  1. I honestly wouldn't mind trading Hanley. It makes that payroll bearable down the road when people like LoMo and Stanton begin to hit arbitration. Either way this works out is fine by me. What's going to make payroll bearable is not offering no trade clauses and then unloading the recent signings (or Hanley) once this team put together for the launch of the new stadium has run it's course. Teams don't make money from short term moves like the one you are implying they are going to try to pull. This team has been making money hand over fist the last 3 years. You only deviate from that course of conduct if you have a legit long term plan for making money, big time money. I have no doubt in my mind that the FO thinks they can make Red Sox/Yankees coin through Latin America. Whether that is true or not remains to be seen. MIAMI -- The cost-cutting Florida Marlins finalized their big trade with the Mets on Thursday, sending slugger Carlos Delgado to New York for first baseman Mike Jacobs and two minor leaguers. Huh, funnily enough, they do. I don't get it. Are you saying the Marlins made money from this move? If I'm not mistaken the Marlins attendance didn't improve after that signing. The Marlins made more money from revenue sharing than they ever made from signing Carlos Delgado.
  2. lmao @ the earlier statement that Hanley has earned the abiltiy to play SS. In all my life of playing baseball I've never understood the obsession with playing SS. It's because he'll get paid higher over his career and his offensive numbers would be much more respected at SS than putting up the exact some numbers, or even better, by playing short. Being a great hitter for a short stop and a pretty good hitter for a third basemen could be the difference between a good career and a HOF career. But it does bear mentioning that Hanley just isn't a very good fielding SS. He isn't a pretty good hitter. Before last year he was one of the best hitters in the game regardless of position. His Batting Title year would still have been a batting title year at 3B.

  4. lmao @ the earlier statement that Hanley has earned the abiltiy to play SS. In all my life of playing baseball I've never understood the obsession with playing SS. Hanley earns his salary by doing what the team tells him to do. If he doesn't like it his only remedy is to bitch. Which he can exercise at the risk of looking like a dumbass and worse being dealt to shittown USA. If he doesn't like 3B he better be ready to play in KC or Seattle because he has NO leverage.
  5. you don't handle an emotional person by getting just as emotional .... there is a lot of time until spring training ..... let the initial wave ride out and reassess ...... no need for knee jerk reactions ozzie laid the groundwork perfectly .... each time they talk the emotion of the move will drain a little until he's on board with it One of the best post on this site. You are 100% correct.
  6. Simple fact is, you should not be giving up 3 run homers to Rod Barajas. That was the turning point. It might have been the turning point but I thinks its silly to say that one should not give up HR's to rod baraja as if Barajas was Rey Ordonez or something.
  7. And yes, Uggla turning down that kind of money is maddening but it doesn't mean you rush into an impulsive trade. It means you wait until the break and trade him when demand is higher and a better deal presents itself. And if there's no better deal in July? This move allows you to address multiple issues with the team and arguably make the team better right now all things considered. It is funny also that you criticize Buck's somewhat flukey 10 season and don't address Uggla's. "If there's no better deal in July" is not a wise way to do business, imo. If I had to bet, i'd put my money on getting more from Uggla by waiting, than rushing it for a utility player and some unknown relief pitcher (plus, trading him to a division rival. this move makes the team better right now? seriously? Now the Braves are that much better, and this helps the Marlins how? lol You don't see too many arguments include bad ways of doing business followed by: "if I had to bet". With that said, this was likely the best offer that included major league ready talent. This team is in win now mode. I don't think the Braves improved more from this deal than the Marlins did. Uggla brings 1 thing to the table and that is HR's. Many teams across the league are going to see this as the Marlins selling high. Uggla is just not what most teams are looking for at 2B and that is a reality that hampers his value.
  8. Deplorable move. I despise this ownership a thousand times over. I applaud ownership for offering an over-market contract at 4/$48 to try and keep him for beyond baseball reasons. It's really shocking how this is ownership's fault. DAN TURNED DOWN THE CONTRACT. DID WE ALL MISS THAT? Agreed. Not to mention BP is improved and FA has just started. No reason to think the Marlins don't continue to add players. Nolasco's extension now becomes priority number one.
  9. Can Infante play the outfield? He's played all 3 OF spots in his career, the most in LF. Infante will play 2B/3B according to LB.
  10. He does. C is far harder position to replace/improve upon. In Infante, if they do in fact use him as FT 2B, they have improved defensively. In a vacuum Infante/Buck > Uggla/Baker/Paulino and it isn't close. You're kidding? Buck is a terrible defensive catcher and is actually a step down from Baker. Infante/Buck's career OPS combined is .721, Ugg's/Baker/Paulino is .785. Both Infante and Buck had career years last year and played well beyond their normal stat line, expecting similar or even better performances from them is a bit naive in my opinion. I never mentioned Buck's defense but even if he was the absolute worst defensive catcher in the league he is a substantial overall improvement over Baker. Baker isn't even rosterable, in fact, he may very well be DFA in the coming weeks. My statement re defense was re the IF. Infante is a head and shoulders better defensive 2B and while we lose HR's with the departure of Uggla you have a core than can withstand that loss with ease. With the continued improvement of Morrison, Sanchez, and Stanton the Marlins will have power to spare. You trade 15 HR's all day everyday if you can make measurable improvements to your BP and INF defense. Again, especially if you are forced. For better or for worse, Uggla forced a trade.
