1993 Marlins team signed baseball

Featured Replies

Check out what I just won on ebay, a 1993 Marlins team signed baseball by every member of the inaugural squad. It's signed by Trevor Hoffman, Niner, Carr, Lachemann, Renteria, Hough, Harvey, and a bunch of others from the inaugural season. I got a great deal on it too.

When I receive it, i'm sending it right back out to PSA/DNA to get it authenticated and then i'm sticking it in my display case, i've already got a spot cleared for it :D .

I have a question. I have a Preston Wilson signed baseball. How do you keep the ink from fading and absorbing into the areas around the ink the baseball? Is there a liquid I need to buy.

Do you get a refund if it doesnt past the PSA/DNA?

Only $63 thanks to my auction sniper program which automatically places a bid when there is only 5 seconds left so I get the cheapest price possible :D .

What kind of pen was it signed with, because that's not normal unless you exposed it to constant sunlight or had it signed with a felt tip pen or cheap ink or something. Also that can happen if the auto is on one of those junky 2 dollar pleather Franklin baseballs and not an actual official leather major league baseball. There is no sort of liquid you can buy to stop this or prevent it, all you can do is make sure the ball is not exposed to direct sunlight and if it's a really important ball make sure it's in a display case with UV glass. All of my auto'd balls are in a case with UV proof glass and the oldest ball in my collection is a 20 year old Joe DiMaggio autographed ball and it's still in perfect condition, not the slightest bit of fading because of how well it's been taken care of over the years.

You've gotta pay, but there are ways of getting around it so you can use it for free :) .

Go to www.auctionsniper.com and sign up, you get like 3 free snipes or something and then you've got to pay each time you want to use it after that, but if you refer someone to sign up you get 2 free snipes... so just do a bunch of referrals to yourself and you'll have an endless amount of free snipes.

What do you mean? Does ball-point ink hold better on real leather than on synthetic skin?

Yes, blue Bic ballpoint pens are pretty much the industry standard used to sign baseballs. If you buy a ball from a reputable company or go to a professional signing, they'll always be using blue Bic ballpoint pends.

That's good to know. But I was actually more interested about the material on the ball. I ask because I have a Marlins "Foto Ball" with Miguel Cabrera's signature and it was signed with a ball-point, but I noticed that it's started to fade/smudge. I suspect, if what you say is true, that this ball is not real leather. I only wish I'd known sooner that it made a difference; I would've gotten a real ball instead. :confused

Cool!

I have a 93' autographed ball like that... My dad won it for me in a silent auction in 93'. I am not sure how much he paid though. The ball is somewhere in the attic with all my other older Marlins Stuff :lol

I hate people like you....

Just kidding :whistle

Every year I have to restock my OMLBs (Official Major League Baseballs) ... have to look around to find good deals, becomes very difficult, since each one is $10 (in cardboard box) and $15 (in cube).... I like to start Spring Training with close to 2 dozen.

The fotoball's are made out of like cheap plastic nylon pleather type stuff, it doesn't really "absorb" the ink like official leather MLB balls do which is why signatures easily fade and get smudged regardless of the pen you use.

Don't feel bad, I learned this the hard way too, lol. Last season like 2 weeks after D-Train got called up from AA, there was an autograph signing outside of gate H with Dontrelle and Ramon Castro, I didn't have a ball on me so I ran and bought a Marlins 10th anniversary cheapo chinese made ball in one of the seatrader gift shops and had them sign it, the signatures look awful now and are faded.

You can usually buy them in bulk for cheap on ebay.

I was a normal ebayer until I noticed a trend of me losing numerous auctions with literally only 1 second left, so I decided to fight fire with fire :D . I probably would have paid well over 150-200+ for this ball if I just bid normally rather than sniped it.

I do buy the balls by the dozen .... I also learned my lesson 2 years ago when I went to Yankees Spring Training in Tampa.... I had the cheap $2.99 Rawlings baseballs and had gotten Torre, Posada, Guidry, Nick Johnson on those.... now they are faded, the color changed to a bright blue, and purple outline.... sucks but atleast from now on, you can prevent that with the correct ball and pen.

haha, there was some guy on ebay selling a Tony Gwynn auto'd ball, the ball was a "special edition" commemorating his 3000th hit so it wasn't a regular OMLB. It was the nastiest faded signature i've ever seen.
