Stadium

I agree, these two areas would allow you to get redevelopment tax breaks and allow you to get tax money for the ballpark.

That plays a big role in our decision, but so does something every realtor knows. LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION.

Tropical Park is too far south, the road system (Palmetto, Bird, and Miller) are clogged enough as it is.

i know. it is not really an option, i was kidding when i said that. tamiami is a much better option than tropical, but it is still too far south.

I was proposing it as a joke but it seems that I've gotten some steam. And why is it too far? The Marlins went to Southwest High School at the beginning of the year to promote the team, and Southwest is like 5 seconds away from Tropical.

The stadium can't be so south that it would only benefit dade... it has to be in the middle... and that's Broward.

where it is right now is actually in the middle.

Tamiami is best left alone, because I used to live in Westchester and the neighbors hated the fair's noise (one to two weeks a year), imagine having 82 games a year. Too many drunk drivers hitting the cars into the walls and getting into the properties.

We realize that we also have a large fan base north to Palm Beach, and we want to do something about it. Our first choice is Ft. Lauderdale, but we have to keep in mind every intangible.

If the Marlins look at thier home market, it is Martin, Palm Beach, Broward, and Dade (from north to south). Broward County, around the Airport, would be the center of the area.

well said...

I live in Lee County (Ft. Myers) if I take I-75 straight down to I-595, I can get to Downtown Ft. Lauderdale quicker than Pro Player. People in Lee (Ft. Myers) and Collier (Naples) go to the PAnther's games because it is simple to get to.

Downtown Ft. Lauderdale is the best site for me personally.

The reason the home market is that big is because the stadium is impossible to get to for the old cubans and puerto ricans in Miami (I would know, I'm cuban, before you come up and try to bash this down). If the stadium was closer to us, then the viejos would be there everyday. Heck, put it in Hialeah! It'll take me personally longer to get there but I guarantee you you'll lose most or all of Dade if you put the stadium in Broward. The Marlins are Miami's team just called Florida. I didn't see many people partying in the streets outside of Miami when the Marlins took the Series.

it would be good for me too... Travel south on US 27 till I-75. (Plus I won't have to pay the tolls) :D

Panthers have the same or less attendance than the Marlins. Great arguement there!

Cuando los viejos se mueren, who is going to replace them? We need to put it in an area that is centrific for future growth (Martin, Palm Beach are growing as fast as Broward did in the early 90's). Downtown Ft. Lauderdale is the centrific area for that.

it's not very difficult to get to where the stadium is now. why are those people not going?

it is a lot easier to travel south than it is to travel north in the evenning.

Panthers have the same or less attendance than the Marlins. Great arguement there! Not true, the Panthers average 16,000 (capacity is 23,000) a game, while the Marlins average 13,000 (capacity is 36,000) a game. The prices of parking and food would be lower in Ft. Lauderdale. The area is used to the Air and Sea show and has lots of parking and local restaurants.

Um, every cuban loves baseball. Everybody from the three islands do (Cuba, Puerto Rico, and the Dominian Republic, and yes im fully aware they share an island with Haiti). And people get older, do they not? There is an endless supply of baseball fans in Miami, not in Ft Lauderdale. Thinking for the future? Thats the kind of thinking we have been trying to avoid on the field for 5 years.

I'd travel only on day games... travelling around US 27 can be dangerous at night.

Once again, we want to place it in Ft. Lauderdale, but there may be things preventing that from happening.

We will not know for a while where it will be, or when it will be announced.

No wonder the fish get such great attendance...
