Cox, Showalter win Manager of Year awards

 

NEW YORK -- Bobby Cox was voted NL Manager of the Year on Wednesday for leading the rebuilt Atlanta Braves to a record 13th straight division title, and Buck Showalter won the AL honor after his Texas Rangers went from also-ran to contender.

 

Cox received 22 first-place votes and 10 seconds for 140 points to win easily. Tony La Russa of St. Louis, who has won four manager of the year awards, was second with 62 points, and Jim Tracy of Los Angeles was third with 52.

 

La Russa's Cardinals were a major league-best 105-57.

 

"I thought Tony deserved it, to be honest," Cox said. "I would be more than happy to split that trophy and have both our names on it."

LaRussa should have gotten more votes. No one picked the Cardinals for the playoffs and he led them to 100 wins with a medicore pitching staff. A few did have the Braves winning the East.

Cox...i dont know how this man does it....

To Bad he doesnt know how to get his teams to win the Big games...

I have nothing wrong with this award.. Here's how I break the Cards down..

 

- They were suppose to be in the mid pack of the NL Central (3rd, 4th)

- They didnt have any pitching

- The bullpen was questionable

- Lineup was never a question but LF was with Lankford, Taguchi, Robinson.

- Defense was never in question either

 

What they did to prove some people wrong:

- Won NL Central by a killer 13 games

- Won NL Pennant for 1st time since I was 2 in '87

- Won 105 games in Season; 2nd most in Cardinals history.

- 4 SP with 15 wins at least (Carpenter, Suppan, Marquis, Morris), 1 SP with at least 10 wins (Williams)

- 3 MVP Candidates (Pujols, Rolen, Edmonds)

- Great Bullpen this year; 7 pitchers with ERA's under 3.00 (Reyes, Kline, King, Flores, Tavarez, Calero, Izzy)

- One of the Best Years in Cardinals history despite not bringing him the World Series title.

 

And you can tell me right now nobody including myself expected these things to happen (Well except the MVP stuff).. I'm sure you can make just as many point for Bobby but oh well. Oh yeah, the Cards also had a tougher division with the Cubs and Astros.. Nothing against anyone here but was the NL East really all that tough? Didnt think so.

 

Truthfully I think I would have gone with a Tie with Cox and TLR..
