Let's remember that Bush won the South, Midwest, Rocky Mountain Region and the Southwest, so don't blame the South! (that is NOT an uneducated decision, either) I vote mostly on social issues, on which I'm very far right. On economic issues, I'm pretty middle of the road. You have a point, but if I were liberal on economic issues, I'd vote Democrat. But I'm not. So social issues thus becomes my tiebreaker.
November 10, 200421 yr Just the northeast? I seem to recall democrats dominating that awfully large state called California out west. Id take California over any other Southern state. Plus we also have the other two west coast states and Chicago. Somehow we also won New Hampshire despite it being a strong Republican state. Plus Michigan, cant forget Michigan. Democrats might not need the south if they can turn the rest of the west around. The thinking is Nevada and Colorado could eventually become blue states. And as far as New England jobs going to the south, I look at a state like Virginia that has increasingly become less conservative(sure CF will dispute this). But as the NE liberal jobs increase the Northern Virginia population, the more democratic the state becomes. That region is hands down a democratic stronghold and is growing ever rapidly.
November 10, 200421 yr F_M, I look at cities like Charlotte, Nashville, and Atlanta...where northerners (not just NE, but midwest too) are flocking to...Charlotte has become the banking capital of the U.S., and Atlanta is the NYC of the South. These places are booming with "Yankee" migration, and I don't even need to mention Florida. It would seem that northerners are coming down South more than Southerners are moving north. I have no facts to base this, just observations.
