i just cant believe how people are ok with the way this is going down. have any of you been to the orange bowl site? this is a terrible place to add more conjestion. I for one go to 3 games a week i cant see myself driving into little havana in heavy traffic in a dirty nasty area with little to no parking no matter how much i love the team. this isnt New york, Chicago, or Boston where an already conjested area can handle more conjestion. we have no public transportation system here! i for one think that loria won't front the difference because what he is getting himself into in the long run wont be succesful.

By 2007 MetroRail will be out there with shuttle buses running between existing stations regularly for game day like at Coors and the road system will be changed in preparation for this. It's South Florida....traffic is everywhere.

public transportation is not feasable for the kind of people u need to support a stadium. most of the peopel who live near that area arnt gonna be able to afford season tickets and you arnt gonna have people from down go to that area watch a game and then deal with the traffic to get back into the city...lets agree its a horrible site

It seems to work for 70,000 a night, why not for 30,000 a night? Where there be a problem and those with the will to solve it, there shall be a solution. PPS isn't the best either, the parking lot and surrounding roads get very congested and the on ramps are crazy after games.

This site is final, so either it is there or not in Florida.

thats true. and why would these people in these ritzy high rises want to travel into little havana into the sleazziest scummiest area to watch a game?

Does anyone know how much the Marlins get on a typical gameday at PPS in revenue? From that we can determine a good low amount that we can use for calculating how much sales tax this new ballpark will create.

PPS is ten times better than the orange bowl, they even moved the bowl game to pps. college football is at the most twice a month not every nite.

We are in the year 2004. This is to be finished by the year 2007.

PETCO Park was finished in 2004. Back in 2001 it was just a construction site in the middle of Downtown San Diego with an idea.

Coors Field was finished in 1995. In 1992, Blake Street and the rest of LoDo (aka Lower Downtown Denver) was a dump. Look at what it is today.

Getting 30k in and out a night is not a problem. When the Canes play a wimpy team and draw that, it isn't bad right? There will never be two events at the complex as the schedules will be made so one is on the road or off when the other is home.

I can't get over the negativity on this board. Where is the love. If you evaluate Loria based on results and facts you have to like him as the Marlins owner. Don't jump to conclusions. I am sure that the fan base in Oakland went nuts when they let Tejada go because of financial constraints, but hey were in the race til the last week of the saeson again. Small market teams have to make difficult decisions regarding value. Why is everyone assumming that they are going to get rid of lowell, castillo, benitez and pavano and replace them with scrubs? Why are we mad at our owner, who brought us a championship a year ago, because there is a mayoral candidate that wants to derail all the progress made over the last year. Why are we blaming our ownership for the financial crisis in the state budget that developed due to the Hurricanes.

Based on the actions of this ownership group since they have been here we should be more optimistic with their moves. Maybe they don't field the team we wanted because they are strapped with a $10 million punishment from previous ownership. Should we blame Loria for that?

Mike Lowell is known for having bad finishes and our best young player is best suited to play 3B. Throw in the fact that Lowell fired the first shot by saying he might opt out. Do we want lowell to go: NO! But it is not outrageous to think about dealing him. This may give us the ability to keep our pitching together and add a high value hitter (like pudge in 2003) to the lineup.

These guys have earned our patience!

Let's use an average of 2 persons per car, a capacity crowd of 30,000 (ballpark will have 28,000 or so seats), and that they all will drive and ignore MetroRail, MetroBus, and not have more than 2 in a car.

That means you would need 15,000 parking spots. The average fan driving into PPS for a Marlins has 3 people in the car according to estimates I have heard. Using that number, you only need 10,000 parking spots.

Of course, 1,000 could always use Transit or Walk....but we want to be ready for any situation right?

Another bonus: County and City get a cut of any profit Loria makes if he sells the team.

City Parking Garage will have 2,500 spots. Count in those used in other locations around the OB and those that may be built off site by private or public projects and you have your solution.

i give up. i live in the real world, not this make believe world where evrything will work out perfectly. i hope it does and i hope your right, but i know better.

Go on living in ignorance. Things change, just because they are something at one moment in time doesn't mean they shall stay that way forever. It's called progress, people you like you need to join in instead of fighting it.

You don't think that having an MLB Ballpark, the Canes in the OB, and all the other events won't motivate a parking management company to build some garages around there?

no your an idiot for believing a plan that hasn't even been announced or even discussed in the public forum will ever materialize. If this deal was for sure wouldnt manegement be out SCREAMING "WE DID IT come on marlins fans we got a plan in place buy your season tickets." no your an idiot thats got his head in the clouds. THE OB SITE SUCKS! listen to me even the team fought it they didnt want it the fans hate the idea. the only people who claim to like are the people on this board. normal human beings would not say that having a MLB stadium sharing a common wall with a delapidated college stadium is a good idea. The site is god awful, the plan will not materialize they are short money and you keep point out cities like Denver and Arizona these cities arnt in the financial crisis miami and florida overall are in. Ive seen the plan for the garage and stadium, it will take the team and city over budget which every finacial analyst they have approached has says is guaranteed. this will cost more than 500 mil! where is the differnce gonna go??? the city wont take it! and loria will go broke if her tries.

but they are essentially on the same spot. the canes hate it and the marlins dont like it either they just dont have a choice its free. my big beef is how someone can think that this is a good idea. i am not arguing that it might be the only option only how bad of an idea it is.

It was Denver and San Diego. Arizona is a state. This ballpark is not going to be sharing a wall with the Orange Bowl, that was like 2 plans ago. Miami and Dade County are going into this with very low risk compared to the arenas and Orange Bowl renovation because they will be getting a 42 year lease and other benefits from the team's prosperity due to this project.

If it were up to you to decide if the world was flat back in the 1500's, America would have never been discovered.

  • Author

The city wants this to happen because if not, the Orange Bowl renovation cannot happen. The garage being built, along with the ballpark will allow them to get the additional value in equity to renovate the old stadium and make it what it should be.
