How do you got about fixing the Dolphins?

work on the O-line and start looking at that defense because its getting up there in age. tim bowens hasnt even suited up yet and he's been around since the shula days. also try to get a QB to compete with Feely and finally make a decision on wtf they think sage is gonna be. also, stop giving up draft picks in trades this year, i was petrified for a little while there hearing about Admin johnson coming here after already giving up a pick for gordon and of course feely during the off-season.

There is no way they can give up anymore draft picks. Just no way.

If Ricky isn't traded for a player then they can use him for draft picks. He seemed to want to go to the Oakland Raiders, and if they Raiders want him they'd be giving up a decent draft pick since they aren't going to be winning many games this year.

Herald article:

Should 0-4 Dolphins cut losses?

BY JASON COLE

jcole@herald.com

The nature of football doesn't lend itself to waving a white flag this early in the season. The desire to compete to the end is strong.

But even a man who helped guide one of the league's most storied franchises to a Super Bowl title said that, given the circumstances, the 0-4 Dolphins would be wise to consider starting to rebuild now.

''Every week, you want to win, no matter how bad the situation,'' former Green Bay Packers general manager Ron Wolf said. ``But if you're that far down, making some trades is something you have to consider.''

Dolphins general manager Rick Spielman declined to address what the team might do but said teams have rebuilt in the past.

''Right now, we're only worried about going up and winning at New England,'' said Spielman, who has only the Dolphins' first-round pick and Chicago's third-round pick in the top three rounds of the 2005 draft after making a series of deals.

``Lots of teams have gone through growing pains and rebuilt and become good teams. It happens all the time because of the salary cap.''

The only fortunate part for the Dolphins, who face the Super Bowl champion Patriots at 1 p.m. Sunday, is that no decision is necessary today. The NFL trading deadline is Oct. 19.

The relatively early deadline is one reason the NFL doesn't feature the number of trades usually seen in baseball or basketball, where key players such as Carlos Beltran or Rasheed Wallace are dealt on a fairly regular basis.

The other reason is that football, the most complex team sport, doesn't lend itself to change so easily.

Finally, making deals now isn't easy, particularly when no one is sure who will return next season.

LAME-DUCK STAFF?

''Do you want people who aren't even going to be there next year making those types of decisions,'' ESPN.com reporter and longtime NFL writer Len Pasquarelli asked. ``From what I can see, you're going to have a lot of change [in Miami]. I think it would be best for a team in that type of situation to hold on to their players and let the next regime make the decisions.''

The Dolphins have at least two players -- cornerbacks Sam Madison and Patrick Surtain -- other teams would like to have. If Miami decides to rebuild, the two might not be around for the long haul.

The team's weakness is its offense, which has scored the fewest points and touchdowns in the NFL. But the defense will soon need to rebuild, too.

Madison, linebacker Zach Thomas, defensive end Jason Taylor, defensive tackle Tim Bowens and linebacker Junior Seau all are 30 or older. Safety Sammy Knight is 29, defensive tackle Admin Chester turns 29 later this month (and is out for the season with a knee injury) and Surtain is 28.

Also, some within the organization say Surtain doesn't take care of himself enough and might deteriorate fast. He has had at least two arthroscopic procedures on one of his knees and missed time this season with a groin injury.

''Pat gets by on his God-given ability and that's it,'' a team source said. ``Great player, but you have to wonder how long he'll last?''

Also, Madison and Surtain have contracts that either balloon or expire after next season, making them potentially expensive to keep long-term. Finally, backup cornerbacks Reggie Howard and Will Poole could step in as capable starters.

GOOD TEAMS NEED HELP

Indianapolis, with its porous defense, would welcome Madison or Surtain. Same goes for Philadelphia, which is playing with a pair of unproven corners.

Still, at least one former NFL executive advised against making wholesale trades now.

''What are you really going to get for Madison and Surtain?'' asked former Green Bay, Atlanta and Oakland personnel man Ken Herock, who was Wolf's right-hand man for years. ``Nobody is going to give you a first-round pick. If Indy wanted a cornerback that badly, they would have dealt for [recently traded corner Mike McKenzie].

``It's tough, but you have to let this season go and rebuild in the offseason.''

Here's what I would do:

-Fire the entire coaching staff, and the upper management. This team needs a complete house-cleaning.

-Get rid of Fiedler.

-Draft a quarterback that can become the new star of the future, and develop him. Either that, or trade for a franchise QB.

-Try to convince Edgerrin James to come back to Miami.

-FIX THE O-LINE

-Dump the bigger defensive salaries on older players to free up cap room.

Most important of all:

-Hire a head coach that will get these players in line. If Parcells was still available, I would want him. I would be shocked if JJ decides to unretire again.

The problem is, with so many things to do, how do you prioritize?

Things that need a good deal of development need the most attention. Things like OL, QB, and coaching staff. Running backs are so instinctual they don't need a ton of time to develop. Getting rid of Feidler will happen on June 1 I'm sure because he's a $5 million cap hit next year.

A weak draft at QB? LOL, Matt Leinart as the only legit QB? HAHA, Leinart is a product of the system. There are plenty of 1st round caliber QBs like: Kyle Orton, Dan Orlovsky, adn Aaron Rodgers.

Charlie Frye from Akron is the #1 Senior QB on most boards.

I would avoid him, the lack of competition, and lack of production from Frye when he does play good teams (like NIU, Miami Ohio, and Marshall) he struggles.....

And although those struggles can be attributed to lack of talent on his own team, i'd still be scared to spend a high 1st rounder on Frye.

Has to be a situation where they don't need him to play (i.e. not Miami). He'll need to sit a couple years, like McNair.

In the postgame it seems like the players don't even care. Right now they are playing to pad their stats not even trying for a win. :thumbdown

Maybe I missed his name being brought up but where's Kurt Warner in all this talk of QB's?

Kurt Warner + our OL = Brenda Warner is a widow

Is he a FA after this season? I think we are done trading draft picks for players.

If we could manage getting Warner and EJ in the offseason we would have probowl caliber QB and WR right away and could trade down from our #1 draft pick to get a couple of first rounder linemen.
