  1. Make him wear a humiliating number and I'm in. Say 69 or 86..... :lol
  2. Contrary to what the Loria-haters claim, since the new stadium became a reality he's spent big bucks locking-up Hanley and JJ for $109 million. That ain't chopped liver. Big deal, $ 109 million. Most teams have twice or more sewn up in future contracts. You think that should forgive all of Loria's sins of the past 7 years ? That should forgive his shopping the franchise to San Antonio & Las Vegas ?
  3. He will be spending more money once he is able to make any money from stadium revenues. Exactly. He tried it before, speculating on increased stadium revenue in '05 with Delgado. Didn't work. Fans didn't show. Retrench out of necessity. Contrary to what the Loria-haters claim, since the new stadium became a reality he's spent big bucks locking-up Hanley and JJ for $109 million. That ain't chopped liver. Although he failed to get the idiotic Uggla to accept big bucks, we will now spend them better elsewhere. He's looking to sign Nolasco for 3 years and spent $18 million on 3 years of Buck because he had to. If he was willing to stick his neck out in '05 on Delgado with no stadium in prospect to try to keep winning, isn't there clearly a very high possibility he will now do so again, now that the new stadium is a certainty? Nobody should be surprised if the evil and hated Loria shocks us with one or more major deals or signings for more than one year as we go down the path to a new stadium and being a club that can spend a league-average $80 million or so a year in the future. I think it's pretty much a given at this point that Loria is looking to make a big splash next offseason. But because of his reputation, does he have to now OVERPAY to get anyone to come here. His reputation again took a hit this week, after Uggla said to the world, I'd rather play for anyone else than take that deal from the Marlins.
  4. He really loves baseball, and he has a lot of knowledge about his team. I can respect that. Maybe it would be better if he didn't know a lot about Baseball? He might spend more money instead of trying to micromanage? Maybe he'd spend more money if fans actually showed up to the stadium, on a consistent basis. I don't think they still make any real money, no matter how many show up, because of the onerous rent they pay & the lack of parking & concession money. They have to get into that new stadium. Once they get there, Loria has no excuses, and if he still is only spending around 60% of the league average, then we should all have a problem with him.
  5. I think they had to overpay somewhat to get a guy to come here number one This unfortunately will be our misfortune until this present ownership is gone. Too bad because this could be such a great franchise, but we will always have to beg people to come here until they are gone because they have such a horrible reputation among the players.
  6. I wouldn't because Stanton has 2 more cheap years and is 2 years younger. Talent-wise, though, it's darn close from what I've seen. They are like two of the TOP 5 most naturally talented in all of baseball. To have both on the same team would be insane. Like having two Heywards. Well we could of had that, but we took Skipworth instead. :confused Think of it, even if Heywood wouldn't have signed with us, we would have gotten another draft pick to make up for it, and would have blocked the Braves from getting their prize possession.
  7. and no one else caught that the Red Sox viewed Buck as a backup and not a starter ??? Why do we always have to settle for 2nds ? No wonder we haven't won anything since 2003.
  8. Wow...1 draft. sh*t happens, no GM is perfect. He could have drafted Jayson Heyward to in 2007 and then our CF problem would have been solved. Instead we got Matt Dominguez who may or may not be able to hit MLB pitching. Our CF problem would be solved because we would have two RFers, even though they probably would not have drafted Stanton in the 2nd round of that draft so we'd be in precisely the same place except without Matt Dominguez? Even if Dominguez can't put up more than a .700 OPS, his glove is so good that he'll be a league average player. You really don't know what you're talking about. You hope his defense is that good. But right now you don't know jack about it yourself, because its a mystery. He has yet to field a ball as a MLBer. If he had drafted both Stanton and Heyward, he could convert one to a CF or let them compete and then the one that loses out for the MLB job gets traded for a boatload. He didn't come close to maximizing his value there.
  9. The following year he drafted Matt Dominguez and Mike Stanton, so he is the best GM in the history of baseball. in 2007 he took Dominguez 12th and JP Arencibia went 21st to Toronto. Lets face it, Beinfest crystal ball needs to be polished because he is not seeing as well as a lot of other FO folks.
