July 5, 200323 yr *Braves promoted RHP Chuck Smith from Double-A Greenville to Triple-A Richmond. Smith, who pitched in the majors with the Marlins in 2000 and 2001, is making his way back from Tommy John surgery. He had a 3.38 ERA in three starts for Greenville. Source: Richmond Times-Dispatch -I'm happy for Chuck! He was a consistent SP for the time we had him. * Tim Spooneybarger's elbow injury still has yet to be diagnosed. An MRI came back negative, and Spooneybarger has visited Dr. James Andrews twice. But nobody knows when he will return. Manager Jack McKeon, sounding skeptical, said: ''You'll have to ask him. He's the one that says, 'This tingles and that tingles.' The MRI came out and said he was great.'' Earlier, Spooneybarger blamed his injury on overuse by McKeon and former manager Jeff Torborg. While he's out, the Marlins have searched for a setup man, being unsuccessful with Vladimir Nunez, Blaine Neal, and Allen Levrault. Nate Bump could get the next shot. Source: Miami Herald -I'm disappointed Spooney would speak out publicly blaming Jack, but I guess we know why ATL didn't like him. *Any news on Josh Willingham Ed? He was TEARING AA apart! was hitting .500 with 3 homers in 20 AB's. *Abe Nunez hit his 2nd HR since coming back (32AB's) *Does anyone believe that Dunn is untouchable like GM for the Reds Bowden said? The players are starting to get angry over playing time and Boone HAS to play Guillen because he is Red hot. So Dunn is riding the bench and getting angry in the process. I would love to have Dunn...maybe a deal can be made.
July 5, 200323 yr I remeber chuck henused to have a nasty Change up!I wish him good luck and i hope he pitches well Spooney has been overuse, thats for sure and he is eager to come out and pitch. We really need a set up guy and Bump wouldbe good if he pitches well. Lets see what happens with spooney next....
July 5, 200323 yr Author Florida is 25-14 since May 23, the best record in the NL East during that span.
July 5, 200323 yr Willingham had a torn meniscus in his knee and had arthroscopic surgery a couple of weeks ago. I saw him at a Jupiter Kammerhead game a couple of days ago (where he is rehabbing) and he said he is way a head of schedule and will start running next week.
