Will Lowell be history in a couple of weeks?

I can't believe you guys are such negative turds. We are sounding alot like Cubs and Phillies fans.

Just trust the FO, they know what they are doing.

These people are proffessionals and make a living out of these decisions. Please don't be stupid. We should appreciate that we don't have that bad of a payroll like the Rockies, Expos, Blue Jays etc.

Rockies have a higher payroll than we do, and the Jays have about and equal payroll, but a higher amount paid to on-field talent considering $13 million of ours goes to two players not on our roster.

And how can you trust an ownership that basically destroyed the previous franchise it owned.

I'm sorry that exposing what I believe to be a horrific side of Loria makes me a "negative turd" but the truth hurts sometimes, and I guess it's easier to blindly trust than to take offense.

That previous franchise was bringing in an insufficient amount of local revenue for its two previous owners and had a move to DC been blocked twice by MLB before Loria even got there. If you're going to accuse Loria of anything restrict it to pushing out the minority partners by expanding payroll past their $30M suggestion/agreement.

if he goes, he goes

maybe we get a nice package for him

no need to worry, just let things happen

how are we going to get anything for a guy who will be a free agent November 1st? This is different from Lee, he was arby eligible. We might as well take the draft picks.

I take back what I said here. I didn't realize that if we traded him that the option for the last 3 years would be picked up.

I now want to vomit.

Does any one still want to debate that I have every right as a season ticketholder to be pissed off. We're now talking openly about trimming payroll by trading our second best hitter. No matter how much I was frustrated by his second half struggles he is still an elite 3B, behind only Rolen, ARod and debatably Beltre. He isn't as hyped as some of the other guys, but day in and day out he makes the plays that have to be made defensively and he can contribute offensively (although that is getting rarer).

This isn't a baseball decision we're making, it's an economic decision, but we've already decided to bump season ticket prices to nausiatingly high levels. f*** this ownership. We had a chance to keep the greatest catcher of our generation and instead we opted for Lowell, now we don't have Pudge, and soon we won't have Lowell, do we even have a plan we're going to stick to?

I really am not too happy with the Marlins right now.

Brace yourselves for a very very very bad offseason.

I agree 100%

Anyone thinks that Loria is good for this team is blind. I can guarantee that the money Loria will save by ridding himself of Lowell's contract will go back into his pocket for good.

Attendance went up

Ticket Prices are going to go up

And the payroll is going to decrease?

What's funny is that if Encarnacion had value any where close to the 4 - 5 million he will make next season, he would go too.

Why are people assuming LoDuca is going to stay?

The value of this team as far as baseball talent is concerned will be worse next season. Payroll will more than likely not be the same and if it is it's only because some players like Conine and Enc aren't worth their contracts.

So maybe we should blame Beinfest?

Keep Lowell.

You aren't going to get anything in a trade for the guy because he can file for FA and go to whatever team he wants to play for.

We let him go and the Mets will put him at 3B and everytime we play the NYM we'd wish he wasn't on the opposing team.

Lowell leaves: Fans lose. Marlins lose.

If the Yankees are interested, and we're interested in getting potentially equal value or something near it, the three players who could be available for a pretty much fully paid contract next season:

Jason Giambi

Javier Vazquez

Kevin Brown

Just to play the devil's advocate, a straight up trade of Lowell for any of those three with the contract near fully paid (especially in the case of Giambi, but I find that one to be the least likely), sets us in good shape to play the FA market.

Essentially, a 1-2-3 of Burnett, Beckett, Brown/Vazquez is talentwise equal to or greater than a 1-2-3 of Burnett, Beckett and Pavano, plus we'd let Pavano walk, and have that money to invest in a hitter.

I'd take Javy but that's about it.

I want Adam Dunn, Delgado or Sexson :(

Those are one of the few players that could make a huge impact on this team.

Just the fact they are thinking about moving Lowell means that they are not looking at signing impact players for next season. Its cost cutting.

i think a reason he is being traded is because of his lack of producing in the second half, they want somebody that's good all year.

He and Cabrera pretty much carried the team all year. You put surround them with quality hitters and they will get better pitches. He does seem to fade away in the 2nd half recently but he still is an MVP and a clubhouse leader.

I agree but since I got a lashing from all the eternal optimists on this board, I tried to have faith that we'd make a trade where we try to get equal value, but I have a feeling Lowell goes to the lowest bidder.

mike lowell lost his clubhouse leadership when he started bitching to the media.

If that was the reason, we wouldn't have gotten Lo Duca. Lowell is worth it, and he didn't lose anything when he "bitched to the media", Lowell is still a clubhouse leader.
