By signing a split contract, the player does not have to be added to the 40 man roster, but in the majors he will make more then the minimum. So for the Marlins, this clear a roster spot for the offseason. For Murphy, he makes more money while he's in the majors.

October 22, 201015 yr That's nice, assuming the unannounced dollar amounts aren't too much. I guess I feel it all comes down to if he's able to have the impact he did in his short amount of time last season. Either way, I like Smurphy and the way he took that Gaby pie to the face!!!
