There's a very easy system they can use (I don't know how MLB handles it): 1) You hand over a list of banned substances to the player (I'm sure they do this) and 2) You enforce a rule that each player must go by: "If you think of taking *anything*, check to find out if it contains a banned substance before you take it by a doctor."

 

Simple as that. So when a guy gets busted, they are just being ridiculously stupid by saying "oh I didn't know.." So I agree with Iowa..just admit the truth

Well I agree, I'd like to know what it was also because *if* it was a dietary pill, I'd like to know what could possibly be in a dietary pill that would make him better than other players to the point where you'd want it banned. I mean, why else ban a substance?

Aw, c'mon.

 

Most of these guys aren't very bright, but they are professional athletes and at least have some understanding of the risks and rewards.

 

Dumb as most of them will claim to be (never mind willful ignorance) one thing is a certainty. They all know more or less which drugs they are taking, all lame disclaimers to the contrary notwithstanding.

 

Funny that it should happen on the same day Clemens was indicted for lying to Congress about steroids and HGH.

Diet pills ? C'mon, he knows that MLb won't disclose the drug so he can be using this as a conveinent excuse. Don't believe everything these players say to the media. Does anyone really believe Clemens ? They have the same credibility with me right now.

Just because a substance is on the banned list doesn't mean it's a PED. Many of the substances that are banned are masking agents, which makes steroid detection more difficult. Of course, if it's a dietary pill, there could have been some kind of stimulant-type substance as well.

 

The timing of this is suspect to me. I don't know the time frame when he was tested, re-tested and notified of the failure, but you have to figure it all happened AFTER he inherited the daily catching duties after being a backup for almost 2 years. IT's not a strecth of the imagination to think he had tons of aches, pains and wear are tear on his body from the daily cathcing grind his body wasn't used to; remember, most of those that admitted to PED use stated it was so they could recover from injuries quicker, not so they could bulk up and hit more HR's....

I just wanna know what substance he got the suspension for.

With a lot of those guys, the few points you sacrifice off of Paulino's OPS you get back in defense and baserunning speed seeing as how Paulino is one of the slowest guys in the league. He's lucky he hits lefties like he does because if he didn't, he'd be virtually useless.

 

And I know we're not getting Martinez. I just wanted the list to be complete.
