Goodbye Andrew Miller!

That being said, I'm sorry that Miller didn't work out here and I hope he can find some form of success with the Red Sox.

From looking at his minor league stats, he has a high strikeout rate and a really high walk rate. But whatever.. if this guy turns out to be any type of contributor, ill be happy

Marlins acquired LHP Dustin Richardson from the Red Sox in exchange for LHP Andrew Miller.

We can't really blame the Marlins for deciding to give up on Miller, but they've acquired another southpaw with control problems. Richardson boasts a 3.31 ERA over 16 1/3 innings for the Red Sox over the last two seasons, but he has walked nearly a batter per inning and has a WHIP over 2.00. He's consistently posted high strikeout rates in the minors but will need to cut down on the free passes if he hopes to nail down a late-inning role in Florida.

Well...here's a look back at how the Cabrera trade has turned out...

Andrew Miller: Poor Marlins career, traded for Dustin Richardson

Cameron Maybin: Career OPS under .700, not a bust, but still has a lot to prove

Eulogio De La Cruz: One start with Marlins, now with Tokyo Yakult Swallows

Dallas Trahern: Minor league career filled with a long injury history.

Burke Badenhop: Best player in this trade. Nice middle/long reliever. Sometimes spot starts.

Mike Rabelo: Started a few games with Marlins, was released and is now a free agent.

Sad, oh so sad.

That was a pathetic trade with the Tigers. I laugh at all the guys on here that try to defend it as they are the same guys that wanted to trade Uggla last spring.

At least we got something for Miller. Whether Richardson is any use, we will have to wait and see. Does anyone have any splits on him?

As much as I was frustrated with Miller (and ultimately the Cabrera trade but I don't want that to be discussed at length AGAIN) I always rooted for him to turn it around and show his potential. I was all for the random call-up last season to give him another shot, just in case. Maybe a change of scenery will help him a bit, but it was a shame he couldn't be that lefty ace/#2 that we hoped for.

Yes, we all know what a horrible trade that Cabrera one was. I'm waiting for the day when we can just forget about it and move on already. I get so tired reading posts about how stupid the trade was.

Looking at his splits in the minor leagues this year, Richardson held lefties to a .237 batting average, with 28 K's in 16 innings. (maybe someone knows some more about him...would be nice)

I'll take him over Andrew "I even suck in the minor leagues" Miller. Richardson is the best left-handed bullpen arm in the organization, right now. Not saying that's something to be happy about, but he does have some positives about him.

The main thing he has to do is get the walks down. He's a power lefty. This is a pretty good return for Andrew Miller, who just flat out sucks.

Not to mention it saves us a couple million as well

He had 12 BBs in 16 IP against LHP. That's miller-esque.

This was more or less expected. Andrew Miller was given chances here and he just didn't work out. Good luck to him though with the Red Sox.

I'm sure the Tigers still laugh their butts off about the fact that this team once thought Mike Rabelo could be a starting catcher. To me, it wasn't the high profile prospects that failed that really sum up this trade. The reasons why they might fail were evident, but they were still at least top prospects. The real futility is the fact that we tried to attach any kind of value at all to a guy who was no good before he came to us, and hasn't been worth one major league at bat since he left our team.

Is it funny because they also thought he could be a starting catcher?

Yeah, I know. The 28 K's are impressive, though.

He actually held righties to a .144 batting average.

It could be that we just traded Andrew Miller for Andrew Miller. However, at least there are some positives about this guy. Andrew Miller just reached the point of constantly regressing/he really sucks right now, no matter how you look at it.

To not even get one good MLB player in that deal is just inexcusable. Others can make excuses for Beinfest, but to me he'll always be the guy that screwed our 2010 & 2011 seasons because he failed in that trade. Just think if he had come away with one good pitcher, we have had 5 or 6 more wins last year, and maybe been in the WC race to the end, and with that incintive you never know what the guys might have been able to pull off.

and yet some here still think Beinfest walks on water...... Whatever :banghead

I need my head examined then. 2 top-level prospects, 2 bullpen-arm prospects, and a throw in were returned for 1 superstar, Unless Maybin really comes on, this trade has to be considered a total bust, but only hindsight lets us mock this trade. I liked the 2 LA teams packages better at the time and it appears that the LAD trade may have worked out better, but lets not pretend that Miller and Maybin weren't considered top guys to get. These were top ten picks in the 2005 and 2006 MLB drafts after all.
