City Parking Garage will have 2,500 spots. Count in those used in other locations around the OB and those that may be built off site by private or public projects and you have your solution.

why would people want the hassle of having people park on their lawns every nite! thats what i dont think people get. thats 50% of the parking in that area! please please come on where are the realist. it might be the only option but it sucks!

596355

you my friend are an ignorant idiot. not a realist. :plain

596361

no your an idiot for believing a plan that hasn't even been announced or even discussed in the public forum will ever materialize. If this deal was for sure wouldnt manegement be out SCREAMING "WE DID IT come on marlins fans we got a plan in place buy your season tickets." no your an idiot thats got his head in the clouds. THE OB SITE SUCKS! listen to me even the team fought it they didnt want it the fans hate the idea. the only people who claim to like are the people on this board. normal human beings would not say that having a MLB stadium sharing a common wall with a delapidated college stadium is a good idea. The site is god awful, the plan will not materialize they are short money and you keep point out cities like Denver and Arizona these cities arnt in the financial crisis miami and florida overall are in. Ive seen the plan for the garage and stadium, it will take the team and city over budget which every finacial analyst they have approached has says is guaranteed. this will cost more than 500 mil! where is the differnce gonna go??? the city wont take it! and loria will go broke if her tries.

596366

It was Denver and San Diego. Arizona is a state. This ballpark is not going to be sharing a wall with the Orange Bowl, that was like 2 plans ago. Miami and Dade County are going into this with very low risk compared to the arenas and Orange Bowl renovation because they will be getting a 42 year lease and other benefits from the team's prosperity due to this project.

If it were up to you to decide if the world was flat back in the 1500's, America would have never been discovered.

596369

:lol :lol :lol :lol

The city wants this to happen because if not, the Orange Bowl renovation cannot happen. The garage being built, along with the ballpark will allow them to get the additional value in equity to renovate the old stadium and make it what it should be.

no wonder you support bush. nothing but stupid assinine comments. the site is just that bad. the fan base wont support it and you know what the stadium will not suceed in sucha horrendeous spot. thats all there is to it. if i thought i might be wrong id be like ok well maybe your right, problem is im sure i have no doubts that this idea will fizzle out, and it sucks man. i hate the fact that the team is financially crippled.

 • Author

Another fact for you "realists": Dade County has a larger budget than the state of Delaware. That means larger than Maricopa County in Arizona where Bank One Ballpark was built, larger than King County in Washington where Safeco Field was built, and much larger than Hamilton County in Ohio where Great American Ballpark was built. All these 3 counties found it possible to build at least a new ballpark on very tight budget issues and that is the product you see on TV when Arizona, Seattle, or Cinci play.

How is it an assinine comment? Either it gets done or the City cannot use the equity gained to borrow money to renovate the Orange Bowl. The ballpark and garage will increase the value of the property and income derived from the property which will make it much easier to raise bond issues to renovate the Orange Bowl.

The Marlins main goal in this ballpark is to sell luxury boxes. I believe there will be 62 of them. That is the major moneymaker and what they don't get right now at PPS that is crippling this team.

but these cities dont have the bad exp. that miami had with the miami arena, the metro rail, and countless other ventures gone arye

Why is everyone so set on getting rid of Pavano? I don't get it. You haven't seen what he's asking for. You bow to Pavano and then suddenly because his price is going up after finally getting to where he wants in his life you want to drop him so quickly it's pathetic. I suppose if he stays and takes less money you will not be happy and still wanting to get rid of him? Why don't you wait and see what happens and when Carl ask for 11 Million then say that's it we can't keep him. None of us know exactly what he will do but if he has people who don't care already saying he's gone what's the point? I don't get it. :o

there is no way this plan could go wrong for the city because LORIA WILL BE PAYING FOR ANYTHING THAT GOES OVERBUDGET.

Ummm....once again, those are counties. Maricopa had a mini-disaster with the renovation of the America West Arena a couple of years ago along with several major highway projects. King County had a fiasco with the KingDome and the current battle over who should pay the overruns at Safeco (something that would not happen here as all responsibilities are already carved out). Big Hugg can comment about the Browns, Paul Brown Stadium, and the Hamilton County Commission fiasco over the lawsuit about lease money.

I would love him to stat, but if his price gets too high...may be time to shop elsewhere. I was the biggest defender of him, I still am, but his price must be right.

exactly, lets say it goes over budget 100 mil, which is low number, but w/e for the sake of argument. Can loria afford that?

He can sell the team or get the money loaned to him. If he sells, the team will be worth much more than he paid and the city and county shall get a cut of the profit. $100 million is a huge number though, Seattle had that because of codes issues mainly with the roof and having to get things fixed as construction continued.

They can get it done for the price tag, remember that most of the land is already city or county owned and that the rest won't be as expensive to acquire as in other areas of the country or even the city.

Remember that Loria is putting $20 million up front in equity...that is a huge sign to the City and County of whether he can do this or not.

the problem i have with that number is that things change when it comes down to getting things done. Loria gives me the impression that he cant do this venture. We'll see, i said it from the beginning, I hate the site, love the marlins, want this to work out, but fear it wont

Loria is being asked to put 5.4% down on this ballpark project's total cost. He is being asked to put in 12.7% of his portion up front.

Imagine you are buying/building a $200,000 house and someone asks you to put almost $25,478 down in either equity (as in land that house is to be built on) or cash (likely easier for most consumers)....isn't that a large amount to guarantee you are going to get this done?

The best part about this site is that it has such great potential for development into a Orange Bowl/ballpark village like San Diego's Ballpark Village. The site has support from neighbors who are used to it. Another problem is other sites have neighbors who don't want it in their backyard...people here do because they profit from it.

yes and no. in the context u put it in of course. but in the actual situation he is in not really. whats to stop him from: when the city says ok we'll give this much. turning around and saying well i cant find the other 10% give it to me or no deal. than its to late to go back to the legislature and they city would end up having wasted all this time.

They have 30 years in which to pay this! If it gets that desperate, they could always raise the ticket tax...but the state has to be tried. Let them say No firmly before you start thinking other options. It didn't get done last year because they were up there with less than 2 weeks before the session closed the business and the deadline for new legislation had passed. Now they are going up there fresh, the legislators have open and fresh minds and everyone is looking to conduct business. think of it like school right before Summer vacations, no one wants to take finals but must. Teachers cannot teach anything new because the students must take the exams to pass or fail the class. The city and county are also making the team sign a bunch of waivers and releases in all those clauses including the cut they get if he sells, non-relocation clause, and the exclusive negotiation clause.

Most (not all) of them live in public housing or housing that they do not own but instead rent or lease. you will have neighborhood resistance, but it really isn't as bad at this site compared to other potential sites.
