Colin Powell Resigns

Featured Replies

Let the Powell 08 presidential inquiries began. I hope Powell ends up the next Eisenhower(bipartisan general who took a side to run after an incumbent who barely won reelection). Powell is neither a dem nor a rep and only took the sec of state position for the Bush family. But he could make a run in 08. Im sure some dems will go after him and they might have an opening as he despises the neocons in the administration. He also didnt take well to Bush writing an amicus brief against his brief for the Michigan affirmitive action cases.

There is no way he gets the Rep nomination. Too many moderate and democratic stances on too many issues. The dems will run either Powell or Wes Clark in 08 in national security is still an issue, and I think it will be. What better way to show you can handle it than saying Im a general.

I don't know about all that Democrat nomination stuff.

This wasn't a surprise to me, there had been a lot of rumors that he would resign if Bush was re-elected. Here's hoping that Rumsfeld follows him out the door.

Powell would not run for the Dems in '08.

Stick to your Hillary plan.

The only people with a Hillary plan have been Republicans. But when your only addition to a topic is a silly one liner, its hard to understand that.

Edited, answer my question.

Who is your candidate then? Kerry again? Dean? O'Bama? Richardson? Clarke? Gephardt?

Three guys Id like to see:

Mark Warner, Phil Bredesen, and Wes Clarke(if he can hone his political skills).

But its still way too early to figure this out. Like I said, only the talking head idiots are saying Hillary in 08. A lot of dems dont want her to run, including me. Obama is too inexperienced, Dean I dont like, never have, Kerry wont get it again. Richardson Im not big on either.

i think its a tad premature to be narrowing down on candidates for 2008 at this point.

Dean would make a great choice IMO....some in the party dont like him...but he has brought energy to the party....but I dont see him gaining any nomination...if he was ever going to do it..it would of been this year.

Kerry is done as far as presidential politics are concerned.

Obama...maybe 2012..maybe later.

Richardson I dont like...Graham I dont like.

I actually have no clue on who would make a great choice...havent even thought about it yet.

If Powell does jump ship...he would make an excellent one to choose between.

Not big on Wes Clarke..but that might be due to his lack of political experience in getting his views out to the people.

The guy I still think is the absolute future of the Democratic party in some leadership position is Harold Ford Jr. Him and Obama could really lead the new future wave of the party.

Gen. Clarke was late to the arena and you are right he was very inexperienced and couldn't get his ideas across, but he has grown a lot during this campaign and he was the only one of the "surrogates" that would get respected and listened to when interviewed besides Republicans.

My opinion on him is more emotional than rational, for some reason I think he is the sweetest, most genuine man ever to run for President.

That's a huge shame.

I really like Colin Powell. I've never heard him imply he was looking to run for president (as a matter of fact, I think I've read somewhere that he was not interested in it), but if he was a candidate, I'd vote for him in a flash.

Likewise with Obama.

Neither Hillary nor Dean have any chance, although I don't mind either of them.

Kerry, thankfully, is done with presidential politics. I'd vote Republican before voting Kerry.

He may be a nice guy, but he's sunk before he starts - unless he throws the gay agenda he was cozy with during the 04' primary overboard. He's further to the left than Kerry was on this. The 04' results should be ample evidence the rest of the country isn't going to swallow it.

What "gay agenda" would that be? Not like I take anything you say without a grain of salt. :whistle

Well I just read about it all on Clark's campaign web site, so maybe its not credible....

There's clickable link on the main page labeled "GLBT". Why don't you let your fingers do the walking and learn about this guy before backing another loser?

Hint: he says he "embraced" the MA court decision. My take, after 04' is a statement like that will come back to haunt you.

615217[/snapback]

No, why don't you tell me exactly what is that "gay agenda" you are talking about and back up your wild claims with some substance, that is if you are capable of using facts.

Why would Colin run in 08 when he could have won in 96 and passed it up?

IT'S CONDI TIME!!!!!!!!! :notworthy

Do you even know anything about the secretary of state? Arent you 17? Is this like "who will be the next manager of the Marlins" to you?

Running against a popular incumbent vs. running against a clean slate, not even a VP to go against? Little difference?

Plus 12 years can change a man's mind.

Still to early though.

I really don't see Powell running as a democrat. Doing so would be admitting his party is out of touch with his values & politics, and he's not going to do that. He's a loyal soldier above all else IMO.

I doubt you'll see him bashing the administration after leaving either. No Richard Clark books on the way from Colin. Even if he thinks it.

Too bad the good ol' boys would crap themselves and not vote for her.

Fox News: "National Security advisor Condoleeza Rice is expected to be named

Secretary of State today."

Of course, it must be false since it comes from Fox News. :mischief
