Posted October 16, 201014 yr Not sure if a thread already exists (if one does already, please delete this), but I guess we should have one place to talk about facts, rumors, thoughts, opinions on the hiring process of the new manager. I just read on mlbtraderumors.com that Bo Porter is a favorite of some officials. :thumbdown I hope they are kidding. I want a manager who has experience getting a team to the playoffs already

October 16, 201014 yr I believe Bo Porter didn't know when to send or not send runners from third base. Not a very good trait of a manager :thumbdown
October 16, 201014 yr Guys and gals, for all we know Bo Porter could be a brilliant baseball man who just lacks a little bit of...well...judgment.
October 16, 201014 yr If Bo Porter becomes manager, then this team loses every ounce of credibility and respect froma lot of people. I wouldn't know what to do with myself. The BIGGEST hype killer for me would be that. No f***ing lie. Hell, 2 years ago if you'd have asked me what would be the thing that would most kill my hype for the new stadium, I'd have joked about Bo Porter being the manager. PLEASE NO
October 16, 201014 yr did Bo Porter even know he was the third base coach when he was here? Ah, right. Rumor had it he was pimping the crowd so he was too busy to coach/watch what he should have been doing.
October 16, 201014 yr Bo Porter is by far the worse 3rd base Coach the Marlins have ever had and the organization is gonna reward him by promoting him?...I Think Not!
October 16, 201014 yr Hiring Bo Porter would be fun just for the simple fact that this current team lacks a Jeremy Hermida or Renyel Pinto kind of person who we can constantly complain about on these boards. This message board has just lost its fun since we started agreeing on most matters

October 16, 201014 yr We're playing Wes Helms 1 million dollars; considering he sucks as a player, the least he could do is be a player-manager.
October 16, 201014 yr actually I think Helsm would be better as a player/manager than Bo as just manager. Porter's 3rd base tenure didn't exactly fill me with confidence in him. Didn't we let him go ? Or did he find greener pastuers in AZ and a promotion there ?
October 17, 201014 yr Everyone is overlooking the obvious best choice: Billy the Marlin. He has a multitude of advantages and factors in his favor: 1) The fans all love him. 2) The players all love him. 3) He never bad-mouths players or ownership in the press. 4) He has thousands of games of experience, Marlins experience. 5) He knows all the Marlins, and the opposition, too. 6) He's the strong, silent type, a natural leader, while also being a bundle of energy who never sits down. 7) He can jump on the visitors' dugout during a game, annoying them greatly without being ejected. 8) He never wears uniform pants, saving on laundry costs. 9) His spear-like snout would be a tremendous natural advantage in bench-clearing brawls. 10) He's smarter than Bo Porter. 11) He works cheap. Really cheap. Probably something like $10/hour, plus all the mackerel and squid he can eat. I rest my case.

October 18, 201014 yr Ugh. Word out of South Florida is that Bo Porter has emerged as the favorite to land the Marlins' managing job. There are no indications an offer has been made, but MLB.com reports it has at least reached the point where the ultra-prepared Porter is sounding out potential coaching candidates. A former Marlins coach who spent 2010 on the Diamondbacks' staff, Porter is obviously held in high regard in Miami, and it wouldn't be a surprise to see him end up getting the job. Read the whole depressing thing: http://mlb.fanhouse....nd-marlins-job/ I hope they're wrong. The MLB.com stuff is Frisaro, so who knows...

October 18, 201014 yr What was his nickname? Bo "Windmill" Porter or something like that? You are right. The "fans" nicknamed him that because no matter what happened in the field, he waived to home anyone who was passing third base.
October 18, 201014 yr I went back in the forum and in November 2009 there was a forum thread/Sun Sentinel article link regarding Bo Porter not taking the offered contract extension. At that time the forum was mostly erupting in happiness :confused
October 18, 201014 yr If the FO is not going to put money into signing and/or keeping players, could they please splurge on a name manager? I really don't care if they've proven they can't win anywhere e.g. Macha, Randolph, Baylor! Do anything but hire Bo Porter! Bring back Lach, promote Cookie, hire Terry Hillman?!? before you hire Bo, because Bo don't know!
