Why not Meyer??? Because people on here don't seem to understand that Miller wasn't brought up to pitch the 7th/be a lefty specialist. They brought him up to be the long reliever, I'm sure. This allows Badenhop to pitch some more crucial innings down the stretch, which is nice considering the way he's been pitching of late. Miller will likely be used in meaningless situations. If Loria cares about his product as much as he says he does, he isn't going to let this team sh*t on itself once we're in the new stadium. I hope so, and we do have to hope & have faith. Let me put it this way. I'd rather be the "B" in the Human Centipede than have to sit through an inning of Andrew Miller in the majors this year. I don't even know how many times it needs to be said. Andrew Miller has done absolutely nothing to earn a promotion this year. He's actually done everything he possibly could to earn a demotion to single A. Coudl this be because of a clause in his contract that calls for a late season call up ? I am just guessing with this one......

The chances of all 5 teams in any division being competitors are very slim. At the very least, I don't think we'll have one super dreadful team the 4 other teams in the division can gulp up anymore. I definitely find the Mets rather incompetent. But like it's already pointed out, they can completely turn around in a drop of a hat with the money they have. The Phillies have also put themselves in a similar situation, money wise at least. Their recent postseason success put a ton of money in their pockets, and they're much more competent in the FO then the Mets. The Braves... I don't know how I feel just yet. Gotta see how their team plays again next year, they're so good this year. The Nats got a lot of holes to fill but they're heading in a good direction Then by process of your theory its either going to be the Braves, Mets or us that are the stinkeroos for the coming period. As long as Minya stays the Mets GM we shouldn't have to worry about them to much. Lets hope he doesn't have his light come on, and then we are screwed.

And I think the Mets farm system is relatively weak right now too Thank God for that then, maybe it will be a while til they can put it together. You'd never know that from the way the media portrays them. Every year they expect them automatically to contend in the NL East.

Don't the Mets have Oliver Perez signed to some crazy contract? They probably won't be a threat in the near future. Yeah but don't they have a revenue that is in the tens of millions from their TV deal ? They can afford a few mistakes and Perez was a huge one :lol

We have very good young players but remember when their contract is up we cannot compete when teams like the yankees, red sox and other teams with money come offering big bucks, we know money talks and bs walks. That's why they will have to buy up extra years before FA for these players. If you are the Yankees you can afford to wait until arbitration years to sign to a long term deal. But the Marlins must trade some minimum wage years for long term deal because they can't afford the larger price it will cost to wait. Chad Tracy is an example of how that can turn out bad for a team and its the double edged sword that buying out years too early can do to ya. Sometimes you get lucky and get the right guy early, and sometimes you make a mistake like the D'Backs did with Tracy.

In the NL i feel the Reds will stay good with all their prospects and my sleeper team by 2012 is the Pirates. Sleeper team? They haven't had a winning season since 1992. I would call that a coma team. But I do admire the braveness of the pick. DO NOT down play the Padres. Pitching, defense, speed, youth, and a decent FO. A bat or two away from dominance. I'm with you on this one Bob, that is the scary team.....the Reds has the looks of being a good team for a while too.

The Mets are a mess Yeah but they have the money that at anytime if they get the right person running them they can turn it around in a season. We have no such luxury. They have had the highest payroll in the NL for quite some time now. How has that worked out for them? As long as they keep this GM they will never become more than a pre season top 3 favorite. Yeah that was the crux of my post, "if they get the right person running them they can turn it around in a season" :thumbup. That prospect is scary, and will make it infinitely harder for us.

You could also look at it that the Phillies are Mets are aging quickly. But yeah, maybe the Nationals are long term threats, but right now all they have a superstar young pitcher and a catcher/outfielder who hasn't played a game of professional ball being hyped as the next Lebron of baseball. Pudge won't be their catcher forever, Willingham's knees probably won't allow him to play in the league much longer, and Adam Dunn will probably leave the Nats soon. I don't know their minor league system, so I can't really make assessments on the team long term, but I will say unlike basketball, baseball isn't won by 2 players. I would worry about the Mets if they actually spent money intelligently, but we all know that's never going to happen. They're getting old and their front office isn't getting any smarter. The Phillies have a lot of good players, but they are also getting a bit older now. Their team isn't quite as old as the Mets, since they have guys like Cole Hamels, Dominic Brown, etc... The Phillies aren't going away anytime soon, but they won't be as dominant as they've been the last few years long term. Sounds good. I was just starting to really worry after watching some of the shows on ESPN this morning. They were talking up that Washington now has two of the biggest phenoms of all time, and that they will soon be up there with Atlanta, the Phillies and the Mets. They acted as if we weren't even a part of the division. That made me get nervous about our future, as these are "supposed" experts and they were seemingly dismissive of the Marlins to the fact that we were not even mentioned. This is nothing new. We always get ignored, and I prefer it for the most part. The next WS title we win will be another "shocker" for espn. Yawn. I love how they always predict the mets to be a powerhouse yet the mets blow for the payroll they have. Money isn't everything in baseball. It sure does help, but there are plenty of teams that prove you can do more with a great front office than you can with a great big bank account. We will be fine. Or lineup will be solid and with more payroll in the new stadium, and heading into it, this team will just get better and better. I am hoping that we become the next Minnesota Twins. If we can duplicate their success and get lucky one year and win a WS title, it will be all I expect as a fan.

to me, we have arguably the youngest and deepest lineup in the league with one of the best pitchers in the league as well. we are a solid bench and a good bullpen away from being a contender. we need a proven closer though. Thats the present, I am just looking at the long range. If we don't sign some FA's and rely only on the draft, as we have been doing, it could be very scary. The front office has to hit on these draft picks 100% or we will be in deep doo-doo in no time. We have more young talent than anyone in the division, including the Nationals. Let's say best case scenario for them, Strasburg = JJ and Harper = Stanton. We have a lot more than them. Realistically, we can run out this until 2014 and be fine 1B: Gaby 2B: Uggla SS: Hanley 3B: Coghlan or Dominguez LF: Morrison CF: Maybin RF: Stanton You're looking at, pessimistically, a below average 3B (if Coghlan's glove or Dominguez's bat are worst case scenario) and below average CF (If Maybin simply never hits). Other than that you're average at LF and 1B and you've got top 5-10 positional production from SS, 2B, and RF. Maybe the rotation isn't quite so studly, but I'm not worried about the lineup. And there's high potential arms in James, Hand, West, and back rotation guys like Volstad and Sanabia, plus the stud that is JJ. And a ton of high potential BP arms, including two potential future closers in Ceda and Marinez. Thanks Bobbob looking at it that way does make me feel better. I just don't have time to keep up with all those minor league players we have. I have to rely on guys like you that know more than I do. Tankersley : Another 1st round draftee mistake same with brett sinkbeil, ryan tucker?, and it still remains to be seen with dominguez and skipworth though i dont have my hopes up. and hasnt anyone noticed how utterly f***ing terrible volstad is in the 6th inning of starts? even on a night like tonight when he was cruising. it seems to happen every damn start. barring a 10 game win streak starting tomorrow, we better start planning about how were going to gear up for next year. we have the pieces and now we need to spend some f***ing money and get a bullpen as well. i think tank, wes, and sadly maybe cody have worn out their welcomes.
