Posted August 20, 201014 yr http://nbcsports.msn...ts-player_news/ Thank god we are maybe getting John Baker back soon. It's official Florida Marlins catcher Ronny Paulino has received a 50-game suspension after testing positive for a performance-enhancing substance in violation of Major League Baseball’s Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program. The suspension of Paulino is effective immediately, beginning tonight, when the Marlins host the Houston Astros. “To control my weight this season, I used a dietary pill. Regretfully, I recently learned that the dietary pill contained a substance banned under Major League Baseball’s drug policy, Paulino said in a statement issued by the team. “I am ashamed and saddened for disappointing and distracting my family, my teammates, the entire Florida Marlins’ organization, and baseball fans. My heartfelt and most sincere apology. “I accept full responsibility and all consequences for this mistake and therefore, choose not to challenge my suspension. I was irresponsible for failing to take all precautionary steps in confirming the approval of the dietary pill. Without a doubt, I have learned from my mistake. This means the Marlins will go with the catching tandem of Brett Hayes and Brad Davis — two guys who spent most of the year in the minor leagues. Meanwhile, several reports say an unspecified National League team has claimed outfielder Cody Ross on waivers. This means the Marlins could be working a trade for Cody, but they also could be measuring the interest in him. http://blogs.palmbeachpost.com/marlins/2010/08/20/florida-marlins-light-on-catchers-after-ronny-paulino-suspended-50-games-for-ped/
August 20, 201014 yr Author I assume Brad Davis will be called up to back up Brett Hayes given we really have no other catcher in the minors to call up.
August 20, 201014 yr I'd probably want to be on PEDs too if I had to catch almost every day in the miami heat! but no i wouldnt.. thats too bad.
August 20, 201014 yr Ronny was taking dietary pills; apparently, the pill contained a substance banned by Major League Baseball.
August 20, 201014 yr Ugggh, what a putz. Look on the bright side - he'll get less money in arbitration now.
August 20, 201014 yr We paid Wes Helms $1,000,000 next year to be a clubhouse leader, only to find out that this is what happens in the clubhouse? :o It's alright, Ronny. Just comeback next year. Nicely done. Professional suspension!

Nicely done. Professional suspension! are you seriously trying to bring wes helms into this? if you dont like him thats 1 things but to go out of your way to in essence pick on him for something he didnt and wouldnt have anything to do with is kind of ridiculous. Is joe torre a bad leader becuase he didnt stop clemnens from taking steroids or had no idea he was doing it? dont be ridiculous. unless you were kidding, in which case i just wasted my time.

August 20, 201014 yr At least Shake 'n' Bake is reported to return soon. We've missed his lefty bat He was only hitting .218 when he got injured...
August 20, 201014 yr this gave us chance look at other catcher in team season is over so let see what we have most likely Ronny Paulino wont be with team at new ballpark
August 20, 201014 yr Can someone please explain something to me? Because maybe I'm stupid but all these athletes...don't they have trainers and doctors? Can you please tell me how they can just pick up a pill without saying "hmm maybe I should ask my doctor if it's ok for me to take this while I'm playing?" Or maybe "Hmm maybe I should check if it has anything banned by the MLB in it"??? What's with all these guys saying "Oh wow I didn't realize what I was taking had something banned in it until recently. Whatever. It's a dietary pill, though. Sometimes I question what should and shouldn't be banned from sports. Maybe we all believe these guys are robots or something? I don't think it's right to take something like steroids or something that would make the guy play better than the rest because that is cheating, but the question is how much does whatever he was taking really affect his game play anyway? Sucks though and very surprising news.
August 20, 201014 yr It's ridiculous that these players don't have a nutritionist or some kind of medical person going over the banned list and making sure any medications aren't interfering with this. I know other players have been suspended after some kind of ADHD medicine had a banned substance in it.

Baseball players always try to cover their asses by saying they "unknowingly took illegal substances," but they know damn well what they're taking.
August 20, 201014 yr Pretty surprising news. If he's being honest that it was something in his diet pills that got him suspended, then that's some bum luck there. But I agree that he should've had it looked at to make sure it didn't contain a banned substance. You have a lot of resources at your disposal as a ball player to have that checked out. Hurry back Baker
August 20, 201014 yr Please don't make excuses for players who say they didn't know. it is getting lame.
August 20, 201014 yr For once I just want a guy to come out and say "I did it so I could get better quicker." That person may end up becoming my favorite player whoever that may be.
August 20, 201014 yr I was about to be pretty furious - until I read what he was suspended for... Meh, sh*t happens but I doubt he was attempting to cheat.
August 20, 201014 yr Please don't make excuses for players who say they didn't know. it is getting lame. lmao of course they know
