I agree he would be the natural Marlins manager, because we haven't really been around long enough or kept anyone long enough for that title. As far as Girardi, his heart would be with the Cubs but he chose the Yankees. Fredi has worked in the Marlins organization for as long as he's worked with the Braves, so that really doesn't matter and Sandberg was a Cubs legend - yea - but look at Joe Torre. He played most of his career for the Braves but you associate him more with the Yankees than anything. Those kinds of associations are owned and there's no reason why Sandberg couldn't be THE marlins manager in 10 or so years if we sign him now and keep him for that long.

And even with all the gripping from the Yankee fans about him using stats to make decisions, I would think it was a foregone conclusion that Girardi would be back. Obviously he didn't want to Cubs job (or Cubs didn't want them but you would think with history they would). He certainly can handle the pressure there, and I can't imagine a lot of managers being able to do that.
