..with the way the Sox are crumbling down the stretch, there is a glimmer of hope that Ozzie could be the next man.

 

He has one more year left on his contract but with a relationship that has diminished with Williams, one or both, could likely be gone. Kenny Williams has been distancing himself from Ozzie.. which is more a sign of Williams fearing his own job. If Williams is fired, wouldn't a new GM likely want to bring in his own guy? Also, whispers of LaRussa to join with longtime friend Jerry Reinsdorf continue to be heard.

 

With the young core of players the fish have, the stadium on the horizon,his home being in Miami, it could be to good a situation to pass up. I believe he will ask, and be granted, permission to interview with the Marlins.

 

Some will say, if Loria didn't take Girardi's crap, why would he take Ozzies? Well, Ozzie calls em like he sees him. But he is not one to disparage the management and does get along very, very well with Owner Jerry Reinsdorf. The relationship with Williams has dissolved, but Williams is VERY hands on in the clubhouse, something I don't believe LB is... I could be wrong.

It is an indisputable fact that players LOVE playing for Ozzie Guillen. Even if Ozzie is unhappy with the way you are playing, he WILL call you out but players still love him. I think the relationship he would form with Hanley would be phenomenal. With the new stadium coming in, the buzz that Ozzie would cause would go a LONG way.

 

I think he would be the perfect fit and exactly what this team needs. I hope it happens.

There's no way in hell Loria hires him to manage. He couldn't even deal with Girardi, who is a pretty middle-of-the road manager as far as being outspoken. Meanwhile, Ozzie is at the top of the list. It'll never happen.

To me it seems like every time a person is mentioned, whether coach, player, etc., everyone mentions their FL residency like it makes so much sense for the person AND for the Marlins to hire that person. So I'm half joking when I put that statement in. Like people are giving the reason Girardi will go to Chicago because he once lived there and played there--as if it is THE deciding factor.

Girardi is a Cub at heart.. but cubs fans are quite delusional as far as thinking they can get anybody. I still think their smart move would be Ryno.

Getting people talking, I agree. I'm not 100% certain it would be the right talking. Some of the things Ozzie say are off base. I don't mind controversial, but off base is another thing.

Heck, forget Tony Pena for Manager, I want to see him behind the plate! Even at his advanced age, I bet you he can still call one hell of a game.

 

In all seriousness, I wouldn't mind seeing Edwin back. I was all caught up in the "sexy" choice of Valentine that I was let down when they named Edwin the interim manager for the rest of the year. However, I've been pleasantly surprised with the job he's done. And considering his tenure with the Fish in the minors and all of the young guys that have and will continue to be pulled up, I honestly think he's the right guy for the job. He's shown the right amount of "fire" and "passion" when necessary, and doesn't run his mouth for the sake of running his mouth (cue Ozzie). While this was the main reason I wanted Bobby a few months ago, the manager next year and going forward should be for the right reasons and not just because they are a "name" that will draw attention. The manager is not going to put butts in the seats, winning will; thus we need a manager that gives us the best opportunity to do so. Given a full offseason to prepare and completely healthy team, I believe Edwin can be that guy.

 

Tony would be a great second choice, however. There's a reason why former backstops make great managers. I do NOT want to see Ozzie back in teal, however.

I almost beg to differ. There have been games where things happening on the side of the field (this was football and basketball) where I watched a lot more closely than what was happening on the field with the players. I certainly wasn't going to miss those games because I thought something may happen.

 

There may have been a few who went to the last Nats games wondering if there would be a repeat performance with Nyjer. I agree long term it most probably won't happen.

 

But I do remember the sideshow of football went on for quite a few years and eventually it happened BIG TIME :whistle

edwin deserves a full chance. he has done a very solid job with the inconsistent team hes been given.

I'd love Ozzie but it's unrealistic. Loria loves control and it doesn't seem like Ozzie would be on board with that. He wants a fiery manager who will sleep at the foot of his bed at night and I wish him good luck finding that...

I wouldn't be surprised if Edwin returned next year for a second go... Perhaps a new manager in 2012, but 2011 will most likely be Edwin.

It all depends how the team finishes these last 18 games.

To be honest, if Edwin can have the team finish over .500 this season with the rotation the way it is right now, he deserves a chance next season.