  10. How sick of a lineup would it be to have Coghlan, Sanchez, Uggla, Stanton, Heyward and then Morrison lineup ? Even Halladay would hate to face that lineup.

  12. Another draft bust for Beinfest. All Beinfest drafted team right now: C: Brett Hayes, Brad Davis 1B: Gaby Sanchez 2B: Chris Coghlan SS: Ozzie Martinez 3B: Matt Dominguez LF: Logan Morrison CF: Scott Cousins RF: Mike Stanton SP: JJ, Volstad, Sanabia, Sean West RP: Ceda, Marinez, whatever Guys we passed on in the 1st round : Yonder Alonso (drafted right after Skipworth), Gordan Beckham, Justin Smoak, Ike Davis, Daniel Schlereth (son of the former NFL all-pro and present ESPN analyst), and those are just the names of ones I know. Most have played in the majors already and are contributing to their franchises. Skipworth is going to be in AA ? And is a terrible fielder......and we need catching help. Yeah great work Beinfest. :banghead Just think any one of those guys would be trade bait for a pretty good catching prospect.
  13. if i remember correctly isn't Coughlan a 2B, Morrison a 1B and Dominguez a 3B so we should let them take over their natural positions and trade Sanchez and (i really hate to say it) Uggla for as much "pitching, speed and defense" as possible. If Skipworth isn't ready then a catcher too. Uggla is the soul of this team but a silly contract will hurt this team as much or more than these stupid trades the FO has been making (Boni for Olsen and Hammer and Miggy to Det). When does the confidence run out on Beinfest?? He's becoming a deteriment to this team as well/ OMG  I feel for you bro. There are going to be some on this board that will want you hog-tied, quartered, flogged, burned at the stake and then what's left sent though a meat grinder for saying this. Don't you know its against the law around here not to worship the ground Beinfest walks on ? All Beinfest drafted team right now: C: Brett Hayes, Brad Davis 1B: Gaby Sanchez 2B: Chris Coghlan SS: Ozzie Martinez 3B: Matt Dominguez LF: Logan Morrison CF: Scott Cousins RF: Mike Stanton SP: JJ, Volstad, Sanabia, Sean West RP: Ceda, Marinez, whatever That team is maybe not the worst team in baseball, and that's just with the guys he's drafted. He's missed on the Cabrera trade and the Willingham trade, but as has been discussed hundreds of times, Willingham's value was really low. He's killed the minor league FA and non-roster invitees over the last few years with guys like Uggla, Cantu, Ross, and some of the relievers like Nelson, Waechter, and those types of guys. You've been hammering this home over the last few weeks, but there's really no evidence. He's got some good trades (destroyed the Cubs on the Pierre trade), some trades for good value for good value (Hanley), and he's missed some. but more than not, he's been a positive for this franchise. How many division titles have his draft picks won ? How many playoff games ? Sure seems the chief FO guys on other teams can do it. Schuerholtz in Atlanta is one great example of how to build a team. They finished behind the Marlins 2 years in a row, and completely changed their team and won a playoff spot this year.

  15. Another draft bust for Beinfest. Can this guy play any other position ? Do we have a place for him ? I know I will regret it, but curiosity will kill me if I don't check out baseball-reference and see who we passed up in the 1st round to take this bum.