  11. any idea what our lineup would look like... this is what im thinking: 1. Omar Infante 2B 2. Chris Coghlan 3B 3. Hanley Ramirez SS 4. Mike Stanton RF 5. Gaby Sanchez 1B 6. Logan Morrison LF 7. John Buck C 8. Scott Cousins CF 9. P I think there is NO chance that Cousins is the Marlins opening day CF. This team is in win now mode despite what many will perceive as a salary dump in the Uggla move. I'd watch for another trade or possibly a tier 2-3 CF pickup via FA.
  12. If I'm not mistaken Lou the Uggla money is all used up on Buck and Infante. Infante is 2.5, Buck is 6. That still leaves close to 4 million assuming we were probably going to pay him 12 mil this year. Plus Nunez is probably gone. We're probably looking at 7-8 mil left to play with. That's right, forgot it was $12 not $10. Do we still dump Nunez though? I know he's overpaid but he's still a decent bullpen arm and certainly wouldn't hurt to have around. Not sure what we could possibly go for in FA, another starter? If we got a CF or 3B they'd almost certainly be a cheap, 1 year reclamation project and wouldn't require more then a couple of million. Stanton, Buck, and Coghlan. The Marlins are a better all around team today than they were yesterday. There is a reason Uggla's FMV was Infante and a LH RP. It would be naive to think otherwise. Really? John Buck makes us a better team today then Uggla did yesterday? You do know Buck's career numbers right? He does. C is far harder position to replace/improve upon. In Infante, if they do in fact use him as FT 2B, they have improved defensively. In a vacuum Infante/Buck > Uggla/Baker/Paulino and it isn't close.
  13. 2010 WAR Uggla 5.1 Paulino 1.1 Maybin .4 Buck 2.9 Infante 2.1 Whoever plays 3B/CF opposite CC needs a 1.6 Yes, I understand it is very rough math, but Uggla DID overachieve on BABIP and his defense isn't going to get better. Buck's numbers are better outside of Toronto lately and catchers usually come into their own older. Infante, has done this for two years and that is not asking for a lot. Not included in this, is the additional players we will sign with the money Uggla is not getting. Oh, and the multiple multiple relievers we have received who are all awesome. We don't live in a land of infinite payroll where we keep Uggla and add things around him. Big picture people. Our offense has lost nothing, our bullpen is better, and we have Nunez (and Paulino, Badenhop, and Veras if possible) to trade and $5 million more to spend. It would have been nice to also plop a good B+ or better SP prospect on top of Infante/Dunn (Dunn is awesome btw), but the Marlins did their due diligence. BIG PICTURE. I have -0- problems with Uggla, Maybin, and Miller trades, and the Buck free agency signing. We are a better team right now, than we were a week ago. AND WHO IS GOING TO REPLACE THE RBIS? Stanton, Buck, and Coghlan. The Marlins are a better all around team today than they were yesterday. There is a reason Uggla's FMV was Infante and a LH RP. It would be naive to think otherwise.

I have -0- problems with Uggla, Maybin, and Miller trades, and the Buck free agency signing. We are a better team right now, than we were a week ago. Absolutely correct imo. In so far as the team is more far more balanced. Defensively the IF has improved. The top of the order has also improved. People and teams tend to overvalue HR's and undervalue defense and lineup balance. In trading Uggla the team gave up one thing: Homeruns. Part of that loss was remedied in the Buck signing and the remainder will balance out in defense. The other aspect being completely dismissed, understandably, is the MASSIVE improvement to the Marlins BP. The overhaul has been significant and sweeping. With the FA' period just underway I am incredibly excited to see the end product.
  15. If it is true that Uggla did not budge from an impossible demand, then I still blame Beinfest. Uggla not really wanting to get a deal done is understandable considering how poorly this team has managed its talent. How do you figure?
  16. This is a substantial improvement for the Marlins.
  17. I'm not really shocked that Uggla's FMV was Infante and Dunn. From a homer's perspective Uggla is a top end 2B but in reality he is only coveted by a handful of teams.
  18. I'd recommend that we wait this entire offseason out. Let's see the final picture before we draw conclusions. This is a big offseason for the team and they are making some huge changes. You wouldn't judge a Picasso after 3 strokes.
  19. You gotta think the Marlins make a move for top end FA. Buck is a decent start.
  20. Horrible defense and pitching this inning.... I'm shocked
  21. Please don't make excuses for players who say they didn't know. it is getting lame. lmao of course they know
  22. I am not gonna live with a full year of Maybin if his production is gonna be similar to what is has been at the ML level. I'm fine with giving a long leash, say the AS break or a week or two after. However if he plays from opening day to the AS break k'ing every other AB, hitting weak grounders along with playing poor d then get him outta there. I agree with everything else. A solid #2 stating pitcher would be great. I think the Marlins need to eat Maybin for a whole year regardless of production. They are not in a position to do anything about it. Not to mention he is adequate to above average as a fielder. If you get RBI production from Morrison/Stanton/Hanley you can eat Maybin as your 8 hitter and truly find out if he is the future. Up and down/up and down/up and down hasn't and won't answered ANYTHING. Same for goes for Miller. You need to plug him into the rotation in September because as a reclamation project he isn't going to have a future w/ this franchise.
  23. I'm not watching the game live, so I can't tell what JJ looks like, but I'd argue that regardless we want to keep him to 90-100 pitches MAX from here on out. I think they have been trying to do something like that. Didn't they take him out last game when they probably shouldn't have, And he lost the W? I'm not happy he lost the win but I really want to see them be careful here. Skipping a start could do wonders. I'm also tired of Wes Helms. I know this well get hate but I'm just so tired of him. He is a great clubhouse guy but I'm tired of his 2-25. I'm tired of his mediocre glove at third. Just all around tired of our 3B situation.
