Andrew Miller: Poor Marlins career, traded for Dustin Richardson Cameron Maybin: Career OPS under .700, not a bust, but still has a lot to prove Eulogio De La Cruz: One start with Marlins, now with Tokyo Yakult Swallows Dallas Trahern: Minor league career filled with a long injury history. Burke Badenhop: Best player in this trade. Nice middle/long reliever. Sometimes spot starts. Mike Rabelo: Started a few games with Marlins, was released and is now a free agent. Sad, oh so sad. I'm sure the Tigers still laugh their butts off about the fact that this team once thought Mike Rabelo could be a starting catcher. To me, it wasn't the high profile prospects that failed that really sum up this trade. The reasons why they might fail were evident, but they were still at least top prospects. The real futility is the fact that we tried to attach any kind of value at all to a guy who was no good before he came to us, and hasn't been worth one major league at bat since he left our team. Is it funny because they also thought he could be a starting catcher? and yet some here still think Beinfest walks on water......:blink: Whatever :banghead

That was a pathetic trade with the Tigers. I laugh at all the guys on here that try to defend it as they are the same guys that wanted to trade Uggla last spring. Anyone that defends that trade needs to have their head examined.

To not even get one good MLB player in that deal is just inexcusable. Others can make excuses for Beinfest, but to me he'll always be the guy that screwed our 2010 & 2011 seasons because he failed in that trade. Just think if he had come away with one good pitcher, we have had 5 or 6 more wins last year, and maybe been in the WC race to the end, and with that incintive you never know what the guys might have been able to pull off.

It wouldn't make much sense unless th Marlins are looking to recklessly spend. Isn't Napoli a nontender candidate? Wed be better off spending on him. and besides that, he is a Ft. Lauderdale kid. So it would be a homecoming for him.

I'd rather just insert someone who can play defense. Its time to start helping the pitching staff with building a better defensive core. This. I have to agree, and with signing Perry Hill, maybe this will be the year we get a lot better.

But saying that, I think Uggla is being foolish and should take that 4/48 and run.

I agree with Watertown. Coghlan has had trouble staying in the lineup. That loss of power will hurt our offense more than some here realize. We lose his 100 RBI's we had best replace them somehow. I just don't see Coghlan as a 100 RBI guy. Higher batting average doesn't always mean more RBI's. And you win games by scoring RBI's not with higher batting averages.

He works for Miami-Dade County and has related to me some things we may have already suspected or known, but confirms them. 1) that MLB sent Dupuy here to get the negotiations started again after they stalled (over money of course) 2) Dupuy told the Marlins ownership that after he got things back on track, if they went off track again, MLB would withdraw its support for the new stadium, and would let this ownership sink or swim without a new stadium. 3) they would not be helped, but hindered by MLB if they wanted to relocate the franchise. MLB wants a team in So. Fla, and badly. 4) that if the stadium deal did not go through, that MLB would not stand and help the Marlins fight MLBPA if they tried to get the Marlins to spend more on their payroll. Its not breaking news, but more or less I guess confirms a lot of what we already know.

So basically if Ohman leaves we lose that trade aswell. I mean Ohman isn't someone I'd mind losing since he's aging and had some nagging injuries last year but we gave away RVH for nothing then. I want to keep Tracy, he's a good lefty bat and can still play good defense at 3rd. Yeah, basically gave away RVH for a 3 month rental. Yet another brilliant move by Beinfest. Yet some on here will scream that Beinfest walks on water. I have yet to see a deal he's made since the Hanley deal that we have clearly won.

With all the complaints about Uggla's defense, it is worth noting that any replacement from within the Marlin's system will bring with him a worse glove than Uggla's. Except for Ozzy maybe. I thought Cogs was a super-duper defensive guy ? If not then we'd be crazy to take Uggla's bat out of our lineup. We would not get near the runs we do now.

After the last few trades do you really trust Beinfest's judgement in getting value for Uggla ? I know I don't, and we can't afford to get nothing in return like in the Cabrera trade. Missing on that trade probably cost us a playoff spot the last two years. We get even a 10 or 11 game winner out of Miller and we would have been right there last two years.

Well it might be if Loria is thinking ahead and doesn't want another Cabrera money situation on his hands. You know how he hates to have personnel that doesn't outperform its contract. He will be forced by public pressure and maybe by Stanton's agent to "take care of" Mike in several years. Which you know is not something that Loria likes to do. He only did the JJ contract this year because of MLB & MLBPA pressure.

This could be their stealth search for a manager. :lolup

In a way I feel that Freddi used us. He knew he'd be the next man in Atlanta, and like fools we just gave him his 3½ years of experience. Our next hire has to be someone committed to be the Marlins manager longterm, not a Freddi or Girardi who have their eyes and hearts elsewhere.

Hmmmm, sounds like the stadium is more of a priority than the team. Its what I have thought all along, they could care less about the product on the field, its all about selling tickets for 2012. No foresight about 2013, or 2014, etc....

I think they'll eventually work it out. What I'm really worried about is Uggla I'm really starting to believe the story that Ross has asked Uggla to play for the Marlins one more year and then join him at SF. I wonder if Ross will be at SF after this year though. Does he have a signed contract beyond this year ? Isn't he on the arbitration deal with next year his 6th year ?

Sandberg would be fantastic......except........the same old problem would come up when Quade is fired in Chicago. (And you know its inevitable to happen LOL) Marlins have manager that has heart that belongs to another franchise. Girardi = Yankees & Cubs, Freddi = Braves and it would be Sandberg = Cubs. Why not get Conine into Single A as mgr and bring him up and then we have our own guy whose ties would be to the Marlins ?

I thought they wanted a successful manager to lead the strong core of players we have into the new stadium in 2012....... If he is hired, its more evidence that Loria is not interested in winning. He seems to be bound and determined to drive every existing fan and all future fans off from this franchise. Its not without reason that most of MLB considers the Marlins ownership & franchise a joke.

After a player gets outrighted once, he then has the choice of accepting the minor league assignment, or become a free agent. He chose free agency. That also doesn't mean that he won't be a Marlin. But its not 100% he WILL be a Marlin. I like those odds better.

actually I think Helsm would be better as a player/manager than Bo as just manager. Porter's 3rd base tenure didn't exactly fill me with confidence in him. Didn't we let him go ? Or did he find greener pastuers in AZ and a promotion there ?