  16. Mujica had a .272 OBP-against on the road. At first glance, it just looks like he got unlucky with some XBH. Mujica coudl be very good, in my opinion. Webb is probably an average reliever, but he's nice and young and club-controlled. I don't like Mujica that much. He flamed out towards the end of the year when they needed him the most. And reading comments from Padres fans, they said he'd be more suited in low pressure situations. What's more low pressure than the Marlins ???? 5,000 fans a night and no coverage on ESPN or MLB Network. :whistle
  17. Perhaps they're looking for bullpen help? I'm kind of hesitant to do anything to Maybin because his value can't possibly go down much more and there's still a big chance of him improving. Either they're confident they'll keep Uggla (and therefore not get the arms they want from a trade) or they're reluctant to trade someone like Gaby Sanchez,, whose ceiling is lower than Maybin but is at the moment performing better. Upside ???? I am gonna go off on a rant........(probably to be knocked down by some here - but I don't give a crap) I always see this term used to either prop up a guy who is failing, or used against a guy that is performing well. Who the hell decides who is what and where ? Some scout who sees them playing against nobodies ???? Just because so and so says they are worthy doesn't mean crap. I use my eyes and I see a Maybin that has shown nothing to me of being a clutch big league player. Then I see Gaby Sanchez and he meets the eye test. He hit his butt off last year, and his defense improved (or at least it seemed it did) during the season. If I am putting together a team some guys just seem to get it and some don't. We have been waiting for Maybin to "get it" for three years now. We waited for Hermida "to get it" and he never did. Again all these amatuer experts on this board said "but Hermida will breakout, just wait and see". Well this is another scenario with Maybin that I see developing. From what I saw last year, Gaby has the goods to play at least decent in the big leagues and Maybin is still out there....a real Hermida-esque unkown. I see a lot of guys on here do the same with Uggla, they just as well throw him away with the bathwater. Dudes, he has been damn good for this club for 5 years, and is not just as easily replaceable as you may think. He owns that clubhouse. Not Uncle Wes, its Uggla. You can tell how those guys respect and look up to him, and react to him. If you can't see that you are blind. You take him away from this team and they will be lost for a while, I believe. There will be a vacumn. Someone will step up for sure, but how long will it take ? Who knows, but Uggla is just not a throwaway player. There......(big sigh) I feel better now. :thumbup I love how you were raging at a word I didn't even use lol. Some people just have more potential than others. The 'eye test' doesn't take into consideration things that the eye can't see, which is why scouts aren't hired to perform 'the eye test.' Seeing Maybin's minor league numbers, it's pretty obvious that he has abilities that right now are untapped. Whether or not they come out is yet to be seen, but I'm not ready to call him Jeremy Hermida just yet. And if Alex Gordon is in the same boat as Maybin, why would be trade an outfielder for a 27 year old 3B that we'll have to end up converting to an outfielder anyways (if he ever does find his stuff) EDIT: Wow @ the update. Well it seems that Maybin flopped the Marlins FO eye test and I guess they are the only ones that really count. :shifty
  18. He's still a 23-year-old with All-Star upside. I'm going to vomit if we get a JAG bullpen arm. There's that word again ! :banghead Damn it, three years here and he never showed squat. Just give it up, please !
  19. Looking at Gordon's minor league numbers, and then looking at his major league numbers and you would swear they were two completely different players. I mean Gordon has never had an OBP below .427 and has OPS'ed over 1.000 every season (with more than 30 games played). Gordon can still be an absolute monster in the majors if he figures it out, and he should. He was also one hell of a college player at Nebraska. One of the best I have ever seen. I saw too much of him when he played my Miami Hurricanes in a Super Regional back in like 2004 or 2005.

  21. As being reported on MLB Network and in this article : http://espn.go.com/b...eading-to-third As of now, the Marlins plan on converting Coghlan from left field to third base. A natural infielder, Coghlan was switched to left field in May 2009 to get his bat in the lineup. The move paid off as he hit .321 and won the NL Rookie of the Year honors. In 2010, Coghlan was limited to 91 games and was hitting .268 when he suffered his season-ending injury on July 25. Coghlan damaged his meniscus during a postgame celebration when he landed awkwardly on his knee after smearing a shaving-cream-covered towel into the face of Wes Helms, who delivered a walk-off hit. When he is cleared to do baseball activities, Coghlan will focus on switching to third base. For now, his primary focus is being completely healthy. "They told me third base, and I haven't heard otherwise," Coghlan said of where he expects to play next season. "There are a lot of things that can still happen. You never know. But as of right now, the tentative plan is third base.
  22. Let it go I can't just yet, it really p*sses me off. That was just a nightmare of a trade.
