August 21, 201016 yr The only guys on that list that are FA are Buck, Martinez, and Olivo (Who likely isn't seeing FA), and Paulino comes a lot cheaper Even though it probably wouldn't happen, wouldn't it be ironic to get Olivo back?? :whistle

August 21, 201016 yr As I pointed out at the break, Olivo has terrible home/road splits, and they've gotten even worse. He's OPSing .572 away from Coors. And he's still leading MLB in passed balls. It seems like a lot of people like to pretend otherwise, but he's still not a better player than he was with the Marlins.

August 21, 201016 yr Hmmm anyone else think that to this point the Marlins have done a really good job at not getting caught with PEDs? Any of the Marlins who have been caught have been former Marlins... Didn't Paul LoDuca get named in Mitchell Report and most probably his usage occurred during the Marlin years but he wasn't suspended? Or am I remembering it wrong?
August 21, 201016 yr There is a difference between having a 25 man roster suspended and having former players mentioned in the Mitchell report. In either case, I don't think that the Marlins are better or worse than most teams are. Former Marlins named in the Mitchell report include Ricky Bones, Josias Manzanillo, Gregg Zaun, Ron Villone, Paul Lo Duca, Kevin Brown, Matt Herges, and Brendan Donnelly. Sheffield and Benito Santiago are admitted users; Tony Saunders, Ismael Valdez, and Pudge are implicated. Felix Heredia, Henry Owens, Guillermo Mota, Sergio Mitre, and Ryan Jorgensen were suspended. The problem with most of these names is that it's difficult to know exactly what seasons they were using them. And if you want to consider how well the Marlins have done in terms of suspensions...how many other MLB teams have had a 25-man roster player suspended for PEDs? I would guess very few and even less have had it happen more than once.
August 21, 201016 yr At least Shake 'n' Bake is reported to return soon. We've missed his lefty bat He was only hitting .218 when he got injured... That is true but would be nice to have more than 1 lefty in the lineup regularly (previously Coghlan, now Morrison)

No you're right, I'm just saying it's been fortunate for the Marlins that they've been really good at not getting caught. As Marlins. Lo Duca wasnt a Marlin when the Mitchell Report was released. Paulino is the first to be caught and suspended as a Marlin, everyone else has gotten away.

August 21, 201016 yr Lol look what I found from that link ""My mother always taught me that if the only thing you have to say is, '(Expletive) Dave Samson,' then don't say anything at all. So I'm not going to say anything at all. Is my mother the greatest or what?" - Mariners GM Bill Bavasi, after signing Ichiro to a $90 million contract" That guy ended up getting fired for being a terrible GM.

You genuinely think that there are not players right now on our roster using some form of PEDs? I would make the case that there is one, if not more, player on each team currently taking PEDs. And over the past few years since the Mitchell Report I'm sure there have been at least 10 Marlins who have used PEDs to this point. There was that produced list, Im too lazy to quote it. None of them were ever caught/revealed as Marlins.
August 21, 201016 yr Pudge was totally juiced up during that 2003 season. Im not denying it. Im just saying, (which I dont know if you were responding to me or someone else) that they do a good job at not getting caught - as Marlins. Ronnie is the first.
August 21, 201016 yr Author I'm responding to Rab. I would be willing to bet that since that 2003 season there have been more than 20 Marlins players who took PED's or HGH but weren't caught. There are many players that know how to work around the system.
August 22, 201016 yr Word on the street is that Gaby was juicing at the U. He did. He was suspended his Senior Year for it to.
August 22, 201016 yr Word on the street is that Gaby was juicing at the U. He did. He was suspended his Senior Year for it to. If I'm not mistaken, the reason for his suspension was never formally announced, but one could easily do the math.
August 22, 201016 yr Word on the street is that Gaby was juicing at the U. This is only further evidence that steroid usage is pretty common.

People were caught, there was random drug testing (remember A-Rod and Ortiz?), but there was no penalty at the time. And, not an actual Dr.Beinfest, I have no reason to just assume 10 Marlins since the Mitchell Report have done PEDs and neither do you.
August 22, 201016 yr Except, for a second time, only V-Mart and Buck are FAs (Olivo could be a FA but he has an option that'll very likely be picked up). Hell, two of those players (Marson and Cervelli) are rookies this year... From what I see, Martinez, Kendall, Buck, Shoppach are all FAs next year and Olivo could be one. Where are you looking? http://mlbcontracts.blogspot.com/ Kendall, '11: 3.75m Shoppach, '11: 3m And considering the chances of Olivo's option not being picked up is incredibly slim, you're looking at two guys who will make WAY more than Paulino will. I was on RotoWorld. Guess thats a bit of a better source. I guess you can scratch the "available now" part out of my original reply to Erick but the point stands: other guys do what Paulino does and he is replaceable. Just not in this FA market. So then, not what you said. "He's easily replaceable! Just, you know, not now..." He's not easily replaceable. You all just keep talking FAs. I think if another catcher is brought in it will be via trade. We have tradeable players, and despite what some may think, we will have the extra cash. Some of that cash needs to be spent on pitching, but if your position players can't catch and throw it really dosen't matter how good your pitching staff is.

If Uggla is on something, he's been on it for about 10 years. His built is nearly the same from his Dbacks minor league rookie card. Course...I love Uggla and Vlad so much I wouldnt get upset if they are doing something...they should just think about life after ball.

If you think they are catching everyone, you're sorely mistaken.
