Portis getting benched?

Featured Replies

For what it's worth, every time I see Champ Bailey he's getting burned for 50 yards. Chad Johnson got him twice in that Monday night game, and Jerry Porter got him twice last Sunday night.

Champ Bailey, much like AFC West compatriate Charles Woodson, is absurdly overrated.

Agreed on Champ being overrated. We have Sean Springs and Fred Smoot.. giving up Champ for a play making running back is a good move.

(Redskins defense still ranked 2nd I believe)

As far as Portis being benched... there's no reason to do that. No RB is producing or has really produced for the Skins since we let go of Stephen Davis (so yes, it IS Spurrier's fault).

There was speculation that Denver's O-line is what kept cranking out consistent huge seasons for it's RB's. Maybe that is correct.

I wouldnt spend a dime on a running back coming from Shannahan's system. He makes them all better with his zone blocking.

I still think Portis is a stud back. His yards per carry with Denver were at least a yard or so greater than any other back during or after his rein. He hasn't been great this year, but I think it's as much the complete lack of a passing threat as it is the offensive line or anything else.

Few backs can do jack if defenses don't have to worry about the pass.

Exactly, any opposing defense knows Washington can't and won't call long pass plays, so they cheat up.

well put.

for once, washington's woes have nothing to do with a guy named clinton.

Also, the 1st string LT was injured in the first pre-season game of the year so they've been kinda screwed there. Especially since he was their best lineman.

That's a problem too, but not quite the detriment of a few other things.

God it's tough being a skins fan.

Gibbs, like the other old coaches, is such a hard-headed idiot.

I don't think he's quite at Parcells' level.

He was pretty dang good today.

31 totes for 148 yards and a TD I think.
