Kerry is a coward. That's a pretty serious accusation. Do they point to specific events? What basis, when they werent even with Kerry, do they have? Were they watching Kerry from the their boats, which were 50 yards away, and somehow saw him quivering in the corner when shots were fired? Id like to hear your defense against this utter and total slander. Well if there is no film, then there is no concrete proof, so the following can now be argued: -John McCain was vacationing in Tahiti and not in a prison camp for 5 years. -George Bush did not fly a bomber in WW2 etc etc

Which I defintely am not saying. Truth be told I dont believe kerry was a coward or a great hero. He did what he had to do out there just like everyone else and thats it, I do not doubt his patriotism or courage. That being said this issue is absurd. Your mccain and bush I comparisons to the kerry issue as is done oftne in this board is a comparison of apples and oranges. The film example is simply a statement referring to the fact that the w/o concrete evidence there IS NO WAY TO BE SURE about the bravery of kerry, bravery by the way is an intangible quality, bush flying an airplane in WW2 is not being debated by anyone b/c concrete facts can be used to prove he was on that plane; if the argument was about how brave or resourceful he was as a pilot then thats an intangible argument. The vietnam issue has become a he said she said argument, which the supposed facts cannot be proven true nor false. I have read arguments on both sides and honestly I do not agree w/ the veterans against kerry ads, but I find it interesting that everyone who was arguing against my point (which really is somehting that should not be argued against b/c I was arguing anything myself)

FOX is nothing but a 24 hour commercial for the GOP. You need some serious reality check here. Can you tell me why is that the only news outlet to report differently is FOX? Oh wait, that's right, "the liberal media".
August 6, 200422 yr Furthermore, I don't trust CNN either. They are becoming a carbon copy of FOX. It is a war for ratings with the networks. I posted CNN because they had the decency of at least correcting the record on the whole "Swift Boat Liars for Bush" ad. Listen, I am really tired of being constantly attacked for my views. All I'm trying to do is shed some light on the smears brought on by Bush's campaign. The only News network I really trust is not even American. NWI.
August 6, 200422 yr Legacy, whether or not you or I think military service is irrelevant doesnt matter. What does matter is that a lot of Americans, foolishley I might add, make some pie in the sky notion of character an important part of their decision. Thats something Bush has used as well as anyone in recent memory. That said, this is an attempt to undercut Kerry. If Kerry was saying what he was saying without any testimony, Id agree with you. But he has 5 credible people who were with him who testify for him. In criminal law, thats a closed case as far as prosecutions go. But do these guys have any subtance to their attacks? No, just those guys were liars and Kerry is a coward. To give both ends equal weight seems silly to me. I think their motives are evidenced by the ads themselves. They are not only arguing Kerry is a liar, they are arguing Kerry is a coward. Cleary it works...just look at what cfdodgemarlin is posting.

In fact the way that you view foxnews is how conservatives view CNN, but the fact is both are legitimate news stations. Interesting report done recently: Study: Cable News Viewers More Partisan By David Bauder, AP Television Writer Published: June 09, 2004 NEW YORK (AP) The nation's political divide is increasingly being reflected in where Americans get their news: Republicans like Fox News Channel and Democrats prefer CNN. Meanwhile, six in 10 Americans aged 65 and older say they read a newspaper on a typical day. Only 23% of people under age 30 read a paper regularly, Pew said. Fox's audience has grown explosively since 2000, with most of those gains coming among viewers who describe themselves as Republican or conservative, according to a study released Tuesday by the Pew Research Center for the People and the Press. More than half of Fox's viewers describe themselves as conservative, Pew said. ABC, CBS and NBC evening news viewers are slightly more likely to be Democrats than Republicans, according to the survey. Pew found little partisan tilt is the audience for MSNBC, the struggling third cable news network. Four years ago, the same percentage of Democrats (18%) as Republicans told Pew they watched Fox regularly. This year, 35% of Republicans said they watched Fox regularly and 21% said they watched CNN. Meanwhile, 28% of Democrats described themselves as regular CNN viewers, and 19% of Republicans, Pew said. As recently as 1996 -- the year Fox News Channel came on the air -- CNN's audience was more Republican than Democratic. "To a certain extent, the media has reaped what it has sown," said Andrew Kohut, the Pew center's director. "The emergence of the shout show as a significant piece on all of the cable networks ... has made the news seem more partisan and Republicans increasingly look at the news one way and Democrats the other." Fox's "fair and balanced" slogan has helped convince many Republicans that other news organizations tilt left, Kohut said. Radio talk shows play a part; Kohut said a growing lack of faith in the media is a trend that dates back to the 1980s. A Fox spokesman, Brian Lewis, did not immediately return a call seeking comment. A CNN spokeswoman, Christa Robinson, said she's proud that CNN is considered a credible source by people of all ideologies. Even among Republicans, 26% of poll respondents say they believe all or most of what they hear on CNN, and 29% say the same for Fox. Fox was the least-trusted news source among Democrats polled, Pew said. Of Fox, Robinson said: "They grew their Republican audience. I'll let you analyze what it indicates." While most Americans say they don't care if the news they watch reflects their own policy viewpoints, 43% of conservatives said they prefer that. One-third of liberals and moderates want news that reflects their views, Pew said. While Fox News' Bill O'Reilly says he's not necessarily conservative on many issues, his audience is. The Pew survey found 72% of "The O'Reilly Factor" viewers described themselves as conservative, and 4% said they were liberal. Meanwhile, 22% of PBS' "NewsHour" viewers describe themselves as conservative, and 71% say they are moderate or liberal, Pew said. Due largely to Fox, cable news continues to grow as a favored outlet for news while the broadcast networks' ratings are flat. The Internet is also growing as a news source, and bringing in more older and minority computer users, too, Pew said. Pew based its survey on interviews conducted with 3,000 adults between April 19 and May 12. The margin of error was plus or minus 2 percentage points. Foxnews is much more conservative than CNN is liberal. Im with lina...I dont think there is a liberal station out there. I think its interesting that almost as many conservatives believe what they hear on CNN as they do on fox. Seems to go against CFdodgemarlins claim that its "Clinton News Network."

I think its interesting that almost as many conservatives believe what they hear on CNN as they do on fox. Seems to go against CFdodgemarlins claim that its "Clinton News Network." 498638 It's true. All the networks are fiercely competing for ratings. Everytime I turn on the channel to MSNBC, CNN or CBS they have these ridiculous stories that are not even worth for information, but that are pure and cheap entertainment. They are copying FOXs successful format to the detriment of unbiased information. It seems that they prefer to have an anchor beauty contest than offering newsworthy info. That is why I prefer NWI, they never show stupid news and stick to the ones that matter, plus their anchors don't look like Super Models without a brain.

And to say fox is a disgrace is being ignorant, I'm sorry that you have no tolerance for people who think differently than you, but as a conservative when i watch CNN there is a liberal bias in the commentaries, and thats how our U.S. media works. Is it correct? No. heres a logical puzzle for you....If Fox news is a disgrace b/c of 'conservative' bias then CNN is a disgrace b/c of liberal bias.

There is not one station that I don't think sucks. ALL SUCK big time. FOX just sucks more. CNN is closely getting there. They're all bias. I am sorry but as liberal as I am I can tell you that there is absolutely no "liberal" bias in any news media. In fact, I think they're all trying to copy FOX's format because it brings more ratings and revenue. I repeat, they're all incredibly bias. To get a greater picture, I have to watch all of them and draw my own conclusions. FOX is just impossible to watch. It is a screaming contest.
