According to Ricky's agent on MLBtraderumors, Marlins and Ricky have agreed on the length of the extension (I'm asusming 3 yrs, his ifnal of arbitration and first 2 of FA) but are about 20% apart on the $'s. To me, this is very encouraging as 20% is not a big bridge to gulf; I mean, they could split the difference and both come out winners. Get this done.

The Marlins need to stand firm on the money, since I'm concerned about his health in the long-run.

Why his health?

Ricky has two years of Arbitration left before getting to FA in 2013.

Yes, the Marlins FO HAS to quit overpaying for players.

It was probably either sarcasm or his 81st troll post.

I think they'll eventually work it out. What I'm really worried about is Uggla

I'm really starting to believe the story that Ross has asked Uggla to play for the Marlins one more year and then join him at SF. I wonder if Ross will be at SF after this year though. Does he have a signed contract beyond this year ? Isn't he on the arbitration deal with next year his 6th year ?

I agree and also based on him being inconsistent.

My guess is the Marlins want to average $7 million per year, and Nolasco $8.5-9.

I think he is a steal under $20 million, good $20-24, and a terrible deal over $25. I'm sure the Marlins are fighting hard in that $20-24 range and trying to make it all performance incentives instead of guaranteed. I'd be pretty surprised if they agree to a 4 year contract with his health concerns, but you can scale up each of those numbers to $30, 30-34, and 35+, if it were a 4 year deal. Very rough, but just saying.

I think I actually meant to say that he's been too inconsistent to throw more than 3 years and maybe $20-25 million at. With Josh Johnson it was a no-brainer, and he has surpassed the value of his contract already thanks to his career year in 2010.

I'm sure he'll be somewhere after winning the NCLS MVP award

I'd rather just take him to arbitration, let him have a similar season to what he had this year, and prove to him that he doesnt deserve what he's asking for.

Probably in SF for 3 years and fifteen million.

And big crowds.

Marlins Discussing Multi-Year Deal w/Ricky Nolasco

Matt Sosnick, the agent for Ricky Nolasco, said he is "optimistic" that he and the Marlins will work out a multi-year deal for the right-hander.

"I would say certainly nothing's going to happen soon," Sosnick advised. "But I would be surprised if something didn't end up happening. We have had some conversations and I think we've made some progress."

The Marlins are believed to be discussing a 3-year contract for Nolasco, which would buy out one year of free agency.

Perhaps most telling of all is that Sosnick said he is more confident that a deal will get done with Nolasco than he was at this same point a year ago when he was handling the negotiations for Josh Johnson. Those discussions ended up stalling over demands for a fourth year which, ultimately, the Marlins ended up granting to their ace.

Johnson, by the way, finished fifth in voting for the National League Cy Young Award, which was announced on Tuesday. Philadelphia's Roy Halladay was the unanimous winner, receiving all 32 first-place votes. The Cardinals' Adam Wainwright was second, followed by Colorado's Ubaldo Jimenez, Atlanta's Tim Hudson and Johnson.

Johnson received five third-place votes, five fourth-place votes and nine fifth-place votes in voting by members of the Baseball Writers' Association of America.
