October 19, 200422 yr They're predicting rain the next two days in NY, Sox are going to be able to set up their rotation nicely for the last 2 games.
October 19, 200422 yr Not playing tomorrow would help both teams. As it stands right now, this is whom I think would be unavailableif the game were to be played tomorrow: Boston: Foulke, Timlin, Embree, Martinez, Arroyo, Wake (well, maybe for a couple innings), Leskanic. New York: Rivera, Gordon, Hernandez, Loaiza, Brown, Mussina, Quantrill, Sturtze, Vazquez (inning tops, but they might kill his arm after 100+ on Saturday) Game 6 will be a war of attrition. Whoever beats up the other starter first will win the game.
October 19, 200422 yr Actually I think the gods hate them, for making them think they have a chance. And then having those dreams squashed. But dont worry regardless, its only supposed to be showers tomorrow night.
October 19, 200422 yr Author Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised ... but this has just been an amazing series that I can't complain no matter who wins. Even for the Sox to force a game 7 would be incredible.
October 19, 200422 yr Sox lose in 7. More painful that way. 595915 Indeed. Especially after the big comebacks.
October 19, 200422 yr 84 years without a world championship, countless heartbreakers and having your arch rival win 26 world championships and 39 penants, yeah the gods LOVE the sox. :plain the sox are setting themselves up for disappointment, you guys can quote me on that. to little to late.
October 19, 200422 yr Rain favors the Yankees. It's not like Schilling's ankle is gonna get any better and Flash Gordon and Mariano Rivera are about as close to unavailable as they can be tomorrow night. I mean, yeah, Boston's pen is shot too. But the Yankees pen minus Gordon-Rivera is something you gotta want a chance to take advantage of.
October 19, 200422 yr Author 1) It allows them to rest an absolutely spent pen, the Sox pen has pitched a lot more innings than the Yanks. 2) It allows them the possibility pitching Derek Lowe in Game 7 instead of Arroyo.
October 19, 200422 yr 1) It allows them to rest an absolutely spent pen, the Sox pen has pitched a lot more innings than the Yanks. 2) It allows them the possibility pitching Derek Lowe in Game 7 instead of Arroyo. 595955 Screw game 7. You have to play game by game in their situation and no Rivera/Gordon gives them a better chance to win game 6. Worry about 7 if there is one, until then, who cares?
October 19, 200422 yr 1) It allows them to rest an absolutely spent pen, the Sox pen has pitched a lot more innings than the Yanks. 2) It allows them the possibility pitching Derek Lowe in Game 7 instead of Arroyo. 595955 how the hell could the red sox have more innings than the yankees? do you mean pitches thrown?
October 19, 200422 yr 1) It allows them to rest an absolutely spent pen, the Sox pen has pitched a lot more innings than the Yanks. 2) It allows them the possibility pitching Derek Lowe in Game 7 instead of Arroyo. 595955 Lowe is abismal outside of Fenway, I think Arroyo is the way to go. But you have to win tomorrow. Game 6 is what counts first. Play to win today, forget tomorrow until it comes.

Sox starters have blown
October 19, 200422 yr I know this is a little off-topic, but how 'bout that girl singing god bless america? :lol That was one of the funniest things I've seen in a while.
October 19, 200422 yr Author Do you honestly think the Yankees will not pitch Rivera if they have a chance to win the game? As long as his arm is still attached to his body he'll pitch tomorrow. The Red Sox on the other hand have to worry about having enough help if Schilling has to exit early tomorrow. The pitcher really available in that case will be Arroyo -- and I'm not so sure I'd trust him.

Sox starters have blown 595964 oops i'm sorry i read it incorrectly. i thought you wrote the red sox have pitched more innings then the yankees, i didn't notice PEN in your sentence.

Sox starters have blown 595964 Today both starters went 6. Sunday Lowe went .1 more than Duque. Brown and Arroyo both went 2 on Saturday. Both pens are equally taxed.

With Curst Schilling leaving early and Bronson Arroyo tanking it, the Sox pen has pitched some 7 or 8 more innings than the Yankees.
October 19, 200422 yr Some thoughts on pitches. Over the passed three days: Yankees: Vazquez (96 Sat), Quantrill (27 Sat, 8 Sun, 13 Mon), Gordon (17 Sat, 26 Sun, 19 Mon), Sturtze (21 Sun, 13 Mon), Rivera (40 Sun, 22 Mon), Heredia (14 Mon), Loaiza (59 Mon) Red Sox: Mendoza (20 Sat), Leskanic (15 Sat, 13 Sun, Warmed Up Mon, Hurt Shoulder), Wakefield (64 Sat, 43 Mon), Embree (14 Sat, 30 Sun, 9 Mon), Myers (42 Sat, 4 Sun, 4 Mon), Timlin (37 Sun, 20 Mon), Foulke (50 Sun, 22 Mon), Arroyo (17 Mon) You have to figure Foulke and Mariano are available on emergency need only. Gordon and Quantrill aren't available at all, neither is Loaiza nor Vazquez for the Bombers. Sturtze could be yanked for a couple batters but he should be tired. For the Red Sox you figure Leskanic only in an emergency long game, Embree and Timlin likely won't pitch, Arroyo won't, and Myers maybe to one batter. Overall it looks like the Yanks' pen has been stressed more, we shall see what happens tomorrow.
October 19, 200422 yr Wakefield is a little tired. He could probably only throw around 200 pitches tomorrow.

Schilling leaving early by now has no effect because of the two days off between Games 2 and 3. Both pens are dead, right now equally.
October 19, 200422 yr Author It looked to me as if Francona is saving Arroyo in case of emergency tomorrow. I still thing Lowe will pitch game 7, he didn't work a whole lot Sunday (only 88 pitches) and looked pretty good.
October 19, 200422 yr In case of emergency, yes. But I'd prefer Arroyo starting Game 7 and having both Lowe and Pedro to back him up.
October 19, 200422 yr The whole point of this is to make Boston loose when oh so close in game 7 in the bottom of the 24th.
